COURSE CODE: GE 8
DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: Art Appreciation
PREREQUISITE(S): None
CREDIT UNITS: 3

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course aims to provide understanding of the arts and its implications on men through learning
the value of men, his feelings and his ultimate medium of expression. The course examines the
study of humanities by drawing from historical perspectives, its development across time and
analyzing different mediums and techniques of expression. Students shall grasp the relevance of
the arts in sociological context and the ability to put in application the values inculcated therein.

COURSE OUTCOMES: After successful completion of the course, pre-service teachers are expected to:
1. develop an understanding and appreciation of arts in general alongside its functions, value
and societal significance;
2. utilize art for self-expression and promoting advocacies;
3. discover one’s identity through art with respect to one’s nationality, culture and religion; and
4. deepen sensitivity to self, community and society.
