Magic Tee As An Isolator

This document outlines an experiment to study the application of a magic tee as an isolator. The experiment aims to understand isolators, the construction and S-parameters of magic tees, and how magic tees can be used as isolators. It describes the experimental setup, which includes a klystron power supply, klystron tube, magic tee, and other microwave components. Measurements were taken with the magic tee to calculate the isolation coefficient and demonstrate that it was below -15dB, showing the magic tee was successfully functioning as an isolator. The conclusions state that magic tees can be used as isolators and describe the key aspects of how an E-H plane junction magic tee works.

Observation Table:
Incident voltage at H-Arm = 1V = Vin
Voltage across output at E-arm when Port-1and Port-2 are terminated with perfect match=2mV

=Vout
Isolation Coefficient(dB)= 20 log (Vout/Vin) = -53.9794 dB < -15 dB

Result:
Isolation Coefficient (dB)= -53.9794 dB

Conclusions:
 In this experiment, applications of Magic tee as an isolator were studied. The junction
where all the four ports are perfectly matched is called as Magic Tee Junction.
 An E-H Plane Tee junction is formed by attaching two simple waveguides
one parallel and the other series, to a rectangular waveguide which already
has two ports. This is also called as Magic Tee, or Hybrid or 3dB coupler.
 E-H Plane junction is used to measure the impedance − A null detector is connected to E-
Arm port while the Microwave source is connected to H-Arm port. The collinear ports
together with these ports make a bridge and the impedance measurement is done by
