Albanian is a unique Indo-European language spoken by Albanians in the Balkans and in the Albanian diaspora around the world. With around 7.5 million speakers, Albanian has no close relation to other languages. The first known document in Albanian was recorded in 1462. There are large Albanian communities in countries like the United States, Italy, and Germany due to immigration and diaspora. Albanian consists of two main dialects, Gheg and Tosk, which are mutually intelligible.
