How will you modify the instructions for Clara to keep her focus on classroom activities? Write your reflections
in this form. Mention in your reflections a specific learning disability that you are familiar with or have
researched on.

Clara is a challenge to every teacher. The teacher should have more patience for having a student like Clara.
Clara is a mission to every teacher but how a teacher like me will help Clara for her to understand, focused in
class and how Clara will love learning.
As a Grade 4 teacher, I will be going to have a research first about what her parents told me about her
learning disability. Let say, Clara has Dyslexia according to (https://www.bps.org.uk/lists/DIR) Dyslexia is a
common learning difficulty that mainly causes problems with reading, writing and spelling. It's a specific learning
difficulty, which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing.
Unlike a learning disability, intelligence isn't affected.
I am going to have a research about Dyslexia for me to understand Clara and what are the strategies that I
am going to use to help Clara. It says that intelligence won’t affect to a child who has dyslexia. I will apply the
theory of Gardner the Multiple Intelligence. In my English Subject I will use differentiated approach, I will group
my students according to their intelligence, if Clara has visual intelligence I will ask her to go to the group who
love to draw. Through this approach I will get the attention of Clara, and Clara will start to have an interest in
topic. I will build a supportive and collaborative classroom culture. I will also create an amiable environment. I will
also use encouragement words for her to have a self-confidence.
I will also have a plan to have a remediation for Clara. I will ask the help of parents. I will explain to her
parents what I am going to do to help their child. I will use different strategies like finding decodable books.
Reading material that is full of familiar single and closed syllable words will make decoding easier.

disabilities, such positive reinforcement can help ensure that they emerge with a strong sense of self-worth,
confidence and the determination to keep going even when things are tough”
In my six years’ experience in teaching, I encountered different students like Clara. A students who are
having hard time in learning. These students give me a reason to wake up every day. They are my purpose. They
are the true meaning of learning, without them being a teacher is futile.
