Lesson Plan Project
Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)
Students will be able to add numbers from zero-four correctly.
Students will be able to use their motor skills when cutting and gluing paper.
Students will be able to understand what these equations are and how to read them correctly.
Students will be able to comprehend the process of adding numbers together and finding the
matching/correct sum.
Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)
The students will be able to cut out the numbers from the worksheet.
The students will also be able to glue these pieces of paper onto the correct spot on the
paper.
The students will be able to add two numbers together correctly.
The students will also be able to solve the equations for the sum and find the matching/correct
sum on the paper/worksheet.
Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)
The students will get their worksheet and write their name first. Then they will find the
equations in the equation bank at the bottom of the paper. They will solve them one at a time
and then they will look for the correct/matching sum on the top of the paper. Then they will
cut out the solved equation and glue it onto the correct/matching sum. They will then repeat
this process for the rest of the equations on the worksheet/paper.
CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the
teaching of this lesson plan.)
Kindergarten students should see addition and subtraction equations, and student writing of
equations in kindergarten is encouraged, but it is not required. Operations and Algebraic
Thinking. Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction
as taking apart and taking from.
Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking
apart and taking
from.
1. Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings,2
sounds (e.g., claps), acting out
situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
2. Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by
using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
3. Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by
using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 =
2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
4. For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given
number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation.
5. Fluently add and subtract within 5.
Instructional Procedures
● Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)
I will use the chime my mentor teacher has as well as her rainstick which is quick and
very effective in garnering their utmost attention.
● Instructional Strategies (Describe all instructional methods you will employ during the lesson.)
I will use direct instruction by showing them what I want them to be able to do on the
assignment. I will also be telling them what to do verbally as I am demonstrating what
to do.
● Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)
I will ring their bell to bring their attention back if they start to lose it and begin focusing
on something else that they are not supposed to be focusing on.
● Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?
I will be able to check that all of the students are engaged and involved in the lesson
by asking them questions and making them repeat after me.
● Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)
I will go back over the assignment with them to make sure that they really understood
what they were doing and make sure that they understand the concepts that I am
trying to get across to them.
● Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)
I will go by after they have all completed the assignment/finished up and I will go by
and put a star on their paper/worksheet if it has all been done correctly and have them
put it away into their mailbox.
