INSTALLATION OF FLARED FITTINGS

When installing flare fittings, make sure the male threads are properly lubricated. Torque the fittings in accordance with Chart 4. Do not

SEALING
Because the Super King Air 300 is a pressurized airplane, sealing the skin and bulkhead seams, the windows, doors, etc. is of prime
importance. Control cables and torque shafts have removable rubber seals. When making a structural repair or modification which
creates a break in the pressure vessel, the mating surfaces must be sealed with the proper sealer. All other components piercing the
pressure vessel or attached to it must be sealed with the sealers described in Chart 5. To be sure of effective bonding of the sealers,
clean all mating surfaces, mating parts and rubber seals thoroughly.

APPLICATION MATERIAL REMARKS

Removing Old Sealer MIL-M-13999 Methyl Propyl Ketone A-A-59282 Use the Methyl Propyl Ketone to remove
EC750, EC847 and A-400 and toluol to remove
EC776. All other sealers must be scrapped off.
Cleaning Metal Surfaces For Sealing TT-T-548 Toluol MIL-M-13999 Methyl Propyl Naphtha is preferable since it will not damage
Ketone TT-N-95 Naphtha painted surfaces or plastic windows. When
using acetone or methyl propyl ketone,
remember that they will remove paint and
craze acrylic plastic.
Cleaning Cabin Door and Escape Hatch TT-T-548 Toluol MIL-M-13999 Methyl Propyl Clean all surfaces to be bonded and if
Rubber Seal Ketone possible, scuff the surfaces with a wire brush
or sandpaper.
Access Doors Presstite No. 576 Replace sealer as necessary each time
inspection doors are removed.
Escape Hatch Seals EC847 Fit the rubber seal then coat the seal and
allow the adhesive to dry. Reactivate the
adhesive with a cloth dampened in MIL-
M13999 methyl propyl ketone and carefully
position the seal.
Cabin Door Seal Adhesive Dapcotac 3300 Prime metal surfaces with zinc chromate
primer before applying adhesive
Seal Inflation Tube Silastic 140 Roughen surfaces with sandpaper, clean with
methyl propyl ketone.
Windows EC1202 Devcon F Tape width should extend equally on both
sides of the panes. Fill windshield frame gaps
with Devcon F.
Skin Lap Joints *PR-1440B 1/2 or PR-1440B4 EC1792 Use EC-1792 only when an aluminum finish is
required. Form a bead 1/8 to 3/16 inch high.
Structural Fillet Seal *PR-1440B 1/2 or PR-1440B4 Apply a bead at least three times the skin
thickness, packing the sealant into cracks,
crevices and skin laps.
Trim Tab Cable Seals *PR-1440B 1/2 or PR-1440B4 Apply a 1/8 inch fillet of seal and around
rubber seal.
Gaps and Voids MIL-S-8802 Gaps and voids larger than 3/8 inch in two
directions must have a mechanical closure.
Rivets EC776 Brush an area at least double the size of the
rivet head butt, working the sealer with the
brush to assure that the rivet is completely
sealed.
Unused Drill Holes MIL-S-8802 Plug any unused drill holes with rivets or seal
with MIL-S-8802 Sealers.
Plumbing fittings MIL-S-8802 Seal around plumbing fittings with MIL-S-8802
Sealers.

Electrical Fittings MIL-S-8802, EC776 Seal all electrical plugs with MIL-S-8802
Sealers. Seal the mounting screws with
EC776.

Storm Window Hinge and Latch Attaching Elmer's Glue Coat the screw threads with glue and install in
Screws the plastic while the glue is still wet. Wash off
excess glue with naphtha.
Cabin Door Hooks Loctite TL290 Apply after hook adjustment.
* Use PR-1440B 1/2 when assembly time is 30 minutes or less and PR1440B4 when assembly time exceeds 30 minutes.
