INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT UNDERTAKEN
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a non-profit organization, a group or
entrepreneurship of activists in society. They are voluntary individuals who are
social people working for a charitable cause. NGOs work towards uplifting the
backward sections of the community. Moreover, a major function which is
performed by NGOs is bridging the gap between inequalities and unfair treatment.
Additionally, they ardently strive to make the lives of victims of injustice and
poverty better. Additionally, these organizations work to improve the lives of
women, children, and anyone else who is suffering in any way. Furthermore, the
primary goal of these organizations is to create a prosperous society free of
suffering and uncertainties.
The community development programme is a movement designed to promote
better living for the whole community with active participation and the initiative
of the community. It is the biggest rural readjustment scheme which was brought
by the government of India. It is a programme which is designed to bring both
inward and outward prosperity. The importance of community development
programmes is to raise the standard of living in rural areas and developing rural
areas.
The community development programme has the following objectives: -
1. To speed up the quality and quantity of agricultural production.
2.To resolve the issue of unemployment.
3. To advance the system of transportation and communication.
4. To develop the education and public health system.
5. To aid villagers to build their homes at cheap rates.
6. To encourage handicrafts and cottage industries.
The report will conclude after listing some of the recommendations and future
opportunities for the project. Here working on this project, we helped by feeding
the needy. In India, near about 3000 children die due to hunger on a daily basis.
Over 20 crore Indians go to sleep empty-stomach every day. FAO 2019 Report
reveals that around 14.5% of the Indian population falls beneath the underfed
category. In India, around 194 million people withstand the shackles of
undernourishment. In the 2021 Global Hunger Index, India ranks 101st out of the
116 countries with sufficient data to calculate 2021 GHI scores. With a score of
27.5, India has a level of hunger that is serious. Our organization's aim was to feed
the poor people with whatever capability we have.
● OBJECTIVES OF THE WORK UNDERTAKEN
Successful community development work requires skillful facilitation and those
involved need a wide range of knowledge and skills in order to empower
communities to engage in development work. They also need to understand how
to encourage communities to identify their needs and initiate action. In this unit
learners will examine the complex nature of communities and community
development work.
1. To be aware of the people. The main objective of community development is
working to make the people aware of various problems in a community. It helps
them to provide knowledge and to know about the main causes that affect their
social life..
2. All side development. Community programs are interested in all aspects of a
community. Development is necessary in these places as a whole in education,
health, recreation and employment. It seeks opportunities for a better living
standard for the community people. Development is required in all sectors of the
community.
3. To motivate people. Programs are working for the motivation of community
people. Social organizers are employed in various sectors for their arousal and
working for community welfare and betterment of humanity.
4. Provide equality. It gives equality to all people living in a territory. It gives equal
chances and opportunities to bring the resources for their utility. So, it provides
equality in education, health and other facilities provided to them.
5. Help the people to motivate themselves. Such programs are interested in the
people to enable them to help one another and of their own. It makes them stand
on their own feet. They have to use their resources and make their lives
comfortable.
6. Change thinking. One of the objectives of community development programs is
to change the pattern and style of community people. It gives new directions to the
changing lifestyle. It helps to create acquaintances among them, to follow positive
thinking about the people.
7. To bring reforms. Such programs aim to bring social reforms to a community. It
helps them in the eradication of social evils which are the gross roots of bringing
social disorder in the community. So, one of the aims of community development
is to provide them with better opportunities to solve the problematic situation
through reforms.
8. Social Justice. Social justice is another objective of community development. It
provides justice to all types of people. There would be no concept of rich and poor,
but the programs would be for the utilization of all.
9. Solve community problems. Different problems faced by community people
may be solved due to the start of such programs in the affected areas. The
community also gives a hand to the government to help them in development and
growth.
10. To create interest. These programs are working to create interest in community
welfare among the people. It mobilizes the attitude of people to participate in
collective work for community development. The motivation of these people is the
skill of social organizers working in the areas.
● SCOPE OF THE WORK
The idea arose out of a realization that various efforts made by the Government
departments such as Agriculture, Animal husbandry, Cooperation, Health,
Education and others, which were carried on separately, should be coordinated to
make them more effective. Further, according to the sponsors of the movement,
this programme was launched with a view to changing the very philosophical basis
of rural reconstruction. Most of the other institutions approached the village and
rural reconstruction work in a generous spirit. The Community Development
Movement 'Wants to create a psychological change in the villagers. It aims at
inculcating in the villagers' new desires, new incentives, new techniques, and new
confidence so that this vast reservoir of human resources may be used for the
growing economic development of the country. The scope of work for the NGOs is
envisaged to move beyond health to a more comprehensive approach which would
include community-level interventions. The purpose of NGO refers to ‘relief of the
poor, education, medical relief and the advancement of any other object of general
public utility.
● IMPORTANCE AND APPLICABILITY
It is a movement designed to promote better living for the community with active
participation and/or the initiative at the community. aid to the distressed and
elevating the socio-economic status of millions in the country. It is a method by
which people of villages are involved in helping to improve their own economic and
social conditions and thereby they become more effective groups in programmers
of their national development.
It is a process of change by which people's efforts are united with those of group
authorities to improve the economic, social and cultural conditions of communities,
in the life of the nation and to enable them to contribute fully to the national
programme.
● LEARNING OUTCOMES
Through this activity, I learned to serve and help the person and people in need, in
a particular community. As far as I observe, the more we try to help people and
struggle to remove poverty and famine, it gives a person immense pleasure. Also,
how to deal with different and of people having a different fields of interest and
how to build communication chains formally and how surveys work practically and
how to promote the event socially i.e., online via using specific hashtags so that the
mission reaches in masses. The most importantly I learnt about teamwork though
I was not able to meet my team physically; we all were connected to each other
mentally in dealing with the various people who were working on the ground level
with the organization. Also, how to work with transparency so that there is no harm
to any sort of work. The true value of family and food.

● COMPANY'S VISION AND MISSION
The nourishment and upbringing of young talent inspire them to serve the nation.
Our vision ranges from motivation, aspiration and nurturing educational
advancement. Leadership skills into millions of young aspiring students. Also, its
mission is to educate the kids and youth of the region.
The students have stopped their studies due to a lack of resources and financial
crisis. It is providing the loans from the bank, encouraging and motivating them and
their parents emotionally to move towards a good and healthy life. During this
global pandemic, we as a team help several families by providing them with the
resources needed in their day-to-day life. Many migrants who were earning in cities
were in villages, they were hopeless about their future and were unable to provide
even the food and other basic needs of their children. We as a team tried our best
to reach out and help those poor and needy as much as possible in such a
systematic and organized manner.
● CHAIRMAN MESSAGE
Education is the need of the hour to overcome the two major issues that our
country's poverty and an overgrowing population. We realized the quality of our
population could be enhanced only if we began all reforms right from the grass-
root level where higher education shall be of a high standard. Our dream is to
engage students from lower and weaker strata of society toward better and fruitful
higher education.
● ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF THE COMPANY
Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney
formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with
diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong
friendships.
Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service.
Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities
and around the world.
Our ongoing commitment
That commitment endures today through an organization that remains truly
international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six
continents. Our members now span the globe, working to solve some of our world’s
most challenging problems.
We’re not afraid to dream big and set bold goals. We began our fight against polio
in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio
remains endemic in only two countries — down from 125 in 1988.
● BOARDS OF DIRECTORS OF THE ORGANISATION
The Board of Directors establishes policy for Rotary International and provides
guidance that helps our clubs thrive. Clubs elect the members of the Board every
year at the Rotary International Convention, and each director serves for two years.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WORK DONE
During our vacations, I took the decision to work with the Rotaract Club Of
Naharkatia as a volunteer. I joined the team and helped several communities to
fight in this critical situation. We were supposed to go to the places and that too
keep moving and giving all the necessary items was a challenge. The main motive
was to feed the homeless and needy people where we found them. The most
difficult task was to search for homeless people from place to place. The other
problem we faced was that wherever we found the homeless people they we so
many in number that whatever food parcels we had were not sufficient to feed all
the homeless people in that area.
We also took help from the locals to find the homeless people in the town so that
we could cover a lot of people efficiently. We bought food from the local shops and
made small parcels so that it would be convenient to distribute the food.
● INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT
Our project was to reach out to the homeless and poor people with the food
packages. Rotary first reached out to the people who genuinely wanted to draw
their hand to help the needy. Volunteers who have their savings came out to help
us in buying the food materials which as to be distributed. We were involved in
dealing with the various people who were working on the ground level with the
organization, Such as drivers, cleaners, and other volunteers.
The name of the project was "Feeding the Hungry" as the name states it means
serving food to people via going there and distributing it and also distributing food
to people including labour and children who were on the way to come back home.
This Project has taken up the initiatives that are usually taken by the social group
or public welfare societies. These projects aim at serving as a sustainable and
effective instrument to improve the quality of life. As many of us are working from
home, catching up on the latest shows, and spending quality time with our family,
in the comfort of our homes, there are also many people who aren’t as fortunate
as we are. Some are people out there who don’t have a roof above their heads.
Those who can’t afford freshly cooked meals even once a day. And here's an
opportunity given to us to make a difference and bring a smile on their faces during
this trying time. Here are NGOs that provide meals and medicines to the needy
during this lockdown period. You can lend a helping hand by contributing to their
cause in the form of donations. Thus proves that a little help goes a long way.
● ACTIVITIES/EQUIPMENT HANDLED
Through these various activities, I learned to serve and help people who were in
need, in a particular community. As far as I observe, the more we try to help people
and struggle to remove poverty and famine, it gives a person immense pleasure.
Moreover, As the role was divided among each and every one to maintain
transparency and effective work, still, we all learnt about each other's work also.
Like collecting food items was given to a particular group who stayed in the nearby
region as it was convenient to them, buying foods from vendors was given to
another team, to maintain the record of transactions done on different days by the
shopkeepers, drivers and other was listed in Excel to avoid any misconception,
Financial teams also tried to manage to everything within the stipulated amount of
money like payment to vendors, drivers likewise different teams were made and I
was involved in dealing with the various people who were working on the ground
level with the organization. such as drivers, cleaners, and other volunteers.
● CHALLENGES FACED AND HOW THOSE WERE TACKLED
When we work separately in another organization, like working with an NGO, there
were several things that I learned but with that, there were several challenges I was
supposed to face but wherever there are problems there are solutions too. When
I was working with the NGO, I faced many problems and challenges. I faced their
lack of credibility by the people around or people with whom I had to do
transactions. I got many experiences of how people are disloyal and dishonest
towards their work. People with wrong intentions and motives are harmful to the
organization and the community. Like once a while when we were working
together, and the distribution of the food was going on suddenly there was some
shortage of the food while distributing it and all the people out there were
supposed to make food available.
They are the hindrances and obstacles to society which is in the way of
development. It was really hard to deal with such people and make them prove
their mistakes. I was trying to record most of the transactions done with them in a
much more transparent manner. It was really tough to see how people managed
to live in this situation. Many people were looking at it with eyes of hope, when my
team reached the venue, the small children were continuously watching the food
bags carried by our team members.
● LEARNING OUTCOMES
As there were many different activities and many different learning experiences, I
am very grateful that I have learnt from each and every experience and challenge I
faced I learnt to serve and help the person and people who in need, in a particular
community. As far as I observe, the more we try to help people and struggle to
remove poverty and famine, it gives a person immense pleasure. Moreover, I learnt
to do data handling of various camps and events set by the organization during this
pandemic. I was involved in dealing with various people. Working with an NGO is a
real-time experience. It enables your inner talent and provides enough exposure to
enhance your skills. Sharing my personal experience if you're hunting the real
Satisfaction in Life Start working with an NGO. Sometimes you want to help the
needy, but you can't find the right platform trust me you'll get more than enough.
Not only do you help people but also you yourself learn a lot through this
experience and that experience is helpful throughout your life. I would suggest
everyone works for society directly or through an NGO at least their lifetime. It feels
good working with them. It mainly helps in broadening your perspective in terms
of social activities.
Conclusion:
Working with the NGO was a delightful experience, the four weeks with the
organization not only helped me to work for a social cause but also helped me to
gain exposure in fundraising and business development for the organization.
Working for NGO was a challenge in itself, however, planning the tasks made the
journey pleasant and easy. Sticking to the roadmap was the strategy throughout.
After working for 2 weeks I came across various challenges and tried the best
roaches to overcome them. Through this community development project, I got to
know food is more important, even one single grain of rice is important. what we
are having today will not be having even 10% to any other person.
The organization has various program running for children, youth & women and
men. The main concern of the NGO was its awareness, it was hardly noticeable. My
part of the project was a volunteer in NGO in Naharkatia, Assam, India. The
Organization help us to improve our work and we learn a great experience with the
work performed by me. The main objective of this project is to feed the homeless
and poor who were not able to do something for themself. The development is
necessary in these places, health, recreation and employment. Programs are
working for the motivation of community people. We have to find out some
problems and best solution which will help them to improve their lifestyle and will
have a long impact on their lives. In this working Period with NGO, I learned many
things which will help me in future.
