INTRODUCTION

Palmistry or hand reading is an art or science of reading a person’s

nature, secrets of the brain fate character, career and his life from the
lines and lineaments on his/her hands. Mastering this skill needs years of
study and experience but by mastering the information given in this book
anyone can quickly learn palmistry. If you are right-handed, your left
hand is “passive" and shows your inherited potential - those qualities,
abilities and tendencies with which you were born. Your right hand is
"active" and reveals how you have either developed or changed those
natural inborn characteristics. If you are left-handed, the reverse applies,
so your right hand is the passive one while your left hand being active
reveals what you have consciously and deliberately done with the
potential you have inherited.

In many cases the shape, color and texture of the hands and fingers plus
the formation of the major lines will be similar in both hands. These are
the people who for one reason or another have followed the physical,
emotional and mental roads in their original life map. However, you will
also find some cases where there are one or more marked differences
between the right and left hands. These belong to people who have
changed the original, inherited pattern in some way and have developed
new traits, abilities or health conditions which were not handed down
from their ancestors.

A quick glance at both hands will reveal to which of the above categories
you belong to. By noting whether the changes are found in the life line,
head line, heart line or other areas, you can see that the health and
constitution, mental interests or emotional nature have undergone some
type of transformation, for better or worse.

1.1 Palmistry- Methods of Seeing a Hand

Several things should be taken into consideration while studying

Palmistry and some of those facts are given below for your reference.

1
When these rules are followed best results can be obtained from the
palmistry.

1. Do not touch the hand of the person who has come for palm analysis.
This is because the electric current of your body will come in contact
with the current of his/her body and the genuine features of his/her
hands will be lost. Therefore, keep your hands folded while seeing any
hand.

2. Ordinarily, a hand can be seen at any time but the best time for this is
morning time when the person wishing to show his /her hand had
neither breakfast nor taken any food. The blood circulation picks up
speed after taking food due to which the minor lines on the hand
become almost invisible after the intake of food.

3. A person showing his/her hand should have taken bath before

showing the hand. Getting up just after sleep, with a dirty or lazy body,
makes the atmosphere irrelevant and causes hindrances in foretelling.

4. One should not show his/her hand after strenuous exercises or after a
hard work as this is not favorable.

5. A hand should not be shown when it is very hot or cold outside. This is
because the hand changes its color in extreme temperature conditions.

6. No person after taking drinks or intoxicants or in subnormal

conditions should go to the palmist.

7. Also the palmist should not see any hand while (s)he is in an angry
mood or is in a perturbed state for any reason.

8. A hand should be examined in an unconcerned manner. The palmist

cannot remain unconcerned if the person is a loved one or an enemy.
In that case the future telling becomes more or less unrealistic.

1.2 Textures of Hand

The following are the different types of textures of hands.

1. Smooth hands: A person with a very calm and unruffled temperament

has smooth hands. S/he will rarely lose her/his temper and maintains
calmness in times of turmoil as well.

2. Rough hands: To possess rough hands denote the opposite of smooth

hands. Their temper is uneven and easy to be roused. Such individuals

2
usually are more coarse and earthy, and are more fascinated with the
concrete than abstract ideas. They are hard workers.

3. Lined hands: When the hands are networked with a large amount of
fine lines, it reveals that the person is anxious, worrisome, and easily
vexed or angered.

4. Soft hands: To possess soft hands means S/he is a sloth. Though an

individual may possess brilliant markings designing great talent, if the
hand is very soft, they will find motivation difficult and perseverance
even more so. These hands have a tendency for sensuality and
immoral activities.

5. Firm hands: Firm hands denote a great deal of energy and drive and
an active nature. Those with firm hands will start many projects, often
simultaneously, and possess the energy and will power to see them to
their end.

6. Hard hands: If the hands are hard but not springy, and instead bony
and tough, the individual lacks energy and enthusiasm. In hard
hands, there is no energy to begin with. It means a dispassionate,
selfish, and potentially pessimistic nature.

Naturally, a hand may possess a combination of the above qualities, for it

is possible to have a soft, smooth hand or a hard and rough hand. In such
cases, the above mentioned qualities add up to define the individual.

1.3 Color of the Palm

1. Red color of the palm indicates a great robustness. A red handed

person is passionate, quick-tempered, and ardent.

2. Yellow color in the palm is the mark of the depressed and pessimistic
character.

3. Pink color in the palm denotes a hopeful, sanguine, enthusiastic, and

bright nature.

4. White color denotes a lack of interest in the outside world and those
with whom the bearer may associate. White hands are egotistical,
consequent in selfishness and a lack of sympathy for others. It is also
a symbol for general ill-health and weakness.

5. Black line denotes a trait of a person as grave, haughty, distant, and

vengeful.

3
1.4 Qualities of Lines

The manner in which the lines are engraved on the palm can be
segregated as under:
1. A deeply-cut line strengthens the influence of the line over other
traits. The deepest line on a palm signifies the most important aspect
of their life, i.e. a deeply-cut line of heart would designate an
emotional, passionate person, while a deep line of head would betray
an individual enamored with ideas and the intellect.

2. A thin line indicates the opposite, of a deeply cut line as would be

expected. A thin line will have little influence over the bearer's life, just
as a thin line of fate would show little direction in life and a thin line of
life would show weakness of constitution and health.

3. A broad and shallow line is also a sign of weakness, but typically due
to physical factors, either congenital or incidental.

4. Normal line is straight, firm, light pink in hue, and clearly marked on
the palm and it denotes a normal and average person.

Apart from the primary and secondary lines, there may be lines of chance
and influence that rise and fall. One may ascertain whether a line is rising
or falling by the varying thickness of a line.

1. 5 Palmistry- Types of Hands

The palm is composed of small bones. There are nearly 14 bones joined
together which give shape to the palm. In the front part of these bones
there are three more pieces of bones composing each finger and 2 more
composing each thumb. The upper ends of the bones are protected with
nails. From the wrist up to the end of the finger of Saturn is termed as
"Hand". According to the science of Palmistry there are different types of
hands.

1. Very small hand: Persons of this kind of hand are narrow minded and
suspicious by nature. They quarrel for small gains. They give first
priority for their selfish aims. They talk ill of others. They do not
contribute anything for the society.

2. Small hand: Though these people have high aims, they do not attain
their plans due to their idleness. They like false talks and an
exaggerated atmosphere around them. They create an illusory image

4
around them. They have sharp brains but they do not fully utilize them
that they repent later in life.

3. Ordinary hand: Such persons are full of practical wisdom. They know
how to behave with others. They deal with others in a very practical
manner. They get their due respect from the society. They constantly
face struggles in their lives but achieve success in their lives facing
them. Their health remains good. They have the greatest capacity of
moulding them according to the conditions prevalent around them.

4. Long hand: Such persons are generally useful to the society. They are
neither happy nor full of anxiety. They are practical in their dealings
and are clever and promising. They quickly get to the bottom of any
problem. These people are fully useful to the society.

5. Very long hand: Such people are not of any use to the society. They
are too emotional and live in an imaginary world. They get perturbed
when faced with problems. They are not competent or strong enough to
challenge such situations.

6. Primary hand: The formation of the hand is unsymmetrical and the

fingers appear to be unsymmetrical. Such persons are termed to be
fully civilized. But they are totally materialistic. The main aim of these
people is food, clothes and a house. They do not understand the value
of life. Breaking of law is very easy for them. Such persons come under
the category of criminals.

7. Square hand: There are several knots in this kind of hand. The hand
is unsymmetrical with prominent bones. Such persons are genius and
intellectuals. The society receives their contribution. They lead the
society. Persons with such hands are philosophers, artists, painters,
Men of letters and psychologists. They do not attach too much
importance to money.

8. Workman's hand: This hand is a little lengthier in proportion to its

width. The mounts are muscular and hard and most of them are
suppressed and heavy. Such persons remain active in their lives and
do some work or the other. They do not sit idle. They gain success in
life through their hard work.

9. Philosopher's hand: Such persons keep harmony between sentiments

and practicability. They open up new vistas and are successful in life.
Such persons are learned and intellectuals. They do such things that
are good for the society. Great philosophers, thinkers and intellectuals

5
are bestowed with these hands. They are deficient in wealth though
they are highly respected.

10. Artist's hand: This hand is soft, supple and tender. The joints of all
bones are equal in proportion. Such persons are lovers of art and
nature. Such persons have a special bent for love. Financial anxiety is
always present in their lives.

11. Ideal hand: This is said to be the best type of hand. This hand is
well-formed, soft and supple. Such a hand is neither much long nor
wide. Such persons come to know about their future happenings. They
constantly move forward. They remain unsuccessful from the worriedly
point of view. Their end is very troublesome.

12. Mixed hand: The shape of the mixed hand is a mixture of a

philosopher's hand and that of a workman. Such persons begin a work
in such haste and they leave their work incomplete due to their
anxiety. Their mind is constantly full of disbelief, apprehension and
uncertainty. They soon become hopeless and do not succeed in
anything they do. They get success in life after many efforts and trials.

Chapter – 2

MARKS ON THE HAND

Palmistry markings are positive or negative interruptions and blockages in

the normal flow of the palm lines, mounts and fingers. They can indicate
warnings of difficulties, separations, painful events or health problems.
Some markings may indicate a period of recovery, problem resolution, or
an emotional healing period. However, their meanings are dependent
upon where they are located on the palm, as each area on the palm
represents a different part of your life. They can also enhance or diminish
the energies from those areas. The important markings are breaks,
chains, crosses, dots, grilles, islands, squares, stars, tassels, transverse
lines, triangles, tridents, upward and downward lines and vertical lines.

2.1 Transverse Marks

A transverse line marking (figure 2.1) on the hand is an evil sign that
nullifies the positive qualities of any mount. Though a person may have
the markings of a heroic mount, these qualities can be reduced if it has a
score of transverse lines. If transverse lines are found across the mount of
Mercury, it indicates that the bearer will use his/her talents of diplomacy
and tact for deceit and guile for ill gains.

Figure 2.1: Transverse marks

2.2 Vertical Marks

Vertical markings (figure 2.2) are a benefic signs. If found on the mounts,
they heighten its positive qualities and assist in annulling any poor signs
also located on the mount. They are the opposites of the above-mentioned
transverse markings. Vertical markings upon the mount of Mercury will
bring a great deal of tact and talkativeness to serve for pleasant
communication and friendship. It will emphasize science and business

7
skills. Two vertical lines on the mount of Mercury are often the symbol of
a doctor or biologist.

Figure 2.2: Vertical marks

2.3 The Grille

The grille (figure 2.3) is a point at which the energies of the hand dissipate
or escape out. If grilles are found throughout the hand, the power of its
bearer is constantly drained by annoyance and imagined slights. If a grille
appears on the mount, it saps or opposes the qualities of the mount, e.g.
such a Grille on the mount of Apollo will forever put off the attainment of
any true success in life.

Figure 2.3: Grille

2.4 The Cross

Crosses (figure 2.4) always denote troubles, disappointment, danger, and

when found on lines. Occasionally, it can refer to a dramatic change in
one's life due to a crisis or hardship. They should always be considered an
ill sign save for two cases: when found on the mount of the Jupiter and
when located between the head and heart lines. The bearer of such a
symbol is supposed to possess a greater degree of mysticism, occultism,
and superstition.

Figure 2.4: Cross

2.5 The Star

The star (figure 2.5) is a symbol of good and sudden brilliance in a

person's life. A line that ends in a star signifies the greatest
accomplishments possible; however, the star often carries with it an
unpleasant price. For instance if the line of Apollo ends in a star, it
denotes great fame, but this often results in the bearer suffering the loss
of their private sphere to their successful public sphere. A star on the
8
mounts will naturally denote great proficiency with the mount's
corresponding traits, yet these traits may consume some of the other
bearer's qualities. The star is certainly a sign to be viewed with great
caution.

Figure 2.5: Star

2.6 The Island

The island (figure 2.6) is always a negative sign. It is often a sign of some
hereditary evil, such as a heart condition or intemperance with spirits,
but it may just as easily represent non-congenital emotional stress. The
island is a gradual and prolonged, and oft times delicate period of trouble
in an individual's life. It could represent mounting stress on the line of the
head, and manifest itself as headaches. On the line of fate, It could be a
period in which the individual finds himself surrounded with mounting
debts that peak at the widest point of the island. These misfortunes will
last to the extent that the island is long.

Figure 2.6: Island

2.7 The Square

The square (figure 2.7) is almost always a benefic symbol. It denotes an

especial significance when covering an area that is experiencing
commotion, such as chained, broken, or dotted lines. In this instance,
difficulties will arise but the bearer will persevere and the crisis will be
averted or disillusioned. Damage may be reduced to a minimal one or
prevented all together. A square after perturbations in a line signifies
repair. The one instance in which the square denotes negative influences
is when it is found on the upper portion of the mount of Venus near the
life line, where it denotes detention or incarceration.

Figure 2.7: Square

9
2.8 The Circle

The circle (figure 2.8) is a very rare marking in palmistry. It is an evil

mark unless it is on a mount, in which case it usually augments the
powers and promise of a mount. If it touches any line, it brings
inescapable misfortune to the line it touches. The native would go round
and round in a circle without being able to break through and get free out
of life's hassles.

Figure 2.8: Circle

2.9 The Triangle

The triangle (figure 2.9) is a positive sign, though strong significance

should be ascribed to it only when it stands as an independent mark, not
composed of intersecting lines. It denotes mental flourish and success
corresponding to the location of the mark, i.e., if it is found upon the
mount of Apollo, it would denote an artistic success. If it is found next to
a line, it will naturally take on significance dependent upon the line. The
triangle will never reach the great heights of success, but it possesses
balance and will not carry with it the backlash that so often accompanies
the star.

Figure 2.9: Triangle

2.10 The Spot

The spot (figure 2.10) is a sign of a distinct event or trouble, though it

often comes in groups that denote a chronic disorder. If it is found on a
line, it typically signifies a temporary illness corresponding to the line,
e.g., a spot on the Line of Head indicates some violence to the head or
brain fever.

Figure 2.10: Spot

10
2.11 The Trident

The trident (figure 2.11) is a most propitious marking. If it rises from a

line, it develops the qualities of that line and draws additional power from
the mounts or lines that branch on either side head towards. If found on a
mount, the trident carries with it great flourish of the properties of that
mount in conjunction with its neighboring mounts. The trident is such a
powerful symbol that it eclipses the star in beneficence.

Figure 2.11: Trident

2.12 The Tassel

A tasseled line (figure 2.12) appears at the end of the lifeline; as the
individual weakens and deteriorates with age, so too does the line. Such is
the case with the line of head, where it denotes a weakening of mental
clarity and approaching senility or old age; the line of heart with a
deteriorating heart condition or emotional trauma that has left the
individual very feeble and unstable.

Figure 2.12: Tassel

2.13 Drooping Off-shoots

Lines that droop (figure 13) from any larger line indicate a disappointment
in life. Along the line of heart, it denotes disappointment in love or an
unfortunate event in which the individual became too emotionally
involved. Along the line of head, it may signify the obstruction of one's
ideals or disillusionment.

Figure 2.13: Drooping off-shoots

11
2.14 Rising Offshoots

Rising offshoots (figure 2.14) are the inverse of the drooping offshoots.
They represent periods of sudden inspiration, fruition, and happiness. It
will draw upon the qualities of the mount that it is directed to. For
instance, an offshoot springing from the line of head and nearing the
mount of Mercury is a sign of scientific prowess: perhaps an invention, or
a discovery, or a synthesis of concepts that has long been drifting through
the individual's mind, but had till then been dissociated.

Figure 2.14: Rising offshoots

2.15 Sister Lines

Sister lines (figure 2.15) support the line along which they follow. Some
sister lines are quite common, such as the line of Mars, which
accompanies and strengthens the constitution denoted by the line of life;
The line of Apollo is a sister line for the line of fate, as it serves a similar
function and accentuates the fulfillment one feels in the course of their
career. Sister lines protect and heal lines that are broken, crooked, frayed,
or side-by-side. Lest a line exist with several negative markings, sister
lines will be the guiding hand that shall shield the bearer from the brunt
of life's assaults.

Figure 2.15: Sister lines

Chapter – 3

FINGER STUDY
The length of the fingers gives a range of information about the character
of a person. A long-fingered person is analytical and academic, liking to
study things in detail. A person with markedly short fingers is very
practical and intuitive, liking to go with their raze instinct. When the
hands are in proportion it shows a balanced personality. The proportion of
the fingers in relation to each other is very important. They each stand for
a character marking and indicate the strength of that quality.

3.1 Short Fingers

Figure 3.1 belongs to people who hate to beat around the bush. They
think and act quickly and cannot be bothered with lots of small, fussy
details. Slow, careful analysis bores them; instead, they like to go straight
to the point.

Figure 3.1: Short fingers

3.2 Long Fingers

Figure 3.2: Long fingers

13
Figure 3.2 belongs to people who think, move and act very slowly. They
are careful, attentive to small details and seldom will do anything without
thinking of all the pros and cons; consequently, they often miss
opportunities. Fast, efficient or impatient people will become exasperated
by the way long-fingered people give slow, detailed, drawn-out accounts of
everything they discuss.

3.4 Smooth Fingers

Figure 3.3 is on people who are guided their feelings and first
impressions. They are quick to think and act and their motivations are
based on intuition or inspiration rather than on cold, hard facts, reason,
logic and rational analysis. They appreciate all that is refined and
beautiful.

Figure 3.3: Smooth fingers

3.4 Knotted Fingers

Figure 3.4 belongs to people who seldom make snap judgments, because
they like to analyze and thoroughly investigate all the facts. They reason
things out rather than act on feelings or sentiment. If they carry these
characteristics to excess, these people can be quite skeptical and lacking
in imagination.

Figure 3.4: Knotted fingers

14
3.5 Characteristics of Fingers

Forefinger: Confidence, ego, ambition and drive.

Middle finger: Discipline and balance.

Ring finger: Emotional expression and creativity.

Little finger: Communication.

Important characteristics accessible from fingers are:

1. A balanced ego is indicated when the forefinger reaches the bottom of
the nail of the middle finger.

2. Balanced emotions are indicated when the ring finger reaches the
bottom of the nail of the middle finger.

3. Great confidence is indicated when the fore finger reaches past the
bottom of the nail of the middle finger.

4. Very emotional and creative impulses are indicated when the ring
finger reaches past the bottom of the nail of the middle finger.

5. A lack of confidence is indicated when the fore finger doesn’t reach

past the bottom of the nail of the middle finger.

6. Blocked emotions are indicated when the ring finger doesn’t reach past
the bottom of the nail of the middle finger.

7. When the middle finger is prominent, standing out from the rest, it
shows a serious and intense nature.

8. When the little finger stands out naturally from your hand it shows an
independent and outspoken nature.

3.6 Wearing Rings on Fingers

Rings on the fingers can indicate your inner character. Many rings on the
hand show somebody who is wearing emotional armor and is relying on
outer things for their wellbeing.

Forefinger: ambition, need to enhance your ego.

Middle finger: Materialistic nature.

15
Ring finger: This is conventional and is only noted if there are multiple or
large rings adorning it. If this is the case then emotional or creative
frustration could be present.

Little finger: It is common to see this in the gay community. Otherwise, it

could indicate difficulties in sexual expression.

3.7 Signs on Fingers

Signs found on fingers are of great importance to a palmist. They have

great significance in criminology. A person’s character and his/her way of
thinking can be known fully. His/her individuality can be understood
with the help of these signs.

1. Javelin: If there is a sign of javelin or an arrow in the first phalange of

the finger, then the person is very capable and learned from an
intellectual point of view. Such persons succeed in adverse conditions
and win over the conditions and are capable of working according to
the atmosphere. Such persons have heart trouble in their old age.

2. Tent: Signs like a tent on the phalanges of fingers of some persons

indicates that they are kind-hearted and rise very high by means of
their artistic talents. They also take undue advantage of others. They
are unbalanced mentally and their family life is troublesome.

3. Circle: Sign of circle on fingers is considered auspicious. Such persons

are independent in their thoughts and originality is seen in all they do.
They remain away from old beliefs and conservatism.

4. Arch: Persons with arch on their fingers are generally lazy and of
suspicious nature. They do not have confidence in themselves and also
in others. They create an atmosphere of illusion around them. They
gain special success in mystic works and detective services.

5. Triangle: The sign of triangle marks a man mysterious. Such persons

are able to make their bodies strong by practicing yoga. They love
loneliness and are orthodox.

6. Star: Persons on whose fingers the sign of star or cross is visible are
very fateful and fortunate. They receive wealth in life quite
unexpectedly many times. They remain happy from the financial point
of view.

16
7. Net: Fingers with net on them are indicative that the man will meet
with more obstacles and difficulties in life. They overcome these
difficulties and come unscathed by their sheer will-power. They are
less comfortable and less happy in life. Such signs are seen in the
hands of culprits and dacoits.

8. Rectangle: If rectangle is seen on the phalange of the finger then the

person is laborious. He keeps the Goddess of wealth in his house. He is
prosperous and happy in life.

9. If more than one of the above signs is seen on the fingers of a person,
then the person is entitled to the combined benefits of those signs.

3.8 The Phalanges

Figure 3.5: The phalanges

The phalanges (figure 3.5) on the eight fingers are divided into three
groups shown by A, B, C: "A" corresponds to the physical plane, "B" to the
emotional plane, "C" to the mental plane. In most cases, as you look at
each finger, the length and thickness of the three phalanges will be about
the same, indicating a normal balance between the physical, emotional
and mental facets of a person's makeup. However, If one of the groups –
that is, all the As, Bs or Cs - is noticeably thicker, thinner, longer or
shorter than the other two groups, the person concerned will place much
more emphasis sis on one aspect of life - physical emotional or mental.

3.9 Thumb

Thumb in a way, represents the whole hand. Hence, more importance is

attached to the thumb than it is given to the lines in the palm. The thumb
reveals the whole identity of the individual to the palmist. The thumb is
considered as the root of the whole hand. The thumb is considered as the
center of the will-power. It is formed by 2 pieces of bones. The first
phalange of the thumb indicates logic and the phalange containing the
nail indicates will-power.

17
According to medical sciences, no harm is done for the individual if the
four fingers are cut off. But if the thumb is torn and there is profuse
bleeding then the person might go insane and even results in his/her
death.
3.9.1 Parts of the thumb
1. First phalange of the thumb: If the first phalange of the thumb is
very long, then such a person is self-willed while s/he has less desire
to work if the thumb is shorter. Such persons are weak-willed. If the
fore part of the thumb is squarish, the person is clever in legal matters
and is respected for his/her acts of justice. S/he is very obstinate if the
fore part of the thumb is wide. If the forepart of the thumb is
extraordinarily long then such a person is a murderer or a dacoit or
remain engrossed in anti-social activities.
2. The second phalange of the thumb: Persons whose second phalange
is long are clever, careful and a take a lead in social activities. They are
held in high esteem by the society. If the phalange is short, the person
works without any forethought. S/he works in acts of dangerous
magnitude. If this phalange is clumsy, then s/he is devoid of the power
of reasoning. If this phalange is depressed then the person's mind is
sharp and sensitive.
3. Third part of thumb or place of Venus: The third part of the thumb
is not a phalange, instead it the place of Venus. A person who has this
part more prominent, elegant with a pink tinge is well-advanced in love
matters. They gain full popularity among friends. They succeed in life
and smile under difficulties as well. If the mount of Venus is much
protruded, then the person would be sexually immoral. If this part is
less prominent or submerged with more than necessary lines then the
person would be having a frustrated temperament.

3.9.2 Different types of thumbs

1. Long thumb: Such persons are self-willed, self -dependent and control
others. In their lives intelligence has more importance and they are
called intellectuals. They are especially interested in mathematics and
Engineering.

Figure 3.6: Long thumb

18
2. Short thumb: Such persons do not work with their own mind instead
do so at the influence of others. Emotions have prominent place in
their lives than intelligence. They take special interest in poetry,
painting or music.

Figure 3.7: Short thumb

3. Hard thumb: Such persons are obstinate and alert. They possess the
capacity to keep anything to themselves. They are wanting in emotions
in their lives and they mostly work on the strength of intelligence.

Figure 3.8: Hard thumb

4. Flexible and supple thumb: A person with such a thumb is much

interested in amassing wealth and is capable of adjusting according to
circumstances.

Figure 3.9: Flexible thumb

5. Obtuse-angled thumb: If the thumb makes an obtuse angle with the

index finger then it comes under this category. Such thumbs are well-
formed, long and thin. They are called gentle thumbs. Persons having
such thumbs are gentle and sweet-tempered. They are artists and
musicians.

6. Right-angled thumb: These are those thumbs which form a right

angle with the index finger. These thumbs are elegant, strong and

19
appear like pillars. Such a person believes in hard work. They are
short-tempered but quickly cool off. They stick to their words. The
feeling of revenge is very strong in them. Such persons can be neither
good friends not good enemies.

7. Acute- angled thumb: Thumbs which make an acute angle at the joint
with the index finger come under this category. The length of such
thumbs is comparatively smaller and looks clumsy. Such thumbs are
classed as of evil quality. Persons with this kind of thumb are
frustrated throughout their lives. They are very lazy. They do not
complete any work. They remain in bad habits with lavish spending.
They are less interested in religion and are more inclined towards
ghosts, spirits and the like. They are always attracted towards the
other women in life.

3.10 The Nails

The nails on the fingers would also be taken into consideration while
studying a palm. These nails are at the tip of fingers and help in
protecting the fingers. The nails protect the tips of fingers so that the
fingers do not get damaged or hurt by a blow from outside and these nails
help in enhancing the beauty of the fingers. They are also good
conductors of electricity. The natural electricity present in the atmosphere
enters the body through these nails. Also, the rays from other planets
enter our body through the nails and help us to work effectively.

Figure 3.10: The Nails

The different types of nails are:

1. Short nails: Short nails reveal that the man is uncivilized. Such
person might have been born in a high family, yet s/he would be
narrow-minded, weak and of wicked tendencies.

2. Short and pale nails: Such nails reveal the wickedness of the
individual. Such a person tells lies at every step and will even deceive
his/her own family. S/he cannot be trusted.

20
3. Short and rectangular nails: A person having such nails on his/her
fingers is a heart patient and dies of heart attack.

4. Short and wide nails: Such persons believe in quarrelling. Criticizing

and interfering in other's works is their sole aim in life. They are
stubborn in nature.

5. Hard and narrow nails: These persons are generally quarrelsome in

nature. Once they make up their mind they shall do anything even if it
is wrong. They stick to their decisions.

6. Square nails: Such nails reveal the wicked nature of the individual.
Such nails show that the man is a coward, timid and subdued.

7. Short and triangular Nails: Such nails are generally wide at the upper
tip and narrow at the lower end. Persons with such nails are lazy and
hesitant to work. They like loneliness and do not like others to interfere
in their matters.

8. Nails wider in proportion to Length; Such persons get angry quickly.

They complete any work they have started without leaving it midway.

9. Short nails and knotty fingers: Such persons are quarrelsome. If

such nails are found in the fingers of a female, then she must be
dominating her husband and also quarrelsome.

10. Rounded nails: Persons having rounded nails at the tip are
quarrelsome and take quick decisions. They know how to act on the
decision they have taken.

11. Thin and long nails: Such persons are weak-bodied and fickle-
minded. They cannot take independent decisions but act on the advice
given by others.

12. Long and curved nails: Such persons are not of good character
and do have affairs with many women.

13. Perfect nails: Such nails are little longer than wider and have a
natural luster. They are of high ideals and good-intentioned. They
would be successful in their lives.

3.11 Signs on Nails

1. Black spots: If a person has black spots on her/his nails then s/he is
likely to meet with great calamity in life. Black spots on nails are an
indication of impurity of blood.

21
2. White spots: White sports indicate some obstruction to the circulation
of blood and also indicate some future diseases. If such spots are
found on the nails then it has to be concluded then that the man is
likely to get sick soon.

3. Half moon: A half moon on the index finger indicates promotion and
some good news. Half moon in the finger of Saturn indicates that the
person shall get benefits from machinery related industry and also
there is the possibility of getting money. Half moon on the finger of
Apollo indicates that the person shall soon rise in status. Half Moon in
the little finger indicates profits in business dealings. Half Moon on the
thumb base indicates progress and auspiciousness.

4. Big half moon: In some cases a big half Moon which covers almost
half the nail is visible. In such cases the contrary of ten above results.

5. Yellow spots: If yellow spots are visible on one or more fingers, it is

certain that the man will meet his death on the near future.

6. Red spots: Sometimes red spots are visible on ten nails. It indicates
bad omen and the person is likely to get murdered soon.

THE MOUNTS

Mounts have a special significance in the study of palms because different

lines are formed and developed due to mounts. Mounts (figure 4.1) have
been named after the planets and the special features of the planets are
revealed in the corresponding mounts. It has been found that the planet
which is more prominent in the horoscope is also prominent in the palm.
The different types of mounts are:

Figure 4.1: The mounts

23
4.1 The Mount of Jupiter

This is situated at the base of the index finger and above the mount of
Mars. It represents god power, leadership, organization and authority. The
mount of Jupiter is said to be very helpful in life and moves the person
towards progress.

If the mount of Jupiter is well developed and prominent, then such a

person is said to possess godly qualities. Such persons try to save their
self-respect. They are learned and are always prepared to help others.
They do not get disturbed under difficult conditions. All the justices of
high courts and high authorities are found to have well-developed mount
of Jupiter. They have the quality to change the public in their favor and
are also mostly religious-minded.

If the mount is less prominent or under-developed then there is a general

deficiency of the above qualities of the person. Physically such persons are
of ordinary body, healthy and have smiling faces. They are experts in
delivering lectures. They are kind at heart. They are more inclined
towards attainment of respect and good reputation rather than wealth.
They have a soft corner for the opposite sex.

If the mount is developed more than necessary then such a person is

found to be selfish, proud and self-willed. If the mount is absent in a
person, and then there is want of self-respect in him. They get very little
patronage from their parents. They are found in the company of lower-
class people always.

4.2 The Mount of Saturn

This mount has its base at the root of the finger of Saturn. The
development of this mount on the palm is indicative of extra-ordinary
tendencies. If the mount is fully developed then the person is highly
fortunate and rises very high in life with his own efforts. But such a
person likes to remain distant and constantly moves towards his goal.
S/he gets totally engrossed in her/his work, that s/he neglects her/his
family. By nature they are irritating and suspicious. Persons with
prominent mount of Saturn are engineers, scientists, literary men or
chemists. If this mount is very much developed, then the person commits
suicide in her/his life. This mount is prominent in the hands of dacoits,
cheats and robbers. The mount in such cases are yellowish or pale. If
there are more than necessary lines on the mount then such a person is a
coward and very licentious. If the mount is missing in the palm, then
such a person's life has no importance. But s/he might get a special kind
of success or respect in life. If the mount is protruded ordinarily then the

24
person has more than necessary faith in fate and shall succeed in his
plans. Such persons have very few friends.

4.3 The Mount of Sun or Apollo

The mount of Sun is situated at the base of the finger of Apollo and on the
upper part of the heart line. This mount is indicative of the success of the
individual. With the prominence of this mount, the person becomes a
genius and famous. A person reaches a very high status in life if the
mount is well-developed and pink in color. Such persons are of cheerful
nature and work in close co-operation with friends. Such persons are
successful as artists, musicians and painters. They are inborn genius.
They are honest in their dealings and are completely materialistic. Very
well developed mount indicates self-confidence, gentleman-ship, kindness
and grandeur. If the mount is not prominent then the person would be
interested in beauty. But s/he would not be able to succeed in this field. If
the mount is developed more than necessary then such a person would be
very proud and a flatterer. S/he would be having friends from the lower
sections. They are extravagant and quarrelsome and never succeed in life.
If the mount is absent, then the person leads a very ordinary life. S/he
would be a dull-minded and foolish fellow.

4.4 The Mount of Mercury

The prominent part on the base of the finger of Mercury is called the
mount of Mercury. This mount shows materialistic prosperity and
affluence. But much importance is not attached to this mount of late.
Persons with greatly developed mount are clever and crafty and are adept
in cheating. If the mount is ordinarily developed and has a square mark
on it then such a person would be a criminal of higher order. Such
persons believe in breaking the law. Persons with prominent mount are
experts in psychology and know how to influence others. They gain
success in business. If the mount is very much protruded then such
persons are after money and the main aim of their lives is to amass
wealth. If the mount is absent in the palm of a person then the person
passes his life in poverty. If the mount is ordinarily prominent then he
would be interested in inventions and scientific works.

4.5 The Mount of Venus

The spot beneath the second phalange of the thumb and surrounded by
the age line is called the mount of Venus. Only persons with prominent
mount of Venus can only recognize the world properly and enjoy it.
Persons having this mount of very high order are beautiful and civilized.
They are very healthy and are able to influence others. They do not lack
courage. If the mount is less prominent in a person's hand then he would

25
be a coward and weak-natured. Persons with very prominent mount of
Venus are licentious and always covet for the opposite sex. Such a person
would be brilliant and handsome. Others are attracted to them. They
suffer from diseases of the throat. They do not have any faith in God. If
the mount is absent in one's hand then s/he lives the life of an ascetic
and has no interest in family life. The person's life would be full of
troubles and miseries.

4.6 The Mount of Mars

There are two Mars on the palm. They are known as progressive Mars and
regressive Mars. The surrounded portion beneath the starting point of the
life line and above the mount of Venus is called the mount of Mars.
Basically, this mount is indicative of war. A person becomes courageous,
fearless and frank by the presence of the mount of Mars. Persons with
prominent mount of Mars are courageous, fearless and powerful. They are
neither coward nor can be subdued. They have firmness and balance in
life. If the mount turns out to be very prominent then the person would be
a villain, tyrant and a criminal. S/he would be the first in all anti-social
activities. If the mount of Mars is quite developed and the palm is reddish
in color then the person shall reach greater heights in life. S/he gets
complete success in life. If a cross sign is found on the mount of Mars
then the person shall meet her/his death in war or while fighting with
others. If a zig-zag line is found then the person is likely to die in an
accident. A person can be considered as a coward if the mount of Mars is
absent in her/his palm.

4.7 The Mount of Luna or the Mount of Moon

The mount of Moon is formed on the palm on the left of the lifeline and
below the bracelet, also below the area of Neptune where it joins the life
line. The presence of the mount of Moon on a palm makes a man
imaginative, a lover of beauty and very emotional. Persons with fully
developed mount of Moon are lovers of nature and beauty. They remain in
the dream world. There is no lack of imagination in their lives. Such
persons are high class artists, musicians and Person of Letters. They are
full of religious ideas.

If the mount is fairly developed then the person is imaginative and makes
castles in the air. S/he makes many plans but none of them are
completed, some not even started. They are too emotional. Persons not
having the mount of Moon are hard-hearted and fully materialistic. They
have fighting as their main trait. If zig-zag lines are found on this mount
then the person shall go on voyages several times in life. If a circle is
found on the Mount, then such a person shall go to foreign countries for
political reasons. If this mount is more than developed, then that person

26
is found to be fickle-minded, suspicious or mad. He suffers from headache
all the time.

4.8 Harshala

The Harshala is also known as Prajapathi or Uranus. This planet is more

powerful and exerts more influence in comparison with the other planets.
It has its area of influence on the palm between the heart and the head
lines. Its area is a little below the little finger and the mount of Mercury.
This planet influences the heart and the brain. A man having this mount
below the mount of Mercury and between the heart and the head lines
becomes a world-famous scientist or mathematician. If this mount is less
prominent then such a person takes interest in the works connected with
machines. S/he becomes famous throughout the world if a line comes
from Harshala and goes towards the fingers of Apollo.

4.9 The Mount of Neptune

The area of this planet on the palm is below the head line and above the
mount of Moon. A man becomes an eminent musician, poet or writer if
this mount is very prominent. If a line is seen on this mount and this line
meets the fate line a little ahead, the person gets some post of great
importance. If this mount is developed more than enough then such a
person's life would be full of grief and her/his family life would be spoilt.
They are maniacs, suspicious and cruel.

4.10 The Mount of Dragon's Head

Its area is situated below the headline, surrounded by the mounts of

Moon, Mars and Venus. The fate line passes over this mount while going
towards the mount of Saturn. If the mount is prominent and protruded
then the person would be very fortunate. If the fate line is deep he would
be a genius, religious-minded and shall enjoy all worriedly comforts. If the
mount is prominent and the fate line is broken then the person shall get
wealthy suddenly and also fall down suddenly in life. If the mount is less
protruded then the person would be a restless character and will lose all
her/his wealth.
4.11 The Mount of Dragon's Tail

The place of this mount is a little above the bracelets, dividing the mounts
of Venus and Moon and is near the starting point of the fate line. This
planet shows its influence from the 5th year to the 20th year of age. If the
mount is ordinarily prominent and protruded and the fate line is deep and
clear, the person would be fortunate and shall enjoy all pleasures in his
lifetime. If the mount is unusually protruded and the fate line is weak
then he has to experience hardships in his young age. The financial
27
position of her/his family also gets worse day by day. A person can
advance in life only when the mount of dragon's tail is prominent and the
fate line is clear and prominent.

28
Chapter – 5

THE LINES
All the lines (figure 5.1) on the palm however big or small, thick or thin
are helpful in determining the speed of the life force of the individual.
Therefore it is necessary for an expert palmist to make a critical study of
each line found on the palm.

The clear and deep long lines on a palm indicate success, while the
broken, thin and indistinct lines are a handicap for the person.

Every man has 7 main lines and 12 secondary lines.

Figure 5.1: The lines

The Seven main lines are:

1. The life line: It is also called as or Age line. This has the greatest
importance on a palm. Everything in life is in this line. The life line
commences from under the mount of Jupiter and originates from the
side of the palm near the thumb and the index finger surrounding the
mount of Venus and ultimately ends at the bracelets. This line is seen
in all human beings. A person's age, health, sickness and all can be
known from this line.

29
2. The head line: This line starts from the mount of Jupiter or from
above it. In most of the palms, the head line and the life line originate
from the same place. The head line divides the palm into two parts. If
the line is long, deep and distinct, then the person would have a sharp
mind and would be an intellectual. If it is faint, indistinct or appears
broken at several places then the person would be weak-minded or a
laborer. The study of a person's brain is done with the help of the head
line.

3. The heart line: This line starts from under the mount of Mercury,
separating the areas of Mercury and Harshala, reaching under the
index finger and the mount of Jupiter. This line is directly linked to the
heart and is found in almost all palms. This line is absent in robbers
and cruel people. If the line is weak, then the person would be
inhuman or merciless.

4. The line of Apollo or Sun: It is also called the "Line of Success". The
source of the line is different in different palms but ultimately it ends
at the mount of Sun.

5. The fate line: This line is not visible in many hands. It commences
from different places but it ends only at the mount of Saturn. This line
develops from below the palm towards the upper side. This line is
found in only 50% of the population of the world.

6. The health line: This line is related to health and it has no fixed place
of commencement. But it terminates at the mount of Mercury. Health
and sickness are studied with the help of this line. In some cases the
line is thick while in some others it is very thin like a hair.

7. The marriage line: It is also called the "Love Line". It is situated on the
mount of Mercury. This line comes form the outside of the palm
towards the inside of the palm on the mount of Mercury. In some
hands 3 or 4 lines are found and it does not mean that they shall
marry that many times. If a cross is found on the line then the
marriage or the engagement of the person would be broken. If there are
some small signs on the line then the person shall have illegal affairs.

The 12 Secondary Lines are:

1. The ring of Jupiter: It makes a half moon on the mount of Jupiter
and covers its whole area which looks like a ring.

2. The line of Mars: This line commences from the base of the life line
near the thumb, passes over the area of Mars and goes towards the

30
mount of Venus and line of Mars, but its place of commencement is
not sure.

3. The ring of Saturn: This line surrounds the mount of Saturn in the
base finger of Saturn. Its one end lies between the finger of Saturn and
index finger and the other end lies between the finger of Saturn and
the finger of Apollo.

4. The ring of Sun: This surrounds the mount of Sun like a ring. The one
end of the ring lies between the finger of Saturn and the finger of Sun
and the other end lies between the finger of Sun and the little finger.
The shape of the ring remains the same in all hands.

5. The girdle of Venus: This commences between the index finger and
the finger of Saturn and ends between the finger of Apollo and the little
finger. It encircles both the mounts of Sun and Saturn. Despite the
name, it has no connection with the mount of Venus.

6. The Moon line: It is a line in the shape of a bow. It commences from

the area of the Moon, passes over the Neptune and Harshala areas and
ends after reaching the mount of Mercury. This line is seen in very few
hands.

7. The line of influence: It enhances the influence of any line with which
it is found. This line passes over the areas of Moon and Neptune and
reaches the Fate line. In some hands it is double and in some hands it
is treble. Its origin is from the mount of Venus.

8. The travelling line: This line denotes all kinds of travels. This passes
over the line of Moon or is seen proceeding from the area of Venus
towards the area of Mars and is seen crossing the area of Dragon's
Head, moves towards the Mount of Moon. Such lines are both thick
and thin.

9. The lines of children: These lines are seen near the mount of Mercury
in the form of vertical lines over the marriage line. These lines are very
thin and cannot be seen with the naked eye.

10. The bracelets: These lines are found on the wrist and they are
different in number in different hands. Some hands even have four
lines.

11. The casual lines: These lines are formed from time to time and
show the bad and good times of a person. They are not permanent and

31
disappear once the momentary influence is over. These lines form in
different places on the palm.

12. The high post line: This line commences form the wrist and is seen
proceeding towards the area of Dragon's tail. If this line is deep and
distinct, the person shall certainly attain a great post in life.

5.1 Quality of the Lines

The quality of all the lines is important because it strengthens or weakens

the functions they represent.

1. A deep, well-defined line (figure 5.1) is an excellent indication.

Figure 5.1: Deep and well-defined line

2. A thin line (figure 5.2) is not defective but does reduce its strength.

Figure 5.2: Thin line

3. A shallow line (figure 5.3) weakens the good qualities.

Figure 5.3: Shallow line

Broken lines (figure 5.4) indicate major problems during the duration of
the break, although the results are not so serious if they overlap.

Figure 5.4: Broken line

5. A chained line (figure 5.5) dissipates its strength and significance.

Figure 5.5: Chained line

6. An island (figure 5.6) indicates problems at the age, which corresponds

with its position on a line.

Figure 5.6: Line with bubble

7. A fragmented line (figure 5.7) is defective.

5.2 Major Lines

5.2.1 Life line

People usually think that the life line would tell how long you would be
able to live. This is not the case, instead of revealing that to you, the life
line would indicate the quality of how you lead your life. It also shows the
amount of vitality, strength and energy you have for life.

• A person who does not have a passion for life often spots a life line that
runs close to the thumb.
• A person passionate about life and who lives life to the maximum often
spot a life line that is curved.
• If the head line is more visible than that of the life line, it indicates that
the person is more mentally active than physically.
• People who have a delicate health often have a chained life line.
• A person with a heart for travel often has life lines that are swinging
outwards.

Life line is considered the most controversial line in palmistry. It starts

from the edge of the palm above the thumb and runs towards the wrist
forming an arc. This line indicates the physical health, vigor and general
wellbeing of the subject. It also represents the changes in life that may be
caused by physical injuries, relocations or cataclysmic events.

The life line represents your vitality and the length of your life. This is the
most important line on your hand and will always be present. The life line
is the easiest to recognize and helps to determine where your other lines
are. Generally if the line swoops down to about an inch above the base of
the palm, then it shows a life expectancy of about 70 years for women and
60-65 for men.

Life line position and direction:

1. Normal - It girdles the mount of Venus at the base of the thumb. It
starts from under the mount of Jupiter and also encircles the lower
mount of mars.
2. Close to the second phalanx of thumb: Childlessness or difficulty in
child bearing
3. A great circle reaching or ending in the mount of Moon: Longevity

Life line character:

1. Length: Shorter the line, shorter the life, the longer the line longer
the life. It is especially concerning, if the line is short in both the
hands.
33
2. Life line color, width and depth:
• No uniformity throughout its course: Uneven state of health,
fickle temperament
• Thin and meager at the center: Bad health at that juncture of
life.
• If a black spot at the termination of line: Sudden death
• Pale and wide: Bad instincts, feeble character and ill health
• Deep and red: Violence, brutality and feverish disposition
• Deep furrow : Violent rapid deterioration of body systems
• Bright livid color: Insanity

Figure 5.8: Life line

Life line malformations:

1. Chained or linked: Delicate constitution, nervous trouble and painful
life
2. Chained or linked under the mount of Jupiter: Bad health in early life
3. Extensively Chained: Skin disease, delicate childhood
4. Line of Head and life separated: Poor eyesight
5. Very Small ladder like formation of life line: Continuous ill health
6. A long life line without the line of Apollo or line of fate: Uneventful but
long life, not much money

1. Special markings on this line indicate specific events which occurred in

your life. The line (figure 5.9) can be divided into three parts to help
judge when certain events occurred or might occur: (1) represents
youth, (2) represents adult and (3) represents old age.

Figure 5.9: Parts of life line

34
2. If the life line is long and deep (figure 5.10), then this represents a long
life full of vitality and health. A short line, if strong and deep, also
shows great vitality in your life and the ability to overcome health
problems. However, if the line is short and shallow, then your life may
have the tendency to be controlled by others.

Figure 5.10: Short and deep life line

3. Extra lines (figure 5.11) are often noted as vitality lines. If your Life
Line is doubled, or even tripled, then this shows a great vitality in your
life, and positive forces around you.

Figure 5.11: Extra line along life line

4. A swooping semicircular line around the base of the thumb (figure

5.12) shows great strength and enthusiasm, as well as an improved
love life.

5. If the line is straight (figure 5.13) and sticks close to the side of your
palm, then this is a sign of a limited exploration of love and a very
cautious nature.

Figure 5.13: Straight life line

6. This type of line extends to the middle of the palm (figure 5.14), away
from the thumb towards the base of the hand. This represents a life
that consists of a lot of traveling.

Figure 5.14: Life line extended to the middle of palm

7. A chained line (figure 5.15) indicates various health problems, both

physical and emotional. Many people with allergies have such a line as
well.

8. A donut (figure 5.16) indicates hospitalization as a result of some sort

of accident.

Can palmistry tell how long I will live from my lifeline?

No, the life line does not foretell length of life, so do not worry if you think
you have a short lifeline! In modern hand reading (chorology) it tells us a
lot about your health, energy and lifestyle. A short line may mean that
you need to use your energy in short bursts with rests in between. More
common than a short line is one which stops and re-starts, usually with
the two lines overlapping for a while; this shows some kind of change in
your lifestyle.

5.3 Case studies of the life line

Case study-1 (figure 5.22):

The constitution was not robust until the age of 35. From then till nearly
60 health was excellent but the person went into a decline for her/his
remaining years.
38
Figure 5.22: Case study

Case study-2 (figure 5.23):

The early life was good but a serious setback in health occurred while the
lifeline was divided into an island from the age of 26 to 38, after which the
person recovered. At about 50 another health problem arose but, because
the ends of the broken lifeline overlap, he recovered. However, her/his
health was never quite as strong again, as shown by the thinner, weaker
quality of the remaining section of the line.

Figure 5.23: Case study

Figure 5.24: Case study

39
Case study-3 (figure 5.24):
The life line appears to be weak, shallow and chained. This normally
would indicate a weak constitution but, because a line of Mars runs
inside and parallel to the lifeline, it supplies the necessary strength and
vitality to counteract the poor quality of the lifeline. The line of Mars is not
found in many hands but, when seen, is a valuable asset for good health.

Case study-4 (figure 5.25): There is a break in the lifeline indicating a

serious health problem from about 38 to 45. However, this break is
protected by a box-like pattern of small lines, making it possible for a
complete recovery.

Figure 5.25: Case study

Case study-5 (figure 5.26): The life line changes its normal direction
from about 43 to 54, showing that some change in the person's lifestyle
affected the health but not adversely so.

5.4 The Head Line

The next in importance is the head line (figure 5.27). It starts at the edge
of the palm just below the index finger and runs across the palm towards
its outer edge. The headline often joins the life line at the inception.

The head line indicates the mental state of the person. Is he interested in
education? Is he communicative and intellectual, creative and analytical?
Contrary to popular beliefs, the head line on a persons palm is often
associated with how a person thinks and not how intelligent they are.
Most head line tends to end some where below the ring finger.

Figure 5.27: The head line

• Short head line: this head line is most commonly found in a person
with thinking that is simple and direct to the point.

• Long head line: most commonly found in people who think and give a
lot of thought before taking action on anything.

• Straight head line: most commonly found in people who values and
practice clear concentrated thinking. They are also happier when
things are handled and solved practically.

• Curved head line: most commonly found in people who like to create
and put into use new ideas. These people tend to be more creative.

• Chained head line: usually found in people who are highly strung
emotionally as well as intellectually.

• Forked head line: a forked head line indicates that the person has the
ability to see more than one point of view.

• Floating head line: usually found in people who have a carefree and
couldn’t care fewer attitudes. They just go about doing whatever they
like, not caring about what other may think of them.
42
Head line position and direction:
• Normal head line of Palmistry: It starts close to, or from the line of life
at its beginning and then rises slightly towards the heart line under
the second finger and then traverses across the palm increasing the
space between them until it terminates.

A good line does not reach the percussion. It almost divides the palm in to
two hemispheres - it indicates a good will power and an above average
intellect.

• Straight and stiff from the line of life to the percussion: Avarice,
selfishness, cleverness in worriedly matters lack of idealism

• Running close to the life line for quite a while: Brain / fever Very close
to Heart line: Asthma

• Sloping towards the Mount of Moon: Imagination coupled with intellect

• Very deep slope in to the Mount of Moon: Exaggerated spiritual

inclinations, superstition, morbidity, nervous trouble Artistic
inclinations deep imagination

• Wavy: Brain disease

• Partly crossing the palm and turning back into the Venus mount:
Cowardice and lack of sustaining energy
Head line character:
Length:
1. Long, straight: Clear commonsense
2. Absence: dull intellect, idiocy
3. Short and clear: Fickleness and flickering nature
4. Long and faintly traced: Lack of concentration

Color, Width and Depth:

1. Thin at the center: Brain trouble or trouble of the nervous system
2. Weak and narrow: Frivolous nature, no will power
Malformation:
1. Wavy, change color: Nervous and miserly nature, lack of sprit
2. Chained or linked: Chronic headaches, no firm purpose in life, lack of
goals

Special markings on this line indicate specific events which occurred in

your life. The line can be divided into three parts (figure 5.28) to help
judge when certain events occurred or might occur: (1) represents youth,
(2) represents adult, (3) represents old age.
43
Figure 5.28: Parts of head line

• If your head line and life line are joined at the beginning (figure 5.29),
this indicates that your strong sense of mind generally rules over your
body. You also look at childhood with a cautious and fearful outlook.
Separated lines show a love for adventure and an enthusiasm for life.

Figure 5.29

• A deep long line (figure 5.30) stretching across the palm indicates a
logical and direct way of thinking. The straighter the line, the more
realistic the thinking, and the deeper the line, the better the memory. If
the line is short however, it tends to indicate limited mental aims, and
the shift towards physical thinking rather than reflection.

Figure 5.30

• If the line (figure 5.31) is wavy then you tend to have a short attention
span, with a lack of deep thinking, however, this does not affect your
intellect.
44
Figure 5.31

• If the line (figure 5.32) is short and curved upwards, then you tend to
have a short attention span, also known as a scatterbrain. A long line
that curves upward represents more of a retentive memory. However if
the line swoops down towards the heel, the person tends to be
imaginative and creative.

Figure 5.32

• Double lines (figure 5.33) show strong mental abilities.

Figure 5.33

• A donut (figure 5.34) or a cross through the Head Line represents a

mental crisis.

45
Figure 5.34

• A broken line (figure 5.35) shows a distinct change in your way of

thinking, sometimes even characteristic of a nervous breakdown.

Figure 5.35

• A star (figure 5.36) on your line represents a significant mental

achievement.

Figure 5.36

Figure 5.37
46
• Crosses (figure 5.37) through the line indicate major decisions in your
life.

• The space (figure 5.38) created between the life line and the dead line
is known as the angle of luck. The greater the space, the greater your
luck. The smaller the space, the less luck seems to stand by your side.

Figure 5.38

5.5 Case studies of the Head line

Case study-1(figure 5.39):

Figure 5.39 shows the head line in its normal position but a branch line
rises from it and goes up to the mount of Jupiter under the index finger.
This person is ambitious to achieve success, greatness or even fame in
mental, artistic or material pursuits. This is a good indication that life
generally will follow an upward course. The direction the headline follows
across the palm is extremely important.

Figure 5.39: Case study – 1

Case Study-2 (figure 5.40):

In figure 5.40 the head line runs straight across toward the Mount of
Mars. This is a sure indication of a practical thinker with the emphasis on
facts, logic and commonsense. Unless the fingertips are pointed, there will
be a lack of imagination, versatility and mental adaptability. Square tips
will make the person even more factual.

47
Figure 5.40: Case study – 2

Case study-3 (figure 5.41):

In figure 5.41 the headline slopes down toward the mount of the Moon.
This indicates a sensitive, impressionable, imaginative person who is not
preoccupied with practical concerns.

Figure 5.41: Case study -3

Case study-4 (figure 5.42):

Figure 5.42 shows the head line drooping too far down on to the mount of
the Moon where it is also broken by chains or islands. In this case there is
too much imagination and the person constantly lives in a world of
fantasy.

Figure 5.42: Case study - 4

Case study-5 (figure 5.43):

48
In figure 5.43 the head line is forked, one part going towards the practical
Mount of Mars, the other to the imaginative mount of the Moon. This
person can see the two sides of any situation and is adaptable, versatile
and broadminded. The stronger, deeper or longer half of the fork will
reveal whether the person is more practical or more imaginative.

Figure 5.43: Case study – 5

Case study-6 (figure 5.44):

If at some point in the headline you see that it veers off course, becomes
shallow or chained or contains an island (see figure), you know that
something had a marked effect on the mind for the duration of the
particular change in the line.

Figure 5.44: Case study -6

5.6 The Heart Line

The line of heart governs our emotional responses and the way they shape
our character and personality. It also indicates the level of vascular health
and in certain circumstances can show hearing and sight defects. The
more curved the heart line appears the more emotionally alert the subject;
the straighter the line, the less flexible the nature. A lightly marked heart
line may indicate a highly sensitive, slightly shy type. Quite often the
heart line is the darkest and most heavily etched line in the hand,
suggesting that subjects obey their emotional instincts despite what the
mind or common sense tells them to do. When this happens, there are
49
often many little influence lines that drop away into the palm toward the
head line. The higher the heart line stays along the top of the palm, the
less this will be so.

How affectionate are you?

Look to the heart line (figure 5.45) to show the depth of understanding
and the affectionate side of our nature. The physical nature of love and
our emotions are shown by the depth that the heart line sinks into the
palm. The higher and straighter the line in the palm, the less physically
expressive the nature. People with low-set heart lines always show depth
of feeling in their dealings with everybody, especially the younger folk.
They are far more in touch with their emotions and much more responsive
than those in the older generations.

Figure 5.45: The heart line

Reading the Heart Line

It has always been accepted that the line starts on the radial side of the
hand where the other two main lines have their beginnings. The heart line
begins on or just under the mount of Jupiter, between the first and
second fingers, or in the skin pattern at the radial edge of the hand just
above the head line. It can also start on the mount of Saturn with a fork
on the mount under the first finger. If the heart line starts high up and
remains there, this suggests an idealist. When the line forks with one
branch from the radial edge and the other from the mount of Jupiter, it
indicates emotional adaptability. Often, when this line does fork a branch
steams from the Saturn mount, with the other form the radial edge, one
line etched a little more strongly than the other. If the stronger branch
originates from the side of the hand, the nature will be proud and honest.
The other way around shows an open and practical outlook and is often
seen on the hands of careers.

Length and density:

It may be thick or thin, long or short, chained or islanded and should
always be free of influence marks except for those that cross it as a matter
of course.

A deeply marked line suggests emotional pressure with attendant health

50
troubles – worry, stress, and strain. But this line can often seem darker
than the other two main lines and what these illnesses are ought to be
confirmed elsewhere in the hand.

A short, straight, high-set heart line implies a cold emotional outlook.

This will be emphasized with a narrow palm. A low-set heart line shows a
passionate character and if the head line is also set low there will be
possessiveness.

The perfect heart line:

The perfect line commences under the first finger and pursues a gently
curving path all the way to the percussion. This indicates a healthy and
reasonably well-balanced nature emotionally. The lower the line dips into
the palm, the more physical that nature will be expressed. The higher
heart line implies a more mental approach.

Islands in the heart line:

An island in the heart line just below the middle finger can suggest
hearing problems, while one under the third finger may reflect sight
troubles. If fond on both hands, these troubles may be emphasized.

Deep and curved heart line:

The deeper the heart line curves or reaches into the palm, the more depth
of feeling there will be. The straighter and higher the line, the more matter
of fact the emotional approach.

Straight heart line:

The straight heart line from one side of the hand to the other is a sure
sign of possessiveness. The lower the line, the more physically
demonstrative the nature; the higher the line, the more idealistic it is in
its expression.

Emotional balance:
When the heart line begins between the first and second fingers, the
nature of the owner will be able to maintain a healthy balance between
idealism and practicality.

Reading the heart line:

When the heart line ends on the outer edge under the mount of Mercury,
more on the mount of Mars, the emotional nature will be selfish, cold, and
unforgiving.

If all three of the main lines are connected at the start it warns of a
traumatic shock to the system – the kind of incident never forgotten and
from which the subject may never recover.

51
A faint heart line suggests a less passionate outlook, people who go
through many affairs more for physical rather than emotional satisfaction.
They are so quite direct, with their feet on the ground, and are self-
protective. Despite this outlook, they are relatively open and friendly until
trouble rears its head, then it’s every man for him- and they are first in
line.

A heart line with a low start, between the thumb and index finger, shows
a possessive nature, emphasized the farther it stretches across the hand.
These folk cannot abide criticism of those whom they trust and it is very
difficult to persuade them otherwise. People with straight heart lies are
not so warm and easy to get along with; they are inhibited and not easily
persuaded. The curved line shows a far more demonstrative nature –
much warmer, more open, and friendly.

Left and right hand:

Significant changes between heart lines in a pair of hands are often noted.
The deeper etched line in the left hand with a more practical line on the
right shows the subject to have been hurt in an earlier relationship. The
reverse of this indicates a sympathetic partner who has drawn the subject
out of his or her shell. If there is little difference, this shows someone with
a contented nature.

Influence lines:
A restless outlook is shown by tiny influence lines that fall away from the
line as it starts. This can be carried to extremes in that the subject might
vary travel arrangements for the sake of change. There will be few really
close friends, but a wide and varied circle of acquaintances. Knowledge
tends to be somewhat superficial; they are jack or jill of all trades who
know a little about many widely differing subjects and take things as they
come.

Health and heart line

Dental, hearing, and sight defects can be found on this line. A little island
in the line under the Saturn finger suggests hearing problems and there
may be a fear of heights. An island on the line under the Apollo finger is
associated with eye or sight defects. Three or four vertical lines just above
the heart line under the Mercury finger may indicate dental troubles.

The heart line deals with all the emotions and events that are centered
around love, whether it be your ability to love, or be loved. In general, the
stronger and deeper the line, the stronger and warmer your devotions.

The heart line is the horizontal line above the head line. It begins beneath
either the index finger or middle finger and extends across to the edge of
the palm on the side of the little finger.
52
• Special markings on this line indicate specific events which occurred in
your life. The line can be divided into three parts (figure 5.46) to help
judge when certain events occurred or might occur: (1) represents
youth, (2) represents adult, (3) represents old age.

Figure 5.46: Parts of heart line

• A normal and content love life is represented by the line that starts
beneath the index finger (figure 5.47).

Figure 5.47

• A selfish and materialistic look at love is characteristic to those whose

heart line start below the middle finger (figure 5.48). A slight disregard
to the true meaning of love and its responsibilities are indicated by the
line that starts between the middle and index finger. The person tends
to easily give their heart away.

Figure 5.48
53
• If the line extends boldly across the entire palm (figure 5.49), then the
person tends to look for those whose status rises above their own, and
has great respect for them. If such a line is very straight and parallel to
the head line, then it shows strong emotional control.

Figure 5.49

• If the line is long and curved (especially upwards) as shown in figure

5.50, then the person has a pleasant, romantic nature, great warmth
in their actions. They may also tend to give all of themselves to love, no
matter the costs.

Figure 5.50

• A short line (figure 5.51) shows a lack of interest in the affairs of love
and affections. However if the short line is also very strong and deep,
then the person's affections tend to be quite stable.

Figure 5.51
54
• A wavy line (figure 5.52), as well as a broken or chained line,
represents many love interests, but none of them very serious.

Figure 5. 52

• A star (figure 5.53) on the line represents happiness in your marriage.

Figure 5.53

• A donut (figure 5.54) on the line represents a time of depression.

Figure 5.54

• Emotional loss may be symbolized by a broken line (figure 5.55), as

well as a line with small lines crossing through it. Such losses include
deaths and the end of relationships.

55
Figure 5.55

• Happiness in love is shown by small lines (figure 5.56) that extend

upward from the heart Line. However, if the lines extend downward,
then it symbolizes a disappointment.

Figure 5.56

• Protection from a loved one is indicated by double lines as shown in

figure 5.57.

Figure 5.57

5.7 Case Studies of Heart Line

Case study-1(figure 58):

In figure 5.58 the heart line begins on the mount of Saturn. This person
does not wear his heart on his sleeve, is reserved or even inhibited about

56
expressing feelings and emotions and is certainly not all that
demonstrative in matters of love.

Figure 5.58: Case study – 1

Case study-2 (figure 5.59):

In figure 5.59 the heart line begins between the Mounts of Jupiter and
Saturn, indicating a person whose attitude to love is neither of the two
previous extremes but is one of moderation. The affections are strong but
he is sensible and unlikely to be foolishly carried away by his feelings,
emotions and sentiments.

Figure 5.59: Case study -2

If the heart line begins with a fork comprising two or even three prongs,
the person's heart is likely to rule his head unless the headline is strong
and straight. If the heart line begins close to or joins the headline, you
can be certain that head will rule heart.

5.8 Line of Sun or Apollo

This is a vertical line in the hand, long or short. If it is long, it starts from
the upper part of the mount of Moon and runs towards the mount of Sun
and generally terminates on the same mount as shown in figure 5.60. If it
is short, it starts high on the hand and ends on the mount of Sun.

57
Figure 5.60: The Sun line

General functions of the Line:

1. It is the line of capability, expressive of the possible accomplishments

in which the subject would excel.

2. It shows sufficient talent and intelligence which may lead to success

and happiness if properly used.

Absence of the line: The subject may work hard, but finds recognition of
the world difficult to gain.

The line of Sun is also known as the line of brilliancy, or the line of
success. It runs parallel to the fate line, under the ring finger. It indicates
fame or scandal. It increases the success given by a good line of fate. It
gives fame and distinction to the life when it is in accordance with the
work and career given by the other lines of hand.

Some of variations of lifeline and its representations are discussed

below:
• A Sun line rising from the line of life, denotes that the life will be devoted
to the worship of the beautiful things.

• A Sun line rising from the line of fate, increases the success promised by
the line of fate, and gives more distinction form whatever date it is
marked.

• A Sun line rising from the mount of Luna, promises success and
distinction, largely dependent upon the fancies and the help of others.

• A Sun line with a sloping line of head indicates success in poetry,

literature, and things of the purely imaginative order.

58
• A Sun line rising upon the plain of Mars, promises success after
difficulty.

• A Sun line rising from the line of head denotes that there is no caprice of
other people in connection with success, the talents of the subject alone
being its factor, but until the second half of the life is reached.

• A Sun line rising from the line of heart denotes a great taste for art and
artistic things.

• A good fate and Sun line parallel to one another with a straight Line of
Head is one of the greatest signs of the acquisition of wealth.

The line of Sun is also known as the line of success or the line of
brilliance. It runs parallel to the fate line but ultimately it ends at the
mount of Sun. It is not present in every hand but whenever it is present,
it gives happiness and achievements. It indicates name and fame. It
increases the power of a good line of fate. It gives fame and distinction to
the life.

Some important TIPS

1. A Sun line rising from the line of life, denotes that the life will revolve
around the beautiful things.
2. A Sun line rising from the line of fate increases the success promised
by the line of fate.
3. A Sun line rising from the mount of Moon promises success and
distinction with the help of others.
4. A Sun line along with a sloping line of head indicates success in
poetry, literature, and other imaginative creations.
5. A Sun line rising from the plain of Mars promises success after
difficulty.
6. A Sun line rising from the line of head denotes that there is no caprice
of other people in connection with success, the talents of the subject
alone being its factor, but until the second half of the life is reached.
7. A Sun line rising from the line of heart denotes an attraction towards
art and artistic things.
8. A good fate line and Sun line parallel to one another with a straight
Line of Head is a signs of the acquisition of wealth.
o An island on Sun line indicates a period where there is a loss of
self-esteem.
o A star on Sun line indicates that a person will win or come into a
substantial lot of money.

This line starts at the base of the hand, and moves its way up to below the
ring finger, running parallel to the line of fate.

• Special markings on this line indicate specific events which occurred in
your life. The line can be divided into three parts (figure 5.61) to help
judge when certain events occurred or might occur: (1) represents

• A strong and clear line (figure 5.62) of fame indicates both distinction
and satisfaction with your life's work.

Figure 5.62

• If the line appears broken (figure 5.63), this is an indication of the ups
and downs of your social recognition.

Figure 5.63

60
• If the line travels to the ring finger (figure 5.64), this indicates fame in
the arts.

Figure 5.64

• Starting at the head line running through the heart line (figure 5.65),
indicates hard work and success late in life. But a fork ending the line
indicates that the success may be dubious in value.

Figure 5.65

• If the line ends beneath the ring finger in a star or triangle (figure

5.9 The Fate Line

It starts from the wrist and goes up crossing the line of head, line of heart
and running opposite to the life line. It indicates into the mount of Saturn
- indicate exceptionally good fortune throughout life. If the fate line runs
into the mount of Mercury it gives success in business endeavors. If it
runs towards the mount of Saturn and curving towards the mount of
Jupiter penetrating it, it gives exceptional fortune and success.

Fate line character:

1. Absence: Insignificant and eventless life. It should be seen in
conjunction with the personal absence of the line of Apollo.
2. Straight and good upwards the heart line: Good fortune in old age,
born out of hard work.

Fate line color, width and depth:

1. Deep red color : Dishonor, disrepute
2. Deep Furrow : Hard effort in occupation, strain of the will power

Fate line malformations:

1. Chained or zigzag formations at the start : Difficult childhood, loss of
money in early life
2. Chained when crossing the heart line : Troubles in Love life, problems
with relationships
3. Wavy : Quarrelsome, fickle disposition, lack of purpose

Palmistry says that there are seven varieties of fate lines which have
separate influences on an individual.

1. Deep fate line: Deep fate line in a native’s palms indicate that s/he
may achieve paternal wealth and other profits from various means.
Elderly persons will help enhance the success of the individual.

2. Light fate line: A native with a light fate line in her/his hands means
that s/he may have to undergo failures and difficulties in life. Due to
unsuccessful attempts in her/his life s/he may often feel hopelessness.
But a strong Sun line in the native’s hand will provide her/him success.
In this way presence of other lines and mounts may also alter the results.

3. Divided fate line: According to palmistry if the fate line splits into two
parts and create a ‘y’ shaped structure in a native’s palm then it indicates
that the person may suffer from confusion and contradiction. S/he may
be indecisive as her/his fate lines may not let her/him make a strong
decision and stand by it. In short it can be said that s/he may be riding
on two boats at a time.

62
4. Zig-zag fate line: Zig zag fate line in a hand suggest that a native may
experience many ups and downs in his/her life. S/he can attain success
only after defeating the problems and conflicts in her/his life. The native
may not get the fruits of her/his efforts easily. This type of fate line also
says that at crucial times of decision making the native’s thoughts may
become vacillating.

5. Broken fate line: Broken fate line in a native’s hand indicates a

danger. A breakage in a fate line means the native may face an accident
at a certain point of time. The accident may cause physical damage or
may even put the native’s life in danger. Natives who have a broken fate
line should be very careful.

6. Chained fate line: A native may face many ups and downs in his life if
the fate line is chained in his palm. S/he might swing between failure and
success. S/he may successfully carry out a task and may sometimes face
immense problems doing a simple task!

7. Invisible fate line: Palmistry says that every people has a fate whether
the fate line is visible or not. The natives who do not have visible fate line
can get information about their future by considering other lines of the
palm. So, there is no need to worry for those who do not have visible fate
line. The fate line, also known as the line of destiny, tells the effect society
and world events have upon your life (things that come to you from
outside). The stronger and deeper the line, the more strongly fate controls
your life. If the line has many breaks or changes of direction, it means
that you are prone to many changes in your life from circumstances you
canot control.

This line begins in the middle of the palm, near the wrist, and runs
towards the base of the middle finger.
• Special markings on this line indicate specific events which occurred in
your life. The line can be divided into three parts (figure 5.67) to help
judge when certain events occurred or might occur: (1) represents
youth, (2) represents adult, (3) represents old age.

Figure 5.67: Parts of the fate line

63
• If the fate line starts joined to the life line (figure 5.68), it indicates that
you are a self-made individual. Often you will know very early in life
just what your life's aspirations are.

Figure 5.68

• If your fate line starts clearly and at the wrist (figure 5.69), but joins
the life line, this indicates a point where you have to surrender your
own interests to those of other people. If the late line separates again
from the life line, it indicates that you are now in control of your life
again.

Figure 5.69

• If your fate line starts on the base of your thumb (figure 5.70), inside
your life line's curve, it indicates a point where family or close friends
are supportive of you.

Figure 5.70

64
• If your fate line starts at the base of your palm (figure 5.71), this
indicates that your life will find its way into the public eye. You may
rise from obscurity to be a politician, or an entertainer.

Figure 5.71

• If a break occurs in your fate line at the head line and goes on (figure
5.72), this indicates that you will successfully change your job in your
middle years.

Figure 5.72

• A star at the end of the fate line (figure 5.73) indicates that destiny has
marked you for success. 1: If the line with a star ends under the index
finger, you will find fame in non-creative fields. 2: If the starred line
ends under the middle finger, you will see success after ten years of
hard work. 3: If the line ends under the ring finger, you will find
success in the creative arts field.

Figure 5.73
65
• Islands and breaks in your fate line show periods (figure 5.74) where
your life will not flow so smoothly. Fate has some trouble in store for
you.

Figure 5.74

• Lines that cross the fate line foreshadow (figure 5.75) times where your
destiny is opposed by others.

Figure 5.75

5.10 The Health or Mercury Line

This line originates under the little finger; the health line goes across the
palm towards the bottom of the thumb. As per the science of palmistry,
the health line (figure 5.76) denotes the health of an individual.
Interestingly, there is no permanent place of its source. This line could
begin from the mount of mars or from life line or from the centre of the
palm or from any other place, but it must be kept in mind that this line
always ends at the mount of mercury and thus, this line is known as the
health line

According to palmistry science, this line differs from individual to

individual. This line is very thick in some hands while on others it’s
thinner than hair. This line must be studied with great care as illness,
health etc. of an individual are studied with its assistance. It has been
determined that the health line does not have an exact ending point. The

66
study of this line reveals the health of an individual and any illness which
he/she might have experienced or is expected to experience.

Figure 5.76: The health line

Some individuals might have profound and wide health lines and might
possess lean health lines on the other hand. The firm and clear health
line is the insinuation of good health of an individual. A broken health
line at any point depicts bad health and additionally, if this line is broken
in several places, it signifies serious and continuous sickness. As per the
practitioners of palmistry, the nonappearance of health line on the palm is
the nuance of an outstanding state of health, strong nervous system and
healthy constitution.

As per the practitioners of palmistry, the health line deals with the
material well being as much as the physical well being of an individual.
This line is responsible in playing a strong part in the growth of material
wealth also. It has also been said in palmistry that the straighter the
health line is, the healthier the health remains. The uneven and warped
line is a sign of liver complains. Heavily marked health line which joins
the line of heart and head and not found elsewhere is a sign of mental
disturbance.

As per palmistry, health line could be an indication of strong business

intelligence as well as the strength to work hard and to make money when
it’s found as an uninterrupted line. Moreover, palmistry suggests that
depending on the depth and shape of the health line, the insight of the
health problem differs like curly health line defines possible health
problems as a result of worry and a broken line tends to illustrate poor
health which would create problem in business. When this line mounts
from the line of heart at the mount of mercury and runs into or through
the line of life, it predicts weakness of the heart.

In palmistry, the complete analysis of health line considers the

interpretation and indications of other lines also, like when the life line
looks very weak and chained, the health line on a hand would apparently
67
increase the risk of health and when found with head line full of small
islands or like a chain, it obviously depicts severe headaches, brain
disease, etc. This line along with several other lines is studied deeply to
get accurateness in the study.

The health Line deals with the material well being as much as the
physical. This is especially so when the life line may be missing or faint. If
a person has very faint fate, fame and success lines, then the Health Line
also plays a strong part in the development of material wealth.

The Health Line can be found extending from below the little finger, down
across the palm, to the base of the thumb. Sometimes it may even join
with the Life Line.

• If the line is missing, it indicates no health problems. Generally

however, the line can be divided into three parts (figure 5.77) to help
judge when certain health problems might occur: The top (1)
represents youth, the middle (2) represents adult, the bottom (3)
represents old age.

Figure 5.77: Parts of health line

• If the line is strong and undisturbed (figure 78), then you tend to have
a strong business sense as well as the strength to work hard to make
money.

Figure 5.78

68
• Wavy lines (figure 5.79) show potential health problems as a result of
anxiety and nervousness.

Figure 5.79

• A broken line (figure 5.80), tends to show that poor health will create
problems in your business situations.

Figure 5.80

• If the line is crossed (Figure 5.81), then you tend to be prone to

accidents.

Figure 5.81

• If there is an extra line that branches out onto the life line (figure 5.82), then
there may be some sort of life-threatening situation in your old age.

69
Figure 5.82

• If a square appears on the line (figure 5.83), it is a sign of protection,

whether it be in the form of good medical treatment, or aid in solving a
business problem.

Figure 5.83

• A donut on the line (figure 5.84) indicates a potential need for

hospitalization

Figure 5.84

• Because they are closely related, the triangle (figure 5.85) formed by
the life, head and health Lines are considered very important. This is
known as The Lucky Triangle, where the broader the area of the
triangle, the greater your luck.

70
Figure 5.85

5.10 The Marriage Line

Palm does not recognize the mere fact of a ceremony. It only indicates the
influence of different people over our lives, what kind of influence they
have had, the effect produced, and that is in accordance with such
influences.

Figure 5.86: The marriage line

Marriage line (figure 5.86) is balanced by marks on the other portion of

the palm. A wealthy union is shown by a strong, well marked line from
the side of the line of fate next Moon, running up and joining the line of
fate. When line of marriage sends an off-shoot on to the mount of Sun and
into the line of Sun, it indicates the person will marry someone of
distinction, and become famous. When the marriage line divided at the
end into a dropping fork sloping towards the centre of the palm, it

71
indicates of divorce or a judicial separation. When a deep line from the
top of the mount grows downward and cuts the line of marriage, it
indicates a great obstacle & opposition of that marriage.

Position and Direction: Normal marriage line cuts the percussion

horizontally on the side of the hand between the line of heart and the base
of the fourth finger penetrating slightly into the mount of mercury as
shown in figure 5.87. You can assess at what age a mild, moderate or
deep love affair will occur by locating the position of faint, medium or deep
lines on the time scale, as shown in figure below.

Figure 5.87
Length:
1. Longer line: Longer the relationship
2. Sloping towards the heart line: Death of the partner
3. Gradual slope towards heart line: Spouse will die after lingering illness
4. Curving upwards: Subject could remain single
5. The proximity to the heart line indicates the age of marriage, nearer to
the heart line, the earlier the marriage.
6. Nearest the midpoint between the base of the fourth finger and the
heart line: Late marriage.

Marriage Line Color, Width and Depth

1. Deep color: Better the relationship. However the line should not be too
deep or too wide as it indicates a strain in the relationship and a
dwindling of affection.
2. Moderately deep furrow: Indicates a legal union.

Marriage Line Malformation:

1. Broken : Separation or divorce
2. Broken but overlaying fragments: Separation followed by reunion.
Sometimes a second marriage between the two is indicated
3. Too many lines crossing the palm all over : A wife leading her husband
for evil purposes

72
A line that cuts off the marriage line at the end indicates the end of the
marriage in death or divorce. A fork on the end of the marriage line,
toward the palm, indicates separation (with or without divorce). If the
marriage line breaks, then resumes with an overlap, this indicates a
separation, and later, reunion.

Lines that meet the marriage line, but do not cross it, indicate children
that will be born into the marriage. If the marriage line is full of little
islands and forks, it indicates unhappiness in marriage for that particular
period of time. When a deep line from the top of the mount grows
downwards and cuts the line of marriage, there will be a great obstacle
and opposition to that marriage
Marriage is indicated by the little line (or lines) that are located just below
the base of the little finger. Several light lines in this area will indicate
romances. The lines that are strong and clear in this area will indicate
marriage. The closer the lines are to the base of the little finger, the later
in life these marriages will be.

• The presence of more that one line in this area indicates more than one
marriage (Figure 5.88). The line 1 will be the first marriage and the line
2 will be the second marriage.

Figure 5.88

• Lines that meet the marriage line, but do not cross it (figure 5.89),
indicate children that will be born into the marriage.

Figure 5.89

73
• A line with a fork at the start (figure 5.90), toward the back of the
hand, indicates a long engagement.

Figure 5.90

• A fork (figure 5.91) on the end of the marriage line, toward the palm,
indicates separation (with or without divorce).

Figure 5.91

• A line that cuts off the marriage line (figure 5.92) at the end indicates
the end of the marriage in death or divorce.

Figure 5.92

• The overlapping of lines (figure 5.93) indicates an affair, or affairs,

while one is married.

74
Figure 5.93

• If the marriage line breaks (figure 5.94), then resumes with an overlap,
this indicates a separation, and later reunion.

Figure 5.94

Marriage lines are the horizontal lines on the mount of Mercury below
little finger. Marriage is also indicated by influence lines by the side of the
fate line and by the side of the life line.

Long lines: denote marriage

Short lines: Relationships or contemplation of marriage

Age of marriage: Line close to Heart Line: 14 to 21

Centre of mount: 21 to 28

Three quarters up the mount: 28-35

Exact date will be found on the fate line or on the life line.

Wealthy union: A strong well marked line from the side of Fate line next
Luna running up and joining the fate line plus well marked marriage line
on Mercury

75
Line of influence stronger than the fate line: The person the subject
marries will have greater power and individuality

When line of influence rises first on Luna and runs up and into the
fate line: Marriage will be more capricious than real affection.

Happiest marriage: Influence line lies close to Fate line and runs evenly
with it.

Marriage line curves down: The person whom the subject marries liable
to die first.

Line curves up: Marriage unlikely for ever

Fine hair lines dropping down from Line towards the heart line:
Trouble due to illness of person whom the subject marries.

Line droops with a cross over the curve: Accident or sudden death of
the person whom the subject marries.

Island on the line: Trouble in married life and separation

Fork on the line at end sloping towards centre of hand: Divorce.

Line full of islands and drooping lines or forked: Signs of unhappiness

in marriage

Break in Line: Sudden break in married life

Marriage line sends an offshoot to mount of Sun and into the line of
Sun: Marriage with a famous person.

Line goes down and cuts Line of Sun: Loss of position through Marriage

Deep line from top of mount cuts line: Great obstacle and opposition to
Marriage

Fine line running parallel to the marriage line: Deep affection after
marriage.

Children:
Indicated by small vertical lines on top of the marriage line or crossing it.

Broad line: Male child

76
Fine and narrow line: female child

Island on the line: delicate health

One line longer and superior: child will be important to parents than
others

Normally the lines are found on the hands of women. If found on men, the
parent is fond of children.

There is an element of uncertainty with regard to lines of marriage and

children due to changing concepts in modern times. The lines may
indicate just relationships instead of marriage and pets instead of
children.
3.11 The Minor Lines

1. The ring of Solomon or Jupiter

Normal position of the ring of Solomon (figure 5.95) is a small line
appearing as a semi-circle, embracing the mount of Jupiter and ending
near the beginning of the life line.

Figure 5.95: The ring of Jupiter

General functions of the ring of Jupiter:

1. It indicates a love and flair for occult sciences
2. It suggests spiritual help from one who is deeply involved in
spirituality.

Absence of the Line: No special significance

This sign is the symbolization of occultism and mysticism; possibly in this

case qualities of the ring will be influenced by Jupiter.
• Straight ring of Jupiter gives logic and practicability in the field of
occult sciences.
• Curved ring induces emotions in the application of mysticism in day to
day life by the bearer.
77
• This ring, in some people inculcates intense psychic and spiritual
powers.
• Ring of Jupiter in some people is the reflection of romanticism and
ideality.

The ring of Jupiter, found on that mount at the base of the forefinger, is
also called the ring of Jupiter. Like Jupiter, the leader of Roman gods, and
Solomon, the Biblical king, those who have this sign are leaders, persons
in authority. At the same time, they are wise and understanding people,
no matter what their age. If you have this marking, you are a judicious
ruler and a respected and honorable leader.

2. The line of Mars

The usual starting point of this line is the lower mount of Mars as shown
in figure 5.96. It runs inside the life line and very close beside it.

Figure 5.96: The line of Mars

Function of Mars line

By and large it supplements the functions of the life line. If the Mars line
runs close and parallel to the life line on the lower mount of Mars and the
mount of Venus. It corrects many of the breaks and defects in the life line.
It represents the vital force in man which offers greater power of
resistance to withstand any disease, nervous debility or unexpected
shock.

Characteristic features of the Mars line

Deep or broad: A sign of great heat, violence and sexual passions.

78
Sister lines running parallel inside the mount of Venus: Influence of
other people over the life of the subject.

Terminating in a fork: Super abundance of the animal nature -

intemperance of every kind.

Terminating in a fork one prong of which enters the mount of Moon

and ends in a star: Alcoholic intemperance

3. The ring of Saturn

This line rises between the fingers of Jupiter and Saturn (figure 5.97). It
encircles the finger of Saturn and terminates between the finger of Saturn
and Apollo.

Figure 5.97: The ring of Sun

General functions of the Ring of Saturn:

1. It shows an impulsive disposition in matters pertaining to occupation
or choice of career.

2. It indicates want of continuity of purpose.

Absence of the Line: No special significance.

The middle finger, also known as the Saturn finger, may also have a ring,
but Saturn rings are not as common. The reading for this ring is very
different. While Jupiter signifies leadership, Saturn represents
seriousness and dedication, so a ring here shows a serious and unlovely
nature, and perhaps even a morose one. The deeper and more complete
this ring, the more it shows a depressive and ponderous personality.

If you have a ring of Saturn, take a look at your head line. If it slopes
down to the mount of Luna, you have a good imagination. More than
likely, it will manifest itself in dramatic tendencies. Who knows? Perhaps
you're a natural actor! If you have a ring of Saturn and your fate line has
a negative mark, such as a cross or star, you may ruin your career by not
79
paying enough attention to it. If your ring is made of two lines that cross
each other on the Saturn mount, you have a tendency to depression and
self-destruction.

4. The ring of Sun

This ring (figure 5.98) indicates about a person’s desire for name and
fame and it makes a person a leader or head of the organization. It also
relates to intelligence. Long Ring Finger denotes creative nature. Such
people go well in the field of fashion designing and Arts. Long finger also
denotes about risk taking habits such as gambling or speculative
tendencies of a person. Long Ring finger will be considered only when it is
longer than index finger.

Figure 5.98: The ring of Sun

A person with small ring finger does not desire for fame and ostentation
and does not take any risk. Such fingers i.e. short ring fingers are rarely
found. While the other rings tend to highlight the virtues associated with
their fingers, the ring of Apollo, a rare mark, acts in just the opposite
fashion — it seems to form a barrier to the gifts of Apollo, which are
aesthetic expression and a sunny nature. The ring of Apollo indicates a
blockage of creativity and potential for sadness or depression.

5. The Girdle of Venus

Venus does not have her own finger, but she does have a mount — and a
girdle. The girdle of Venus as shown in figure 5.99 does not appear very
often; its shape is a half-circle that runs from the outsides of the Apollo
and Saturn mounts.

Figure 5.99: The girdle of Venus

80
Named after the beautiful goddess of love, both the mount of Venus and
the Venus girdle are indicative of your sensibility in love and sensuality,
though of course they have many other interpretations in palmistry. This
is partly because in the past, sexuality was sometimes seen as a negative
attribute. Traditional practitioners often saw an interest in sexual matters
as a sign of immoral living and lascivious behavior, or even as an
indicator of sexual violence. However, palmists now know that the girdle
of Venus is usually seen on fire and water hands, which are more
sensitive and vulnerable to emotional reactions to life.

Broken Lines, Broken Hearts

A strong and healthy girdle of Venus correlates to a strong and healthy
sensuality and wholesome emotions. It can also indicate a deep aesthetic
sense and love for art and beauty, whether it is found in another person
or in artwork. Persons with a girdle of Venus can be poets, writers, or
artists.

However, a broken line can mean a fragmented sense of love, with too
many flirtations and fickleness and too little devotion to the love object. It
can also mean too much sensitivity, an inability to control the emotions,
depression, or constant upheavals. If the girdle of Venus cuts through a
good strong marriage line, there may be hysteria, an inability to balance
emotion with any form of reason, and propensity toward addiction to and
over-reliance on antidepressants.

More than one girdle of Venus can mean a greater likelihood of a life of
vice and depravity. Granted, sensuality is generally seen today as a good
thing, but there are limits to everything. This is especially true if the lines
are broken or chained. If the girdle of Venus crosses the fate line or line of
Apollo and overwhelms them in appearance, be warned. There may be a
loss of fortune or status, and this may be caused by someone you love.

This generally exists in the form of a semi-circle rising between the first
and second fingers, and ends between the third and fourth.

General functions of the Girdle of Venus:

1. It adds to the power of the line of heart

2. It indicates the high-strung disposition, nervous temperament of an

individual.

Formed as a single deep line as shown in figure 5.100 adds to the power
of the heart Line - passion within control.

Figure 5.106

6. The Moon line or line of Luna

This line starts from the bracelet or the mount of moon and reaches the
regions of Mercury in the farm of a bow (figure 5.107). According to the art
of palmistry this line is considered very important on a person's palm.
This line indicates the ability of intuition.

Figure 5.107: The line of Moon

The individuals having the line of Moon are found to have a very good
career line. In spite of being a lowborn and leading an ordinary life, such
persons are able to reach to the height of their career. Sometimes they
become presidents or commanders-in-chief due to the influence of the
Line of the Moon. Such persons often are found to be an important name
in the nation. Such persons with the line of Moon on the palm have
dangers from a voyage. According to the palmists, such individuals should
avoid the voyages. Sometimes while swimming they face death-like
hindrances due to the ill effects of the line of Moon. But such individuals
are simple, gentle and sober type. Their personality is captivating and
they have even the capacity to enchant their enemies. Such persons
always help others and if some one ever does them any good they remain
grateful to him forever.

84
Such persons are socially responsible and have the exceptional capability
to give right guidance and direction to the country and the society at the
time of crisis. Thus the line of Moon not only points to the intuitive aspect
of the individual, but also indicates to the shining career and bright
future of the individual. According to the study of palmistry the line of
Moon is extensively important in the life of any individual.

7. The line of influence

These lines originate from the base of the thumb, and radiate out into the
palm as shown in figure 5.108. Where they connect with other lines they
illustrate an important event. The most sought after influence lines are
the ones that show how and where you will come into money. The parallel
lines (figure 5.109) to the line of influence take on a variety of meanings,
which can best be explored by looking at the effect on the major line with
which they merge. If the line of influence runs parallel with the line you
are studying, it serves to strengthen that line at its weakest points,
repairing a break or serving as a companion line in times of strife.

Figure 5.108: The line of influence

Figure 5.109

The line of influence that end in a star (figure 5.110) show that the
influence is over. A line from a star at the end of a line of influence that
cuts past the life line means that a close relative will die at about that
time on the life line.

85
Figure 5.110

Lines that run perpendicular (figure 5.110) to the line of influence serve to
bar the path and show obstacles, problems, and trials. If these lines form
a widened area like a dot, there will be a major problem, and you should
look to see if the section following on the line indicates an island or break.

8. The Travel Line

The travel line as shown in figure 5.111 is the indicator of the trips taken
throughout the life. The travel lines start from the edge of the palm at the
heel, opposite the thumb, and extend horizontally.

Figure 5.111: The travel line

If a travel line intersects with the life line, then a trip will be made under
circumstances of health, or your health will be affected by a trip. Lines
that cross the travel Line indicate danger, or problems with in travel.
Square on travel lines is a sign of protection in travels. Fish sign on Luna
Mount is very fortunate sing for fruitful travel. Breaks in the lines indicate
a delay in travels. If a travel line intersects the fate line, this is an

86
indication that the travels will present a life-changing experience. When
travel line crosses the hand and enters the mount of Jupiter, great
position and power will be gained by it, and the journey will also be
extremely long. When travel Line runs to mount of Sun, it promises riches
and fame. When travel line reached mount of Mercury, sudden and
unexpected wealth will arise from it. If the travel line runs into the line of
head and causes a spot, island, or break, it foretells some danger to the
head from journey.

General function of the Lines:

1. These Lines indicate the restless disposition of the subject or any
allergy that he might have developed because of delicate health.

2. They may also indicate travels and voyages of the subject.

Nature of the Lines:

When the travel line ends with a small cross as shown in figure 5.112, the
journey will end in disappointment.

Figure 5.112

When the travel line ends in a square as shown in figure 5.113, the
subject is protected from danger during the journey.

shown in figure 5.116, the journey benefits the subject.

9. Lines of Children
These Lines appear vertically from the end of the line of marriage as
shown in figure 5.117.

10. The Rescette or Bracelet Lines

These lines are the horizontal lines or curves separating the palm from the
arm at the wrist as shown in figure 5.123. They vary in number from one
to three or even more.

General functions of the Lines: They indicate the longevity of the

person, in particular.

11. The casual lines
There are some types of lines which may appear on your hands. These
lines are generally called casual lines. These casual lines on the palm
appear and disappear time by time, and give effect accordingly. The
casual lines are those lines which are formed on the palm from time to
time and show the good and bad results. These lines are not permanent
but these disappear when their momentary influence are over. These lines
can be formed at any place on the palm, and disappear after having been
formed. These lines do not have long term effect on any individual as it
appears and disappears according to your Karma and affects according to
the Karma.

So while observing any hand does observe carefully, because they might
be temporary lines, which may be affecting the native for short duration,
or for some occasions.

12. The high post line

The line of high post as shown in figure 5.127 which commences from the
wrist and is seen proceeding towards the area of dragon's tail. If this line
is deep and distinct, the person will certainly attain some high post in
his/her society and work.

Figure 5.127: The high post line

5.12 The Family Rings

A ring around the base of the thumb represents family loyalty as shown in
figure 5.128. The stronger the line, the more you care about your family,
and any interfering lines mean interference from a family member. If there
is a second line here, it means a second family, perhaps by a second
marriage or by adoption.

THE TIMING

Timing can be derived from the lines of the palm if the guidelines are
understood. Since relationships along the lines of the palm are not linear,
reference points must be found to improve accuracy. The best accuracy
that will ever be accomplished is +/- 2 years. Time begins at the point of
origin of a line, which for the life and head lines is at the top edge of the
hand (thumb side); for the heart line is on the opposite (Moon) edge; and
for the lines of success, destiny, and health are from the base of the palm
at the first line of the wrist. Although each line covers the entire life, it is
best to begin with the approximations shown in figure 6.1. The lines are
estimated to run from 0 to 80 years. The division between the first and
second fingers is approximately age 20 on the life and head Lines. Age 20
is approximately between the third and little fingers along the heart Line.

Figure 6.1: The time lines (Note: The numbers in the illustration are only
approximations).

The way to find the correct time is to look for an event that is already
known. For example, find a mark along the line that represents a known
event, such as a traumatic experience. Then use the known event as a
reference to extrapolate forward and backward. For example, if a known
event happened at the age 25, then the distance from 0 to that event is 25
years, regardless of how long the line is. Then if another known event
happened 10 years later, use the new scale for measuring age between

93
ages 25 and 35. The scale is not linear, but when known events are
found, then timing can be derived with some accuracy.

6.1 Timing of Lines of Success, Destiny, and Body

Time along the lines of success, destiny, and the body (figure 6.2) begin at
the wrist line at the base of the palm. The line of destiny crosses the head
line at approximately age 35 and crosses the Heart Line at approximately
age 50. The lines of success and the body are measured similarly.
However, for a steeply sloping the head line or double headlines, age 35 is
better taken to be the point in the center of the hand where the extension
of the beginning of the life line crosses the destiny line.

Figure 6.2: Timing of lines of success, destiny, and body

When a line crosses another line, there are two possible times. For
example, when the line of destiny crosses the head line at age 35, the
measurement along the head line will be different. Both measurements
are right because they refer to two different things. The time along the
destiny line is related to destiny, whereas, the time measured along the
head line is related to authority. The destiny line crossing the head line
may represent an authority problem along the head line. The authority
problem related to destiny may reveal the age of the right man, for
example, while the age along the destiny line may reveal the age of the
right woman, who caused the authority problem.

6.2 Timing of Travel Lines

Travel lines are located along the lunar edge of the palm. These lines
represent significant trips that a person made. Time is measured from
the wrist ring at the base of the palm. Age 60 is approximately where the
head line would cross the lunar edge of the palm. This area is called the
mount of defense. Age 80 is approximately at the origin of the heart line.
The illustration shows a travel line at age 29. The calculation is 29 = (t/d)
94
x 60, where t is the distance from the base of the palm to the travel line,
and d is the distance from the base of the palm to the extension of the
head line.

6.3 The Marriage Lines

The marriage lines are located beneath the base of the little finger on the
lunar side of the palm. The marriage lines represent the right man - right
woman relationship and other intimate relationships, but not necessarily
marriage. If there is a marriage, the marriage line will be long and
marriage will represented elsewhere on the palm, such as a line of
influence joining the line of destiny. A marriage line should be straight,
pink, well-etched, and without problematic markings such as spots,
breaks, or drooping shoots.

Figure 6.3: Lines of marriage

The right man - right woman relationship is often represented by two

marriage lines that send out shoots that grow together. Shoots that grow
upward symbolize a happy marriage. The shoots are analogous to
passing the testing for marriage, e.g. identification and compatibility
testing. The shoots represent the growth of a person who is being
prepared for a successful marriage. When the left and right hands are
placed side-by-side, it may be noticed that the marriage Lines on one
hand are the mirror image of those on the other. For example, a bold and
a light marriage line on one hand will mirror a light and a bold marriage
line on the other hand. This is another sign of right man - right woman
because the right woman is the reflected glory of the right man. The right
(dominant) hand represents the man and the left (helper) hand represents
the woman.

An actual marriage is usually indicated by an influence line that begins

on the feminine mount and joins the destiny line as shown in the
illustration. If the influence line joins the destiny line, it signifies a close
union. If the line causes the destiny line to stop and move over into it, it
95
signifies a person (usually the woman) moving in with her husband. If the
line overshoots the gestiny line and continues, it signifies two people who
are going down parallel paths in life. They may or may not be married.

6.4 Timing of Marriage

Timing of marriage is best accomplished along the destiny line as shown

in the illustration. The location where the influence line from the
feminine mount joins the destiny line at Age 26 is the time of marriage.

Timing may also be discerned from the marriage lines but the meaning
may be unique to the individual. And if the individual has not yet
identified the right man or right woman, the timing may be meaningless
to the person, who has no basis for understanding the timeline anyway.
Now, if there are 3 lines on one hand and 2 on the other hand, that will be
a total of 5 different ages. The ages of right man and right woman when
they met will likely be 2 of the 5. The other 3 numbers may be more
difficult to understand, but they will add validity to the couple.

To measure the time of marriage lines, the point of origin is taken as the
outside edge of the palm. The lines may descend on the back of the hand
and rise on the palm, but the place to measure is along the edge of the
palm. The heart line is taken as zero and the line at the base of the little
finger is approximately 60 years. The line at the base of the little finger
may also rise upward, and it is usually best to take the point near the
center of the base of the little finger as the 60 year point. In other words,
it is best to err with the longer distance than the shorter. The illustration
shows the bottom Marriage Line at age 26. The calculation is 26 = (m/d)
x 60, were m is the distance from the heart line to the marriage line and d
is the distance from the heart line to the base of the little finger.

For the purpose of timing, the right hand (or dominant hand) represents
the person being analyzed and the other hand represents the soul mate.
The right hand of a right-handed woman represents herself, and the other
hand represents her right man. Similarly, the right hand of a right-
handed man represents himself, and the other hand represents his Right
Woman. This means the ages on the dominant right hand should refer to
the person being analyzed, and the ages on the other hand should
represent the soul mate. For left handed people, it is opposite. Also, bear
in mind that time can also be derived from other lines, such as influence
line and the line of destiny.

A marriage line that is near the heart line and extends on the back of the
hand near the extension of the heart line represents a relationship early
in life at or before the early 20's. A marriage line half way between the
heart line and base of the little finger represents a relationship in the

96
30's. And a line 3/4 of the distance between the heart line and the base
of the little finger would represent a relationship in the 40's.

THE PLANET LINES

The three lines of influence that run vertically along the palm's length
(from the wrist up to the fingers) are the Mercury line, Mars line, and
Apollo line. They begin in the lower area of the palm, sometimes as far
down as the wrist, and end at the top of the hand in or near the upper
mounts below the fingers. These lines are named after the finger mount in
which it has its ending. Here is how to read these lines.

Figure 7.1: The planet lines

7.1 The Line of Mercury

Of all the secondary lines, the Mercury line (figure 7.2) is the most often
found among the general population. The line may begin on the mount of
98
Lunar or Venus (or in between the two) and generally runs upward to the
mount of Mercury.

Figure 7.2: The line of Mercury

A strong and deep Mercury line indicates good business sense. However,
Mercury is generally known as a health line. In fact, at one time it was
called the hepatica line, named from the Latin word for liver, because it
was an indicator of poor health and especially of liver ailments.

If your Mercury line crosses the life line, you either have a deep interest in
learning about health matters, you work in a health-care profession, or
are involved in healing in some other way, be it spiritual or psychological.

If the Mercury line begins in the mount of Venus, you can use it to judge
the state of your health. It gets deeper when one is in poor health or worn
out and vulnerable, but decreases in prominence when health issues are
addressed successfully. A Mercury line that is broken or chained shows
periods of ill health, either for the owner of the palm or else for someone
for whom the owner cares.

If the Mercury line begins in the mount of Luna or if it originates in the

life line, you have the intuitiveness and insight to be successful in
business or as a business leader.

7.2 The Line of Mars

Mars is the god of war, and a line with his name will run alongside the life
line on the thumb side. It may be short or long — in either case, its
appearance indicates extra strength and protection to the person's life.
This is especially important if there are breaks or other weaknesses on the
life line. The Mars line (figure 7.3) gives added energy and endurance so
the person can overcome health problems that are seen on the life line. A
Mars line can also symbolize a good strong friend that will stand up for
you and aid you in times of trouble — a true companion and lifelong ally.

99
Figure 7.3: The line of Mars

If the line of Mars ends on the Lunar mount with a cross, star, or other
very definitive ending, death may be the result of drug or alcohol abuse. If
at the same time the head line ends in a star, expect a mental breakdown.

7.3 The Line of Apollo

Apollo is not really a planet — it represents the Sun, but it nevertheless

belongs in the heavenly band that has a representative in the vertical
lines of the palm. The Apollo line (figure 7.4) generally begins from the
Luna mount but may originate elsewhere, and it traverses the palm to the
mount of Apollo.

Figure 7.4: The line of Apollo

The Apollo line can be irregular or strong, but its presence is a good
indicator of the overall success of life. A stronger line signifies reaching a
goal; a weaker one shows the problems encountered along the way. If it
begins at the fate line, it means that that is where your successes began.
Apollo lines are usually an indicator of individual, not group, success.

If the line begins late on the hand, it may mean that success has been
delayed until that point. If it is missing entirely, it may mean that you
place little importance on worldly success, or it may mean that you do not
believe you can achieve your goals and have given up.

100
Because Apollo is also the god of music and art, the line of Apollo may
represent creative ability. However, if there are two or more lines, you may
have too many talents to be able to master any of them.

Beyond the major vertical lines of Mercury, Mars, and Apollo, there are
others of great importance. You may not have them, but if you do, it tells
a great deal about you and how you will live your life.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE AGE OF A PERSON

USING PALMISTRY

The thumb is the most important and vital part on the human’s body.
Even the modern medical science has proved that there is a “Thumb
Centre” in the human brain. The thumb plays an important role in the
daily life of a human being. No person can do any work properly and
efficiently without using the thumb. It is also a known fact that a child
takes birth in this world with his thumb lying on the palm inside the
fingers on both the hands. It has also been noticed by the Gynecologists,
Pediatricians and the mothers of the child, that after seven days, the
thumb comes out of the fingers and the child starts sucking it. This
indicates that the brain of the child has started functioning properly. It
has also been observed that when a person is seriously ill, first, the
thumb loses its power and falls on the palm before the person is dead.
Thus, it is more scientific and logical for calculating time and date of the
events taking place in human life. It was named “Subodh – Method”, after
its inventor. This method proved to be more accurate than any other
method, in telling the past and future of people.

Figure 8.1: The Subodh – Method to calculate the age of a person

102
8.1 Step-by- Step Procedure

Step-1: Find out the centre point of the nail phalange of the thumb. It is
very easy. There are a few patterns of the skin texture lines on the thumb,
fingers, and the palm. The impressions of the thumb and fingers are also
taken for identification of a person. These patterns are as shown in the
diagrams A, B & C. The centre point has been shown by a prominent dot.

Step-2: Select the centre point (A) on the nail phalange (First phalange) of
the thumb.

Step-3: Select the centre point (B) on the base of thumb by approximation
or by measurements with a scale as shown in the diagram.

Step-4: Join points A & B and extend this line up to the mount of Venus

Step-5: Determine the life line. Point C is the outer face of the palm from
where the line of life commences. Point D, where the line of life ends, is
located on the outside of the wrist, below the thumb.

Step-6: Join points C & D, intersecting the prolonged line AB at a point

O. Now point O is the centre of a semi circle on the palm with the line CD
as base.

Step-7: Divide this arch into three equal segments. Join these points on
the arch with point O, making three angles of 60o degrees each. These
radii cut the line of life at 33 years and 66 years of age, while the 0 year of
age is at point C, the commencement of the line of life and 99 years (the
expected span of human life) at point D, the termination point of the line
of life, as shown in the diagram.

• The in between readings can be taken by dividing the line of life by the
radii at equal intervals, using a protector from a geometry box.
Approximately 1.82o degrees equal one year on the line of life.

• The counting for age of the events marked on the horizontal lines of
head and heart will start from the starting point C on the line of Life,
between the index finger and thumb, towards the end point D on the
wrist,. For the events marked on vertical lines of fate and Sun will be
in reverse order, that is from the point D at the end of line of Life
towards the starting point C on the line of life.

Step-8: Find the line of fate. The age 0 year to 99 years will be from the
middle of the first bracelet to the middle of the base lines of the middle
finger as shown in the diagram below. Join the middle point on the first
103
Bracelet and the middle point on the base of middle finger to the centre
point O. Measure the angle between these lines standing at centre point
O. Say it is equal to 132o degrees. Then radii drawn at 12o degrees interval
will cut the line of Fate at 9 yrs. interval, counting from the bracelet
towards the middle finger.

• Step 9: For head and heart lines: The age 0 year to 99 years. will be
percussion to percussion of the palm in the alignment of the actually
marked lines on the palm as shown in the diagrams below.

• For the line of Head: Join the deemed points of start and termination
on percussion of the palm for the line of Head to the centre point O.

• For the line of Head: Join the deemed points of start and termination
on percussion of the palm for the line of head to the centre point O.
Measure the angle standing at centre O, between these two lines. Say it
is equal to 88o degrees. Then Radii drawn at 8o degrees interval will cut
the line of head at 9 years interval. Start counting from the thumb
side.

• Similarly, for the line of heart: Join the deemed points of start and
termination on percussion of the palm for the line of heart to the
centre point O. Measure the angle standing at centre O, between these
two lines. Say it is equal to 66o degrees. Then Radii drawn at 6o
degrees interval will cut the line of head at 9 years interval. Start
counting from the thumb side.

• Similarly, for the line of heart: Join the deemed points of start and
termination on percussion of the palm for the line of heart to the
centre point O.

PALMISTRY - FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

9.1 Do you look at the right or left hand?

People often ask which hand do you look at?. You have to study both
hands. In traditional palmistry, if you are right handed, they say "the left
is what the gods give you, the right is what you do with it." This is a bit
simplistic and misleading - we were given both hands, the lines on both
hands change, so we do something with both hands! The hand you write
with is your dominant or active hand. It reflects the conscious you, your
public face, you 'out in the world', what you have actively developed. The
other hand, the passive or minor hand, is more about the subconscious,
your private face, the inner you, your instincts, your latent abilities. So we
have to look at and compare both hands to see the 'whole' person.

9.2 Are not the lines on the palm just creases formed by hand
movement?

People who are doubtful about palmistry and hand analysis say that the
palmar lines are just folds or creases in the skin where the hand moves,
grasps and bends. Even scientists call the lines 'creases' - but they are
not simply caused by folding of the hand!

Compare the lines on the palm to other 'crease lines' on the body e.g.
elbow / back of knee / wrist. These 'crease' lines aren't as well defined as
the lines on the palm. If you stretch out your arm the elbow crease
becomes fainter, but stretch your hand and the palmer lines appear
stronger. There are no markings on the elbow or other creases such as we
see on the lines of the hand - (how could the markings be caused by
folding?). There are lines on the hand where the skin doesn't fold, and
places where the hand folds but there is no distinct line.

If the lines were caused by folding, why do most of us have two ‘transverse
creases’ (head and heart lines) on our palms instead of one? Manual
workers, who use their hands a lot, usually have fewer lines than people
who do sedentary jobs. Also, most of us have more lines on our passive
hands the one we don't write with) yet it is used (moved / folded) less than
the active hand.
105
The main argument against them being crease lines is that the lines on
the palm are all present by the time the foetus is 3 months old. The
lifeline forms at 7 - 8 weeks gestation, heart and head lines at 9 - 10
weeks, but the muscles needed for movement of the hand do not form
until 11 weeks, when there are the first reflex movements. Voluntary hand
actions don't start till 23 weeks. The nerve endings, which stimulate the
muscles, are forming around the same time as the lines. So the lines are
there before even reflex movements are possible and long before voluntary
muscular movement of the hand exists.

Another myth is that elderly people have more lines than young people.
Although we do tend to develop more lines as we get older, especially on
the fingertips, some elderly people have very few lines and some young
people have lines all over their palms! The number of lines on the palm
differs according to the temperament, health etc of the individual.

9.3 Can Palmistry tell how long I will live from my lifeline?

No, the life line does not foretell length of life, so do not worry if you think
you have a short lifeline! In modern hand reading it tells us a lot about
your health, energy and lifestyle. A short line may mean that you need to
use your energy in short bursts with rests in between. More common than
a short line is one which stops and re-starts, usually with the two lines
overlapping for a while; this shows some kind of change in your lifestyle.

9.4 Can Palmistry predict my future?

Although the fingerprints never change, the palmar lines and markings
change throughout life. If our future was all mapped out for us, surely the
lines would stay the same. When looking at a hand, we see the person as
they are now, bringing their past with them and sowing seeds for the
future. Although many palmists do make predictions, any prediction from
the hand is only potential. Most prediction is based on the direction you
are going in now. It is not set in stone - we all have free will to make
choices and changes in our lives that will affect our future and alter our
"fate", and our lines will change accordingly.

9.5 Can you tell me how many children or marriages I will have?

This is the palmistry question that I get asked more than any other! The
origin of the child lines and 'marriage' lines (also known as 'lines of
union', 'affection', 'attachment' or 'relationship' lines) goes back to
palmistry manuscripts dating from the fifteenth century and are well
known in traditional palm reading and have long been used in fortune
telling or chiromancy. These lines are located on the ulna or percussion
edge of the hand, on the Mercury mount, underneath the little finger.
106
The relationship lines are horizontal lines - you might see them more
clearly if you form your hand into a fist, and you should see some creases
at the side of the hand, below the little finger and above the heart line.
The number of lines was supposed to represent the number of marriages.

The child lines are small vertical lines that sit in top of, or cross, the
relationship lines. In old-fashioned palmistry, a strong line was supposed
to represent a boy and a weak line a girl. Some palmists say a straight
line is a boy and a slanted line is a girl.

9.6 Do you have to be psychic to read hands? Is it a gift?

No, anyone can learn palmistry. Hand reading is a skill like map reading,
or cracking a code. You learn all the basics of what each feature of the
hand might represent, and then you put all the pieces together to build
up a picture of the person. No two hands are the same, so each
combination of features is unique to that person. The more readings you
do, the more your natural intuition can increase, but you are still using
the analytical techniques to reach your interpretation of the person’s
hands. The only mystery is why it should work at all!

9.7 How to do Palmistry? How to read hands?

This question comes up a lot on the search engines. Or ‘palm lines, what
does it mean?’, ‘how do palmists interpret hands?’ etc. The answer is to
read every palmistry book you can find, maybe go on a course, gather as
much info as you can, try it out, test it on lots of people. Then you will
gradually learn how to do it. It is not something you can learn overnight.
In fact you never stop learning. There are so many different palmistry
traditions, hand reading theories, scientific discoveries to learn about.
Everyone is unique so there are always new combinations of features to
look at on people's hands. The combinations are the important thing. You
have to look at every feature in conjunction with everything else on the
hand. Do not get too hung up on signs and symbols, like "I have a star on
my Luna Mount" etc. I do not believe that such markings are omens. In
fact most are not independent stars at all, but lines crossing at a central
point, so interpret the lines and you may get an idea what the 'star'
represents.

9.8 Is hand reading a Science?

I wish I could answer ‘yes’ to this, but the fact is that interpreting
character and temperament from the hand has not been ‘scientifically
proven’ - yet! Scientists have discovered that the hands are connected to
the brain! There are many things in life which science cannot yet explain,

107
but I have great faith that many more aspects of hand analysis will be
proven in the future!
