Drain all fluid from accumu- lators before moving them. Leave only the nitrogen precharge when moving accumulators. This is be- cause the tilting of an accumulator unit containing fluid can cause the floats to sink 2. Check the nitrogen precharge regularly to maintain at 1,000 psi. When this pressure is not main- tained, the fluid becomes aerated with nitrogen, and when a pre- venter is operated, the aerated fluid leaves the accumulators and is not returned. The recharging fluid will continue to aerate, reducing the nitrogen volume until the fluid forces the float to sink. How to Raise a Sunken Float in a Guided Float Accumulator 1. Attach a charging and gauging assembly to the accumulator and bleed off all nitrogen precharge When pressure drops to zero, Fe- move the accumulator drain plug and drain all fuid. 2. Replace the drain plug and re- charge with nitrogen t6 1,000 psi 3. Turn on pumps and charge ac- Cumulators 6 1,200 psi, bleed fuid off as fast as possible and repeat three times. Then, pump to 1,500 psi charge and bleed off as fast as possible. If the accumulator bleeds down to precharge pressure, the unit should be ready to be charged to 3,000 psi for normal use. How- ever if the accumulator retains the 1,200 psi or 1,500 psi charge given initially, the float may be defective. In some cases, the float can be repaired in the field. Otherwise, the accumulator should be return- ed to Koomey, Inc. for repair and recoding.
