1.0 INTRODUCTION
This specification has been written to define standard procedure for coating (painting)
new equipment in the GCC Region.
2.0 PURPOSE
To provide a standard system for coating Aseco manufactured equipment will be given an
effective anti corrosion protection and so that the finish will be acceptable and uniform
for the range of equipment produced.
3.0 DEFINITIONS
ASECO : Al Shirawi Equipment CO.LLC
Customer : The company who buy ASECO manufactured products
Supplier : The company who supplies painting materials to ASECO
4.0 PAINT SUPPLIERS
The following companies have been selected to supply the required paints and thinners:
Hempel Sigma Coatings Ltd, Berger Paints, Welcoat Paints
paints Saudi Arabia Dubai Dubai
UAE UAE UAE
ASECO will consider other equal paint manufacturers recommended by customer
provided that the manufacturer is proposed before any work is carried out and that the
manufacturer is under our approved supplier prior to the application of any coating. Use
of unapproved materials shall render ASECO liable to all costs associated with the
removal of those materials and any others thereby affected and making full restitution of
the coating system, this shall not be affected by the actual condition of the coating or its
substrate.
5.0 SURFACE PREPARATION
5.1 Fabricated Steel Structures, Surfaces, Weldments, Components, etc. (where a
complete abrasive blast is performed)
5.1.1 Grind all sharp edges to at least2 mm radius.
5.1.2 Remove all weld spatter and flux.
5.1.3 Degrease to SSPC-SPI (Solvent Cleaning) where applicable.
5.1.4 Blast clean to Sa 2.5 or NACE 2 or SSPC SP10.
5.1.5 Blasting profile Avg. 40 – 60, Hiher profile will be achievced where applicble.
5.1.6 All surfaces must be dry and care shall be taken to avoid re-contamination
with Oil, Grease, etc..
5.1.7 Relative Humidity shall not exceed 85% at any time during Blasting
5.1.8 Surface temperature of material to be coated shall remain at least 3 deg C
above Dew Point.
5.1.9 Blasted surfaces shall be primed within 4 hours and whilst the surface is at the
required standard. If the surface falls below SA 2.5 then it shall be re-blasted
to SA 2.5 where applicable.

5.2 Repair and touch up system for previously coated Steel Structures, Surfaces,
Weldments, Components, etc.(where spot blasting or power tool preparation is
performed)
5.2.1 Spot Blast to St 2 or SSPC-SP6 Where practical.
5.2.2 Where spot blasting is impractical, use power tools, wire brush and hand
sanding to remove rust and loose scale.
5.2.3 Surface to be treated must be dry, clean and free of any contamination.
5.2.4 Apply base primer immediately.
Note: Where component parts, such as noted within section 5.3, are assembled on the
structure to be blasted, special care must be taken to prevent surface damage or intrusion of
blast material.
5.3 Preparation for items and assemblies requiring painting where abrasive blasting
is impractical (ie. engines, transmissions, PTO's, hydraulic and pneumatic
components, valves, threaded connections, etc.) and could cause component
damage or failure.
5.3.1 Remove all grease, oil wax and other foreign materials to provide clean dry
surface.
5.3.2 If previously painted surface is weathered, or it exhibits rust, peeling or
blistering, remove with power tools.
5.3.3 Hand sand until suitable for refinishing.
Note: Items within this category which are assembled on a unit or system that is to be
blasted, special care must be taken to prevent surface damage or intrusion of blast
material.
5.4 Galvanized steel, and Non-Ferrous Metals such as Aluminium, Copper and
Stainless Steel.
5.5.1 Surface must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, wax, old paint film and
foreign matter.
5.5.2 Slick surface should be lightly abraded by sand paper
6.0 PAINT / COATING APPLICATION
6.1 All ASECO products are painting or coated using Airless spray equipment, only
external touch up work is carried out using conventional spray guns.
6.2 Conditions as specified in 5.1.7, 5.1.8 & 5.1.9 shall be maintained during coating and
for at least 4 hours after coating.
6.3 The manufacturers requirements shall always be met and shall be treated as a
minimum.
6.4 The applied coating shall be free from runs, drips, sags and any other visible defect
from application. Contractor shall be liable for any defect in the materials used and it
will be his responsibility to seek remedy from the manufacturer.
6.5 The individual coats shall achieve the stated dry film thickness and shall be free from
holidays and defects
6.6 No item shall be moved after coating until sufficient cure will have been achieved
according to the manufacturer's information sheets and the measured ambient
conditions to prevent casual damage.
