Subject: Application for providing multimedia facilities in
the classrooms
Sir.
We, the students of class XI, would like to draw your kind
attention to the fact that we feel the necessity of
multimedia facilities in our classrooms.
33
As it is the age of information technology, a multimedia
classroom can make teaching and learning more
effective and enjoyable for both the students and the
teachers. Multimedia learning is a form of learning
supported by different sources of information such as,
text, graphic, animation, audio, and video, etc.
Multimedia applications are used to improve the
learning process and increase the interaction between
students and teachers.
34
Besides, this technology allows the user to be an active
participant, rather than a spectator. With the help of
multimedia, the teachers can give more opportunity to
students to express their opinion and enjoy the course.
To cope with the present world the importance of
multimedia classroom cannot be denied anymore. In
absence of a multimedia classroom we will lag behind
in the race of acquiring up-to-date knowledge.
35
We, therefore, expect that you would be gracious
enough to provide multimedia facilities in the
classrooms.
Sincerely yours,
Raju

Write a paragraph describing the Merits and
Demerits of a Mobile Phone.
The merits and demerits of Mobile Phone
Mobile phone refers to a telephone that does not have
wires. One can carry it with oneself and use it
anywhere. It is a recent scientific invention. It has
created coruscation all over the world. It is of great use
to us. Besides communication with the people in distant
places, one can send message, know time-table, do
calculation, play games and sports, hear songs and
music, take snaps, be familiar with global culture by
37
browsing internet with the help of mobile phone. And so
its popularity is increasing day by day. One can
communicate with one's near and dear persons in
distant place in the twinkling of an eye by using mobile
phone. It saves one's valuable time, energy and money
as well. With its golden touch, the countries of the world
are like families in a village. But the mobile phone is not
an unmixed blessing to the human society. It has still
some drawbacks in disguise.
38
Being addicted to several vulgar websites through
mobile phone, the young generation may go to the
dogs losing their morality. Besides, scientists have
recently discovered that mobile phone can cause
cancer to the users. Moreover, terrorists use it at
random and commit terrorist activities at large.
Nevertheless, the importance of mobile phone in quick
communication is very great.

Drug is an essential element of human life. But drug
addiction is very dangerous. Do you agree? Give
reasons for your answer and show the ways of saving us
from the dangers of drugs. Write at least 200 words, but
don't exceed 250 words. JB '16: CB '10: CtgB '17: SB'11
40
The Abuse of Drugs
Drug is a substance used to treat or prevent disease or
infection. It is an essential element of human life. But
when this drug is taken for the harmful effects it has on
the body and mind, it is termed as the abuse of drugs.
And, the abuse of drugs has devastating impact on life.
The abuse of drugs or drug addiction has become a
serious national problem in recent times.
An irresistible attraction for some harmful things may be
41
said to be addiction and the materials which cause
intoxication in man are called drugs. These drugs
include opium, morphine, pethidine, heroine, cocaine,
marijuana, hemp, charas, bhang, etc.
Drug addiction is spreading like pestilence in
Bangladesh. The number of addicts is increasing
rapidly. There are many reasons for this rapid increase.
The impact of pseudo-culture has misled a section of
our youth to find relief in the tranqullising effect of drugs.
42
Acute unemployment, extreme poverty, political unrest,
lack of social security, lack of any particular aim in life-
these- are other reasons for frustration of a greater
section of our young generation who fall victim to drug
addiction. Because of some dishonest businessmen
drugs are easily available to young men nowdays. Thus
a lot of our young men and women, and even
teenager, have become addicted to drugs of different
kinds.
43
Drugs have terrible effect on human body. It carries the
addict to an unreal world of dreams. This is called
hallucination. The addict feels drowsy, loses appetite
and feels like vomiting. The poisonous effect of drugs is
dangerous. They damage the brain and the internal
function of the body and ultimately lead to death.
The remedy for drug addiction is not very easy. Drug
business is punishable and the highest punishment is
death sentence in Bangladesh. This law must be
44
enforced strictly. Our young generation must be made
aware of the dangerous effect of drug-taking.
Employment opportunity must be created. Political
unrest must be stopped. Parents must be careful more
about the education and upbringing of their children.
Government should set up more remedial centres to
give proper service to a greater number of addicts.
Drug addiction is a curse to modern civilisation. It
destroys a person, a family and a society.
45
So we should be conscious of this curse. We should
prevent our children from taking drugs. A countrywide
campaign against drug addiction should be
undertaken immediately. We all should come forward
to get rid of this terrible curse.
