A) Aim: the aim of this exercise is to lit a lamp from one location, it is widely
used in our life and it is basic of the lighting and electrical installations, it is
usually used in most rooms.
B) Necessary devices:
1) One lamp + its support
2) One switch Q1
3) One single phase socket
4) Junction
5) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) By the action on the switch Q1 the lamp will turn ON
2) Another action on the switch Q1 the lamp will turn OFF
3) The socket S can be used to supply any electric device

Ex2- Simple lighting with two lamps


A) Aim: the aim of this exercise is to lit two lamps from one location by using
the same switch, it is just like the previous exercise but it can be used in
larger rooms, balcony, corridor…
B) Necessary devices:

3) One single phase socket

C) Function:
1) By the action on the switch Q1 the two lamps will turn ON
2) Another action on the switch Q1 the two lamps will turn OFF

location, it is used in salons, chandelier…
B) Necessary devices:
1) two lamps + supports
2) One switch Q5 (or two switches Q1)
3) One single phase socket
4) Junction
5) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) By the action on the first switch of Q5 the first lamp will turn ON
2) Another action on the same switch the same lamp will turn OFF
3) By the action on the second switch of Q5 the second lamp will turn ON
4) Another action on the same switch the same lamp will turn OFF
5) The socket S can be used to supply any electric device

Ex8-Normal and dim lighting


A) Aim: this exercise is used in specific application like in theaters …
B) Necessary devices:
1) two lamps + supports
2) one switch Q6 + one switch Q1
3) Junction
4) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) By the action on Q1, the lamp L2 will turn ON while L1 is OFF
2) An action on Q6 will cause the series connection between L1 and L2,
both lamps will lit in a dimming way. Both lamps will be supplied with
half of the supply voltage.

Ex9-Hotel room lighting


A) Aim: the aim of this exercise is to reduce the consumption of electrical
energy. Just like its name, it can be used in hotel rooms or in small house
formed of WC and a bedroom.
B) Necessary devices:
1) two lamps + supports
2) one switch Q1 + one switch Q6+ one switch Q7
3) Junction
4) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) Q1 is used to control the supply of the circuit (it is like a circuit breaker)
2) By the action on Q6 or Q7, L1 will turn ON and L2 will turn OFF
3) Another action on Q6 or Q7, L1 will turn OFF and L2 will turn ON

Ex10- Series-parallel lighting


A) Aim: this exercise is very special application.
B) Necessary devices:
1) two lamps + supports
2) two switches Q1 + one switch Q6
3) Junction

C) Function:

By the action on Q1a, Q1b and Q6, the lighting will change between:

1) L1 will turn ON (normal lighting)


2) L2 will turn ON (normal lighting)
3) L1 and L1 will light in series (dim lighting)
4) L1 and L2 will light in parallel (normal lighting)
5) L1 and L2 will turn OFF

Ex11- Lighting with fluorescent lamp


A) Aim: the aim of this exercise is to understand the principle of operation of
fluorescent lamp and its wiring. It is widely used in houses, in halls, in
classrooms…

B) Necessary devices:
1) Fluorescent tube + supports
2) Starter
3) Ballast
4) One switch Q1
5) Junction
6) Conductor wire

C) Function:
1) By the action on the switch Q1 the AC current will pass through the
ballast
2) The magnetic field grows and shrinks with AC cycles
3) The tungsten filaments heat up as current goes through
4) The small neon lamp (starter) heats up a bimetallic switch
5) Bimetallic switch heats up and pops into OFF
6) Magnetic field collapses causing a spike of voltage (inductive kick)
7) Voltage spike forces ions all the way through the lamp
8) Lamp fails to light because of timing . the magnetic field which
collapsed was not at peak
9) The lamp automatically returns to preheat stage
10) Magnetic field collapses at maximum size, causing a powerful
inductive kick which starts the lamp.
11) The inductive kick got the lamp warm enough to keep the arc going .
as the lamp warms it gets brighter

Ex14-Teleruptor
A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to learn how to use the teleruptor, its
principle of operation and its wiring.
B) Necessary devices:
1) One push buttons

C) Function:
Any action on push button PB turn the teleruptor ON, it will cause the
changing positions of its contacts causing the turn OFF of one lamp and
turn ON the other lamp

Ex15-Triple direction by using teleruptor


A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to learn how to use the teleruptor for
lighting like triple or “N” directions, it is easier than the basic “N”
directions exercises, it can be used in multiple floors buildings or in long
corridors..
B) Necessary devices:
1) Three push buttons
2) Two lamps + supports
3) Teleruptor
4) Junction
5) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) The push buttons must be connected in parallel
2) The action on any of the push buttons , the teleruptor will turn ON and
one lamp will turn ON and the other turn OFF

A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to learn how to use the timer, its principle
of operation and its wiring. It is usually used in stairs lighting…

C) Function:
the action on any of the push buttons, turn the timer ON, it will cause the
changing position of its contact, causing the turn ON of both lamps for a
certain time and then the switch will return to initial position and then
lamps goes OFF

lighting, one using a timer and the other using a teleruptor…

C) Function:
1) The Q6 is used to select between the two types of lighting (teleruptor or
timer)
2) If the teleruptor is selected, the action on any of the push buttons the
teleruptor turns on and the lamp turns ON or Turn OFF
3) If the timer is selected, the action on any of the push buttons the timer
turns on and the lamp turns ON for a certain time then Turn OFF

Ex18- Annunciator table


A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to understand how an annuncitor table
works, it is used in hospitals and in hotels…
B) Necessary devices:
1) Six push buttons
2) Annonciator table
3) Junction
4) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) The client call the operator by pushing the push button found in his
room
2) A signalization lamp in the annunciator table corresponding to that
room will lit
3) When the operator see the lamp, he push another push button in the
annuncitor table to turn off the light, which means he will take the
order of the client
4) A signal bell or voice alert can be used optionally by using the built
in relay in the annunciator table.

Ex19- Electrical energy counter


A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to learn the principle of operation of the
electrical energy counter and how it is connected to the main circuit breaker
B) Necessary devices:
1) Energy counter
2) Circuit breaker
3) Conductor wire
C) Function:
1) The electrical energy counter is formed of two coils, one is voltage coil
and the other is current coil
2) When the electricity is present the voltage coil creates a magnetic field
3) When a load is present, it absorbs a certain current, the current coil
creates another magnetic field
4) A rotating disk is submitted to the resultant of both magnetic field
5) The disk will turn with a speed depending on the absorbed energy by the
load (current, voltage and time)

A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to understand the installation of a light

ambiance.

C) Function:
By regulating the dimmer switch, the light of the lamp will change from
OFF to dimming light to Normal lighting

Ex23- Lighting by using sensors (Motion sensor lighting)


A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to learn the installation of sensors in
lighting, the motion sensor is usually in outdoor lighting, in stairs lighting….
B) Necessary devices:
1) Motion sensor
2) Lamp + support
3) junction
4) conductor wires
C) Function:
When the sensor realize a movement in its range, the lamp will lit for some
time then it will turn OFF. Usually the motion sensor can be switched to all
time lighting mode (always ON)

Ex24- Command of a relay


A) Aim: The aim of this exercise is to understand the principle of operation of
the relay and how to use it.

B) Necessary devices:
1) Relay + support
2) Three Lamps + support
3) Switch Q1
4) junction
5) conductor wires

C) Function:

1) The relay is formed of a coil (electromagnet) and switches. The switch


can be NO (normally open) , NC (normally close) or mixed (inverter
switch)
2) If no action on the switch Q1, the switches are in stop (relaxing)
positions, the lamp connected to the NO switch will remain OFF and the
lamp connected to the NC switch will remain ON
3) By the action on the switch Q1, the coil is supplied and it creates a
magnetic field, the switches will change positions, the switches are in
work positions now, the lamp connected to the NO switch will become
ON and the lamp connected to the NC switch will become OFF

Aim: the aim of this project is to gather most of the previous exercises to
form the house electrical installation but on board
1) Every student must choose one of the previous learned exercises
2) The student must execute the chosen exercise on the project board
3) When all student finish their exercise, all board must be supplied from
the electrical source through the electrical energy counter and the main
circuit breaker.
