                                    “Cloud Computing”
1.0 Brief Description:
Cloud computing is internet based development and use of computer technology. In
concept, it is a paradigm shift where by details are expected from the user who no longer
knowledge of expertise in our control over the technologies infrastructure "in the cloud" that
supports them it typically inverse the delivery of dynamical the scalable and often virtualized
resources such as service over the internet.
The term cloud is used as a symbol for the internet typically cloud computing services
provide common business application online that are access from web browser wireless
software and data are stored on the server Beat services are broadly divided into three
categories infrastructure as service, platform as service and software as service.
The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that is often used to
represent the internet in flowchart and diagram computing the use of internet based computer
technology for variety observation it is style of computing in which virtualized sources are
provided as a service over the internet on a paper use basis all the cost associated with
setting up a data center such as procuring a building, hardware, redundant power supply,
cooling systems, upgrading electrical supply and maintaining a separate disaster recovery site
can be passed on the third party vendor change the customer is charged only for computer
services used cloud computing cost or much less than others.
The cloud when combined with computing the meaning some analysis and when the
define cloud computing narrowed as updated version of utility computing basically virtual
services available over the internet other go very broad are you anything we consume outside
the firewall is in the cloud including conventional outsourcing
Cloud computing comes with focus only when we think about what it always needs a
way to increase capacity or add capabilities to the fly without investing in a new
infrastructure training new personal and license in new software cloud computing in
compasses any subscription based on paper use service that in real time over the internet
extends IT existing capabilities.
                                                                                             5
Amazon played a key role in the development of cloud computing by modernizing
their data centers having found that. The new cloud Architecture resulted in significant
internal efficiency improvements whereby, small, fast-moving teams could add new features
faster and easier, Amazon started providing access to their systems through amazon web
Services on a utility computing basis in 2005.
In 2007, Google, IBM and a number of universities embarked on a large scale cloud
computing research project. By mid-2008, Gartner saw an opportunity for cloud computing
“to shape the relationship among consumers of IT services, those who use IT services and
those who sell them, “and observed that” organization are switching from company owned
hardware and software assets to use service based models” so that the “projected shifts to
cloud computing Will result in dramatic growth in IT products in some areas and in
significant reductions in other areas.
 Cloud Platform:
Cloud platform is a kind of platform that lets developers write applications that run in the
cloud, or use services provided from the cloud , or both. Different names are used for this
kind of platform today, including on demand platform and platform as a service.
 Cloud Storage:
It’s a method of managing our data (files, photos, music, video, wherever, etc…) from one or
more web based solutions, Rather than keeping our data primarily on hard drives that are
secured to our computers or other devices , we keep it “in the cloud” where it may be
accessible.
                                                                                          6
 Cloud Services:
A Cloud Services is an independent piece of software which can be used in conjunction with
other services to achieve an interoperable machine to machine interaction over the network.
Example include Amazon’s simple queue service, Google maps, Amazon’s flexible payment
service
 Characteristics of Cloud computing:
1. On- Demand Self-Service:
A consumer can unilaterally provision computing capabilities, such as server time and
network storage as needed automatically without involving the cloud service provider.
2. Broad Network access:
Cloud computing simply means network access from just about anywhere worldwide. Use a
standard web browser to access the user interface, without any software add-ons or specific
OS requirements. You just need to log in to your account using an internet connection in
order to extract the important feature of cloud computing as it really helps in generating the
best possible results.
3. RESOURCES POOLING:
Resource pooling is one of the essential characteristics of Cloud Computing. Resource
pooling means that a cloud service provider can share resources among several clients,
providing everyone with a different set of services as per their requirements. It is a multi-
client strategy that can be applied to data storage services, processing services, and
bandwidth provided services. The administration process of allocating resources in real-time
doesn’t conflict with the client’s experience.
4. EASY MAINTENANCE:
This is one of the best cloud characteristics. The servers are effortlessly maintained, and the
downtime remains low or absolutely zero sometimes. Cloud Computing powered resources
undergo several updates frequently to optimize their capabilities and potential. The updates
are more viable with the devices and perform quicker than the previous versions.
                                                                                             7
5. SECURITY:
Data security is one of the best characteristics of Cloud Computing. Cloud services create a
copy of the data that is stored to prevent any form of data loss. If one server loses the data by
any chance, the copy version is restored from the other server. This feature comes handy
when several users work on a particular file in real-time and a file suddenly gets corrupted.
6. FLEXIBILITY:
The company must scale as the competition develops. Users that use the traditional hosting
technique will have to switch service providers. Users benefit from greater freedom when
they host their data in the cloud. Scaling does not require the server to be restarted and can be
done anytime. There are a variety of payment alternatives also available for the users. This
implies businesses won’t have to spend too much on resources they don’t need.
 Cloud Computing Challenges:
1. Data Security and Privacy:
Data security is a major concern when switching to cloud computing. User or organizational
data stored in the cloud is critical and private. Even if the cloud service provider assures data
integrity, it is your responsibility to carry out user authentication and authorization, identity
management, data encryption, and access control. Security issues on the cloud include
identity theft, data breaches, malware infections, and a lot more which eventually decrease
the trust amongst the users of your applications. This can in turn lead to potential loss in
revenue alongside reputation and stature. Also, dealing with cloud computing requires
sending and receiving huge amounts of data at high speed, and therefore is susceptible to data
leaks.
2. Cost Management:
Even as almost all cloud service providers have a “Pay As You Go” model, which reduces
the overall cost of the resources being used, there are times when there are huge costs
incurred to the enterprise using cloud computing. When there is under optimization of the
resources, let’s say that the servers are not being used to their full potential, add up to the
hidden costs. If there is a degraded application performance or sudden spikes or overages in
the usage, it adds up to the overall cost.
                                                                                                8
Unused resources are one of the other main reasons why the costs go up. If you turn on the
services or an instance of cloud and forget to turn it off during the weekend or when there is
no current use of it, it will increase the cost without even using the resources.
3. Multi-Cloud Environments:
Due to an increase in the options available to the companies, enterprises not only use a single
cloud but depend on multiple cloud service providers. Most of these companies use hybrid
cloud tactics and close to 84% are dependent on multiple clouds. This often ends up being
hindered and difficult to manage for the infrastructure team. The process most of the time
ends up being highly complex for the IT team due to the differences between multiple cloud
providers.
4. Performance Challenges:
Performance is an important factor while considering cloud-based solutions. If the
performance of the cloud is not satisfactory, it can drive away users and decrease profits.
Even a little latency while loading an app or a web page can result in a huge drop in the
percentage of users. This latency can be a product of inefficient load balancing, which means
that the server cannot efficiently split the incoming traffic so as to provide the best user
experience. Challenges also arise in the case of fault tolerance, which means the operations
continue as required even when one or more of the components fail.
 Advantages:
      Back-ups and restore data.
      Improved collaboration.
      Excellent accessibility
      Low maintenance cost
      Mobility
      Data security
                                                                                             9
