The document discusses two views on gap years before university or work. Some see it as a chance to broaden horizons through travel. Others view it as an expensive waste of time. While gap years may offer experiences like learning independence abroad, the document argues they can also cause students to fall behind academically and lose momentum in their studies.

task 1

The flow chart shows " trampling ", the negative effect of tourists walking in the countryside for the
environment. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features.

Displayed is the flow chart, which details the adverse implication of " trampling ", the environmental
impact of visitors strolling through the countryside.

The intial impression of the chart is that the detioration of ecosystem and vegetarion is the negative
outcome of "trampling" process.

To begin with, once being stumped and walked by the tourists, the soil then morphed into the
compacted and sturdy surrfaces. For this reason, it has exerted adverse implications in air and water
quality of the soil. Trampling also increase the likelihood of damaging reproductive of plant which is
counter-productive for the developments of flora. As a result, there will be an increase in erosion,
another factor responsible for the reduction in vegetation, since water is not retained in the soil.
Stepping on vegetation can also cause damage to it. As a result, vegetation declines because weaker
plants are unable to grow or reproduce. Due to diminished vegetation and water runoff from the land,
the area eventually experienced erosion and poor soil and vegetation quality.

Task 2

Some young people look forward to a year of travelling, a "gap year", before they begin work or
university and see it as a chance to broaden their horizons. For others this is an expensive waste of
time.Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Traditionally, high school seniors will either pursue college or enter the workforce after graduation.
However, these days, a third option, the gap year, where students delay tertiary education for one or
two years to travel or work, is gaining traction. While there are admittedly several upsides of this
practice for students, I would contend that the negative influences are more glaring.

On the one hand, it is understandable why some people subscribe to the view that deferring university
enrollement for the purposes of working or traveling is advantageous. A commonly held view is that a
gap year affords undergraduate the opportunity to travel or immerse themselves in alien cultures, which
effectively helps them enrich their life experiences and hone their practical skills. A case in point is when
going abroad, students have to be well adapted and resourceful to an unfamiliar environment by
becoming more independent and picking up learning new languages. Secondly, given that virtually all
school syllabuses provide insufficient career guidance, spending several months self-reflecting and
attending vocational training courses will empower students with a good grasp of the suitable career
path. Such experience would be hard to obtain if students went straight to university and were packed
with the intensive working schedule.

On the other hand, I am convinced that the aforementioned benefits are pale in comparison with the
adverse bearings that a long year break may bring about for students. A pronounced drawback that gap
year takers have to incur is falling behind in their study and facing peer pressure. The inferiority
complex, prompted by the enormous strain of academic achievements, would give the rise to the
draining of self-confidence and chronic mental disorders. In addition, high school seniors may lose
momentum, struggling to resume their education after a long time away from tertiary education. Last
but not least, young people who decided  to work in lieu of going to college straight away are not likely
to stand a chance of saving a lot of money or cultivating relevant job skills during their gap year, which
can be attributed to the fact that most of the jobs available to high school leavers are mainly entry-level
jobs or manual works that will not teach them anything substantive.

In conclusion, while there are some merits of taking a gap year, I would contend that the given
downsides do not make it a worthwhile path.
