Typical Example

a. Install spacer (4) in cover (2) without shims.

b. Use a straight edge and a depth micrometer to measure the distance from the machined surface of
cover (2) to the top of spacer (4). Record this dimension. Subtract the thickness of the straight edge
from the distance measured, and call the difference dimension (Q).

https://127.0.0.1/sisweb/sisweb/techdoc/techdoc_print_page.jsp?returnurl=/sisweb/sisweb... 18/07/2023
375 & 375 L Excavators 1JM00001-UP (MACHINE) POWERED BY 3406 Engine(SE... Page 19 of 20

Typical Example

c. Use a straight edge and a depth micrometer to measure the distance from the upper surface of sun
gear (6) to the machined surface of ring gear (16). It will be necessary to use a spacer block on top of
the sun gear so the straight edge will clear the carrier assembly. Record this dimension. Subtract the
thickness of the straight edge and the spacer block from the distance measured, and call the difference
dimension (P).

d. Subtract dimension (P) from dimension (Q). Record this dimension. The clearance required
between the top surface of sun gear (6) to the top of spacer (4) must be 1.00 to 2.60 mm (.039 to .102
in). Add shims (3) between spacer (4) and cover (2) to obtain the correct clearance.

52. Remove spacer (4) from cover (2).

53. Put 1U-8846 Gasket Maker on the mating surfaces of ring gear (16) and cover (2).

54. Install shims (3) determined in Steps 51a through 51d and spacer (4) in cover (2). Use 5P-0960
Multipurpose Grease to hold the shims and spacer in the cover.

55. Fasten Tool (B) and a hoist to cover (2) as shown. Put the cover in its original position on the final
drive.

56. Put 9S-3263 Thread Lock on the threads of 20 bolts (1). Install 20 bolts (1) that hold cover (2) in
position. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1320 ± 150 lb ft).
