Karl Mayer, who combined the two Greek
words histos (tissues) and logos (study).

Pathology is a branch of medical science primarily concerning
the cause, origin and nature of disease. It involves the
examination of tissues, organs, bodily fluids and autopsies in
order to study and diagnose disease

Histopathology is the diagnosis and study of diseases of the tissues, and
involves examining tissues and/or cells under a microscope. Histopathologists
are responsible for making tissue diagnoses and helping clinicians manage a
patient's care.
