INTRODUCTION
I worked at an NGO named Kshitiksha Foundation. Kshitiksha Foundation is an ISO
certified Section 8 Non Profit Organization registered under Ministry of Corporate
Affairs, Govt of India. This humanitarian organization is committed to creating a
positive and lasting impact on society through our mission to promote environmental
conservation, care for stray animals, and women empowerment. It was founded on
Deepak Kumar's unwavering values and compassion on July 15, 2021.
OBJECTIVES
This NGO is dedicated to promoting a sustainable and compassionate world via three
key areas of focus: environmental protection, stray animal care, and women's
empowerment. Their objective is to inspire and motivate youth to become
changemakers who would help to foster a harmonious cohabitation of nature,
animals, and communities.
1. Environmental Conservation: They aim to educate and engage youth in activities
that raise awareness about environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution,
and climate change through tree-planting drives, waste management initiatives,
and advocating for eco-friendly policies.
Stray Animal Welfare: They are trying to raise awareness among young people
about the fate of these delicate species and encourage proper pet ownership and try
to build a society that treats all living beings with kindness and respect by promoting
animal welfare. Their goals include giving stray animals love, care, and food.
3. Women Empowerment:Their objectives include increasing women’s employability
through skill development and education, supporting women's health and hygiene,
and pushing for gender equality in all aspects of life.
4. Youth Engagement and Leadership: The active participation of youth is central to
their strategy. They give young people a place to harness their passion for social
problems and improve their leadership skills through seminars, training sessions,
and volunteer initiatives.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The problem statement that the Kshitiksha Foundation is addressing through its mission is
multifaceted.
• They first acknowledge that environmental degradation, which includes deforestation
and climate change, is a serious threat to the survival of all life on Earth.
• A crucial problem in animal care is addressed by the foundation's second goal, which is
to lessen the suffering of voiceless and defenseless stray animals, who frequently
experience abuse, starvation, and neglect.
• Finally, the foundation recognizes the ongoing issue of gender inequality and works to
address the structural prejudice and restrictions that women encounter, which prevent
them from fully participating in society and from accessing chances for advancement
and empowerment.
METHODOLOGY AND IMPLEMENTATION
Kshitiksha Foundation implements its objectives and vision through several
programs and initiatives like:
• Kshitiksha Educare(its flagship program)
• Book Distribution Drives
• Go Green, Go Clean
• Regular Stray Animal Feeding
• Empower Women, Empower Society
As a volunteering intern, I was assigned 5 tasks to do .The first task was a
crowdfunding task where we had to spread awareness to people about the
foundation’s cause and request them to donate for the same. The second task
involved increasing the reach of the foundation by asking 15 of my friends to
follow them on Instagram and Youtube.Third task was to make any person smile
by any random act of kindness or a nice gesture.Fourth task involved planting a
sapling in a place which was in dire need of vegetation or greenery and finally the
fifth task was to feed any stray animal with some food and water. These tasks
helped me give back to the society in various ways and really helped me put
things into perspective.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
My 4 weeks of internship experience involving these five tasks with the Kshitiksha
Foundation provided me with the following valuable insights and learnings:
1. Community Engagement and Awareness: Through the crowdfunding task,I learnt
how to effectively engage with the community, raise awareness about important
causes, and inspire people to contribute. This experience improved my
communication and persuasion skills.
2. Social Media and Outreach:The second task involving expanding the foundation's
social media reach taught me the importance of online presence and how to
leverage platforms like Instagram and Youtube for outreach.
3. Empathy and Kindness: The third task of making someone smile through random
acts of kindness deepened my understanding of empathy and helped me realise
how small things can make a huge difference in someone’s life and how just small
acts of kindness can make a person genuinely smile. This task reinforced the
importance of compassion and human connection.
4.Environmental Awareness and Action: The fourth task of planting a sapling in a
greenery-deprived area heightened my environmental awareness and the
significance of contributing to sustainability and reforestation efforts.
5. Animal Welfare:The fifth task of feeding a stray animal taught me about the plight
of vulnerable creatures and the role I can play in their welfare. It fostered a sense of
responsibility towards animals and the importance of humane treatment.
Overall, this internship provided me with a well-rounded perspective on social and
environmental issues, as well as practical skills related to community engagement,
social media outreach, empathy, environmental awareness, and animal welfare.
These learnings are of great help and are very valuable in both my personal and
professional life.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, the Kshitiksha Foundation wants to inspire young people to take the
lead in protecting the environment, caring for animals, and empowering women.
They envision a future where communities thrive alongside nature, animals are
treated well, and women have equal opportunities. By educating and training
young individuals with knowledge, skills, and kindness, we can all come together to
make our planet a better and more sustainable place to live.
