Things forces can do
• Push
• Pull
• Stretch
• Turn
Push
       We use a force to push a broken-down car.
Pull
       We use a force to pull a drawer open.
Stretch
          We use a force to stretch a rubber band.
Turn
       We use a force to turn a door handle.
                                    Exercise 01
1. Write four sentences, one for each of the words ‘push’, ‘pull’, ‘stretch’ and ‘turn’
2. Write short sentences describing what each force is being used for.

• No it’s not visible.
• But we could feel it.
• Force arrow represents the direction of a force.

• Note that, for a push, force arrow is pointing towards the object which is being pushed. For a
  pull this is the opposite.
                                   Exercise 02
1.   Draw a simple picture of your foot kicking a ball. Add a force arrow to show the push
     of your foot on the ball.

1. While they are playing together, Sam picks up his little brother Joe. Think
   about the force that acts on Joe.
a. In which direction does this force act?
b. What are the two objects interacting?
c. Draw a diagram to show the force that acts on Joe.
