About RFID System
RFID library management system is a
combination of radio -frequency-based
technology and microchip technology.
The information contained on microchips in
the tags affixed to library materials is read
using radio frequency technology.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
library automation is the latest technology to
be used in library theft detection systems.
Limitations of Conventional Process
It is a six step process.
This is a tedious and slow process.
Shelving of items in conventional library is done manually.
Time Consuming.
Misplacement of items.
Mis-shelving of books.
Repetitive reshelving task.
If automated all these problems can be avoided.
WHY RFID FOR LIBRARY?
Fastest, easiest, most efficient way to track, locate & manage library
materials.
Efficient Book circulation management
Automatic Check-in and Check-out
Library inventory tracking in minutes instead of hours
Multiple books can be read simultaneously
Unique ID of the RFID tag prevents counterfeiting
RFID In Action
RFID Architecture
As depicted in figure the whole operation is worked under three key phases-
Firstly items-tag are scanned by reader. Backend
Database
Secondly in backend transmitted data
coming through antenna (RF-wave) are
being recognized by RFID-based system PC.
It acts as a middleware communication Tags Reader Application
gateway among items, reader and system

And at the end it filters out and store data Scanned

RFID Tags
An RFID tag works
by transmitting and receiving
information via an antenna and a
microchip .
They are place in side the books.
they have a unique microchip ID.
Whenever the book will place on
the reader. The Reader will read
the ID of the tags that in encrypted
in the tag.
STAFF STATION READER
VIZ-101 middle range reader is a high
performance UHF reader.
This device is used to gather information
from an RFID tag, which is used to track
individual objects.
Radio waves are used to transfer data from
the tag to a reader.
One of the main feature of this product is
saving the time and it also reduces the queue
when compared with barcode or manual
circulation.
SELF CHECK-OUT KIOSK
Drop box can give 24/7 access for
students to return the book. This can
be utilized even when the library is
closed.
Students can drop the books from
outside the library and it gets
collected and stored in the book bin.
This can also be placed inside the
library. Receipt, Email or SMS can be
provided on return of the book.
SECURITY GATES
RFID gates/Security System will stop any
unauthorized book from going out of the
library.
It can alert the library staff by alarming.
This can also be integrated with cctv
camera or door lock mechanism for
additional security.
Theft detection is an integral feature of the
chip within the tag. It is a stand-alone
technology, which operates independently
of the library database.
MIDDLEWARE (PC)
Provide reader connectivity to other systems on the
network.
Translate data and transmit to its other application
Benefits
Better Collection Management
Shelves rectification and Verification
Improved Productivity and Services
Wireless inventory management
Faster Checked Out/In
Prevent Theft
Quick Searching, Weeding & inventory audit
Cost Avoidance
Eliminate Manual Labor Cost
Improve automation process
Reduce Repetitive Stress Injury
Advantages
Read/Write
Ability to add information directly to tags enables each unique asset to
carry its own unique history
Non-contact Reads
Ability to read tags at a distance, under a variety of environmental
conditions, without physical manipulation of the asset
Fast Read
Ability to simultaneously read large numbers (1000-1750 tags/sec) of items
Automation
Requires less human intervention
Authenticity
Each RFID chip is unique and can not be replicated
Economic Facts
Increase Security
Cost Avoidance
High Reliability
Longevity
