PATTERNS OF DEVELOPMENT

CHRONOLOGY/PROCEDURAL
o ONLINE SHOPPING PROCESS

Online shopping process is the act of buying goods and making purchases done on the internet. It has
been around for quite some time and has been gaining popularity among Bruneians. We chose online
shopping as the main focus of this assignment because we wanted to find out the system working behind
online shopping. One difficulty we faced in completing this assignment was that we could not find many
participants that have experience in online shopping to be interviewed. People choose online shopping
because they believe it is efficient in time. You do not need to be physically present at a destination to buy
the items. You can make purchases anywhere given that you have connection to the internet. People also
believe that online sellers and merchants give low competitive prices compared to vendors at a shop. It
also gives customer the opportunity to purchase items that cannot be found sold anywhere in their
countries. Other than that, your items will be delivered to you instead of having to carry them and
bringing them home. The procedure of online shopping consists of choosing the items, paying for the
items and shipment of items to the customer. Some online shopping websites and online sellers provide
return purchase service where your items are either replaced or your money will be refunded, if you find
your items to be unsatisfactory.

DESCRIPTIVE PATTERN (sensory or spatial)

o One Filipino president

Editor Curato is correct to point out that today’s political machinery in the Philippines is no longer
composed only of guns, goons, and gold, but now includes gigabytes as well (6). The rise of vitriolic
political trolling in the Philippines is addressed in the contributions of Jason Vincent A. Cabanes and
Jayeel S. Cornelio. They propose that it is no longer tenable to reclaim the spaces of communication now
infiltrated by political trolls—professionals or everyday loyal supporters of Duterte. Anthropologist Anna
Christina Pertierra discusses how the media, celebrity, and popular entertainment press upon the
“melodramatic dimensions of Philippine politics” (227). She argues that the emotions generated and
stirred by political drama, which are now more visible than ever before, are “serious business” and
cannot be ignored as “these moments generate the emotional ties that push people to support politicians
in times of tension and transition” (227). The above-mentioned essays will be of interest to media
practitioners who are seeking to reimagine ways of mass mediation and engagement, amid the
persistence of trolls and fake news. The authors in the collection suggest in different ways that Duterte’s
rise to power, the popular support he has gained, and his instrumentalization of drugs (and the fight
against them) to attain his promised change, did not happen overnight. We see an attention to structure
and consciousness in John Andrew G. Evangelista’s essay, in which he argues that Duterte’s homophobic
and sexist tirades are all too familiar in the systemically hetero-patriarchal Philippines. Readers will also
sense this attention to historical continuity leading to Dutertismo in the essays by Carmel Veloso Abao,
Jayson Lamchek, Julio C. Teehankee, and Adele Webb. Overall, the collection provides needed critical
commentary at a time of accelerated political crisis. Duterte’s war has only become bloodier. Many
accounts as of the time of writing (March 2019) indicate that the death toll has reached over 27,000.
Future conversations could go beyond articulations based on Western social science frameworks. What
do we make of the “drug war” and lifeworld’s linked to it when viewed through the lenses that are
contingent upon the experience of communities, whether in Manila or beyond? Many authors in the
collection call for the need to reimagine people’s investments in political and critical action in the time of
Duterte. What creativities exist in today’s expanding modes and spaces for protest and critique? These
questions are not yet deeply addressed in the contributions but a second installment will hopefully
address these in due course.

COMPARISON-CONTRAST
o LIVING IN THE PROVINCE AND IN THE CITY

People think that provinces are only filled with trees. No crowded places. And, that animals are
commonly everywhere and not living in cages. People think that living in a province remains better than
in a developing place in the country. Sure, province life is much more serene and stress-free living
compared to the big city. However, advantages exist when you live in the city. Differences between living
in the province and the city. Advantages of living in a province First, less air pollution. Everyone knows
that due to the greater number of greenery than the human population. The air we breathe there remains
fresher and healthier. Second, it has more soil – perfect for plants than cemented ones. Planting crops to
have vegetables for meals can make one spend less money. Third, the summer season feels a little less hot
as trees help absorb the heat from the sun. Aside from that, it also helps prevent one to get sunburn or
rashes. Fourth, no heavy traffics, no loud car engines, and less smoke from cars. Fifth, gadget use will
remain lesser than usual. You can enjoy the sights more than the pictures on social media.

CAUSE-EFFECT
o Effects of Success

Success and its achievement are attractive for people as they see only the positive side of gaining success
ignoring the negative side completely. The effects of success are two-faced as one not only gains success
but also faces a number of losses associated with the change brought by success. Success can be defined
as gaining something that one aspires to have such as some specific career, position in an organization,
bringing some kind of change in personality, getting married to some specific person and so on. After
gaining success over a perceived goal, one faces the positive as well as negative results of success. These
results should be analyzed beforehand in order to accept them or deal with them triumphantly.
Acquirement of success is impossible without change. Pavlina (2004) says, “Success requires change,
and change has both positive and negative consequences”. When a person gets what he considers as a
success for him, he has to accept the changes that are associated with success. For example, if a person
gets a promotion, he also gets increased responsibilities. These increased responsibilities are a change
for that person, which he should accept. With increased accountability, he has to do more work. His
personal life can be disturbed because of additional work. Therefore, before aspiring for success, every
person has to ponder over change along with the positive and negative consequences of success. Change
is also regarded by many as a negative effect because change requires the acquisition of new
characteristics and qualities that can be earned after enough struggles. Success is incomplete without
change. Success has different concepts for every person. Every person has to face different positive and
negative effects of success because his concept of success is different. Some people regard promotion as a
success, some regard better financial status as a success, some aspire to be more educated, some want to
have their own business and so on. Therefore, for every successful life for diverse personalities, the
attached advantages and disadvantages are dissimilar. For example, two people working in an
organization may have different criteria for success. For one, success can be associated with continuing
some specific job with better promotion and financial availabilities while for others, success can be better
getting rid of that job without any consideration to the attached benefits. Both types of personalities
should consider the negative as well as positive outcomes of their concepts of success. For the person
remaining in the same job, having a promotion and financial security, negative effects can be a lack of
variety, additional responsibilities, less time for family and friends, seclusion and so on. Similarly, the
person looking for different jobs can face financial loss, changed environment unsuitable for him,
communication problem, and increased stress and so on. Therefore, every person has to face as per his
concept of success. The negative effects of success are more overpowering than positive effects. Pavlina
(2004) also says, “The negatives overweigh the positives” when one wishes to have success. Success is
not fully rewarding; it is also demanding. Before aspiring for success that is well-liked, every person
should weigh the negative and positive effects. In case of more negative effects that cannot be accepted or
approved of, the idea of that kind of success should be ignored. However, this is a reality that negative
effects are always more in number.

LISTING
o MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS OF STUDYING

Student taking notes in a notebook in her home. Being Properly Organized and Prepared for Tests and
Exams Can Make All the Difference to School Performance. Effective Studying Starts with The Right
Attitude a Positive Outlook Can Shift Studying from A Punishment to An Opportunity to Learn. There is
no one-size-fits-all approach when learning how to effectively study. Studying methods should be tailored
to each student. Everyone has different abilities, so it is important to determine what works for you and
what doesn’t. (Find out what type of learner you are and which study techniques will work best for you!).
For some students, studying and staying motivated comes easily, others may have to work a little bit
harder. Finding the best way to study is an ongoing process. It isn’t something that can be left to the
night before the test. You should be constantly improving your study skills to better understand what
works (and what doesn’t). Learning how to study better helps avoid panic and frustration the next time a
big test is coming up. After all, you are more likely to do well and be less stressed before a test when you
have had time to properly review and practice the material! Mastering effective study habits not only
makes it easier to learn but will also help you get better grades in high school and post-secondary.
CLASSIFICATION AND DIVISION
o MUSIC GENRES

I've been working on the RYM Ultimate Box Set for many years now and I've embraced the importance of
genres both before and especially after this project. While some people hate the concept of genres and
scenes (and often see them as restrictive boxes and labels), the reality and the usefulness of such terms is
really hard to discard. Bands often are influenced by particular scenes and mirror the sounds, they are
easy terminology for discussing similarities in bands, and for using brief wording to refer to whole
historical movements and lists of bands. This list is a revisit of what I've learned and the trends and
concepts I see time and time again. If you haven't looked at the importance of genres in music it's time to
re-evaluate. Genres matter.

DEFINITION
o TSUNAMI

A tsunami is a series of waves caused by earthquakes or undersea volcanic eruptions. Tsunami are giant
waves caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. Out in the depths of the ocean, tsunami
waves do not dramatically increase in height. But as the waves travel inland, they build up to higher and
higher heights as the depth of the ocean decreases. The speed of tsunami waves depends on ocean depth
rather than the distance from the source of the wave. Tsunami waves may travel as fast as jet planes over
deep waters, only slowing down when reaching shallow waters. While tsunamis are often referred to as
tidal waves, this name is discouraged by oceanographers because tides have little to do with these giant
waves.

EXEMPLIFICATION
o ONLINE TRENDS

Analysts who study online trends are observing consumer online behavior, preferences, and habits to
determine what is driving a demographic. Trend watchers analyze large amounts of data and keyword
searches and make connections to capitalize on areas of growing popularity with consumers. The purpose
of studying online trends is to pinpoint business and marketing opportunities as they arise in order to
better meet those needs and make a profit, business analysts are taking note of the growing presence of
the internet in all aspects of life, from social interaction to doing business to entertainment. Online
interaction leaves a trail that is easy for researchers to follow. Cookies track consumer movements, while
search engines keep track of the most popular web searches and most commonly used keywords. Social
media sites track popular subjects and monitor what people are talking about.

PROBLEM-SOLUTION
o FLOODING

Flood is one of the most dangerous natural disasters. It happens when excessive water is collected in any
area. It usually happens due to heavy rainfall. India is highly prone to flood. There are many regions in
the country that face this natural disaster because of the overflowing of rivers. Moreover, it also happens
because of the melting of snow. Another reason for floods is when the dam breaks down. If we look at the
coastal areas, the hurricanes and tsunamis are held responsible for causing floods. In this essay on flood,
we will see the prevention and after effect of flood. In other words, whatever the cause may be, it is
equally dangerous. It has a lot of harmful consequences. Flood damages the living conditions and it takes
a lot of time to recover from this disaster. Therefore, the consequences of floods must be known and steps
must be taken to prevent it. Floods interrupt with the day-to-day functioning of the affected area. The
severe floods sometimes cause mass destruction. A lot of people and animals lose their lives due to floods.
Several others are injured. Floods also bring a rise in diseases. The stagnant water attracts mosquitoes
causing malaria, dengue, and more illnesses. Furthermore, people face power cuts due to the danger of
electrocution. They also have to face expensive pricing. As the supply of food and goods gets limited, the
prices naturally grow higher. This creates a big problem for the common man. Most importantly, the
whole country faces economic loss. The resources needed to rescue people and tackle this disaster
demands a hefty amount. Plus, the citizens lose their houses and cars which they worked all their lives
for. Subsequently, floods also hamper the environment. It causes soil erosion and this degrades the
quality of the soil. We lose out on fertile soil. Similarly, floods also damage flora and fauna. They damage
crops and displace trees. Thus, the measure should be taken to avoid these grave consequences.

PERSUASION
o Should Phone Be Banned in Schools?

Cell phones being in school is a hotly debated issue nowadays. With all the teenagers having cell phones
now the issue of them in school seems to be bigger than it has ever been. Many people think that they are
beneficial while others say they distract kids. Research and statistics show that phones prevent more than
help kids to learn. Cell phones should be banned in school because they prevent learning, encourage
cheating and pose health risks to students that use them. Although, the discussion “if cellphone should be
banned in the at a University level” continues to generate controversy, I highly believe that it should be
banned as research has shown that it affects and disrupts the classroom educational environment as it
promotes cheating, causes distractions to students and teachers, endorses cyberbullying, reduces
classmate socialization, downgrades ones grammatical skills, spreads misinformation, leads to high risk
of cell phone theft, contributes to the violation of privacy and overloads the emergency.
