BLACK FOR PROTECTION FROM BAD LUCK & EVIL

The Daruma doll is a traditional Japanese good luck charm used to make a
wish or set a goal and are typically made out of papier mâché. They represent
perseverance and embody the famous Japanese proverb: Nanakorobi Yaoki. “Fall
down seven times, stand up eight.” You can use different colours for different goals.

Dar Um A DolL PAPERCRAFT

INSTRUCTIONS: At the start of the year set a goal that you’re determined to achieve.
Draw in the Daruma’s left eye. Write your goal on its back. Put the Daruma in a
prominent place in your home to remind you of your goal. Once you achieve your
goal draw in the right eye. You can keep the Daruma at home or take it to a Buddhist
temple the following January for the Daruma Kuyō ceremony. It will then be put on a
bonfire to release its spirit back into the heavens. Don’t throw it away in the bin.
