Impressionism in music, is musical style that stresses tone color, atmosphere, and fluidity,
was heavily influenced by Impressionism art.

I. Why is it called impressionism? The thing is, impressionist
artists
were not trying to paint a reflection of real life, but an
'impression' of what the person, light, atmosphere, object or
landscape looked like to them. And that's why they were called
impressionists!
Expressionism, artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective
reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and
events arouse within a person.
Symbolism was a modernist movement that emerged in the early 201th
century. The term was used initially in poetry and painting.

II. In this lesson students will be able to:
Distinguish stylistic tendencies of Expressionism, New objectivism and Surrealism and
analyze the elements and principles of art that give these characteristics.

Discuss in written and oral form the ideas informing the artistic creation of selected
examples.
Explore how ideas inform artistic creations by creating a project.
