Earthen Dam

1. The document provides information to estimate materials required for an 80m portion of an earthen dam, including quantities of hearting (fine clay), casing (murum), and dry rubble pitching. 2. Calculations are shown to determine the quantities of hearting (18,586.67 cu m), casing (47,520 cu m), and dry rubble pitching (1,202.76 cu m). 3. An estimate is presented with the quantities, unit rates, and total estimated cost of Rs. 6,57,734 for the hearting, casing, and dry rubble materials.

Exampie &-Earthen Dam: The cross-section of an earthen dam ata certain change in its longitudinal ger
is shown in Fig. 11-6. The hearting of the embankment is specified as selected fine clay, and that for the co
as murum. A 500 mm thick dry rubble pitching is to be provided on the up-stream face of the dam. The ortu
slopes upwards unifornly at the rate of lin 20 in the direction parallel to the cen°re line of the dam. The :
siope at the site may be assumed as level.
Determine the quantitiesof materials required for the hearting, casing and pitching for alengh
80 metres of the dam from the given section and prepare an estimate of the materials for this portion au lc
rates.
