Toyota and Suzuki have formed a strategic alliance where they rebadge each other's vehicles for certain markets. They collaborate to diversify their product portfolios and expand their customer bases. By sharing platforms and manufacturing facilities, they optimize costs and production efficiencies. This win-win collaboration allows Suzuki to offer Toyota's reliable models while Toyota can now compete in India's budget segment.

You are on page 1/ 4

have you seen that there is a major

similarity between the Toyota vehicles

and the Suzuki vehicles that are going

around on the road

here and let me see what is going on

what is the exact reason they're doing

this and how it is really happening

hello everyone this is Chetan Singh

managing partner at BP impress and

founder director at parsmith Auto

components trading LLC today I want to

talk about a very interesting topic

that's making waves in the automotive

industry here in India and around the

world

have you seen that there's a major

similarity between the Toyota vehicles

and the Suzuki vehicles that are going

around on the roads for example if you

see the Toyota glanza it has a very

major similarity with the Suzuki Baleno

and if you see the Toyota Urban Cruiser

it looks just like a Suzuki Vitara

brezza so if uh you see this this you

know this has been going on for the last

four to five years or so and uh I

thought that let me go into detail and

let me see what is going on what is the

exact reason they're doing this and how

it is really happening and how it is

playing out on the market and what are

the things that impact Us in this whole

collaboration between Toyota and Suzuki

so I've divided this video into three

parts why they're doing this how they're

doing it and what is the impact on the

market

[Music]
so talking about the first part why they
are doing this if you look at to your
Toyota Motor Corporation it is actually

one of the biggest car makers of the

world

consistently through many years it's

been on number one or number two in some

years as the volume wise the biggest car

maker around the world uh however in

India if you see that they only are able

to sell few of their models for example

the Innova and the Fortuner compromise

80 of their sales and overall uh in

India Toyota ranks as a number six or

the number seven in the uh sales of its

cars if you look at maruti Suzuki on the

other hand consistently throughout many

months many years it has been the number

one car maker in India volume wise it

has more than a 46 market share which I

mean is just unbelievable if you think

about it if you ask me 46 market share

is with one person

so talking about why they are doing this

uh it's you know like Toyota has been

only able to capture within India a very

high-end segment whereas maruti Suzuki

has captured the uh entry level and the

mid segment and Suzuki is not able to

sell its high priced models in India and

Toyota is not able to sell its low price

models in India so when they come

together they are able to sell for

example the lower priced uh cars like

the Toyota glanza which is being made in

the maruti Suzuki plant in Gujarat and

similarly on the other hand the Suzuki

is able to sell its high priced Grand

Vitara which is made in the Toyotas

plant in Karnataka
now coming to the next Point how they
are doing this how they are actually

doing this they have actually made a

proper memorandum of understanding

between the two companies Toyota and

Suzuki and this was made way back in

2017 and the memorandum of understanding

exists goes beyond just India and in

other markets also for example in Africa

they are rebadging five cars of Toyota

and Suzuki or you know in some cases

vice versa

now talking about the similarities and

differences between the Toyota glanza

and the Suzuki Baleno if you look at

them uh there's mostly changes only on a

cosmetic level the Toyota glanza uses uh

an L-shaped DRL headlamp whereas the

Suzuki Baleno uses three individual

split LEDs this gives the Suzuki Baleno

a slightly more premium feel similarly

if you look at the front of the car

there is more Chrome which the Toyota

glanza uses which makes it a little more

sporty than the Suzuki Baleno talking

about the engine now they are both using

a 1.2 liter four cylinder K-12 petrol

engine uh interestingly enough though

the same vehicle which is being made as

a Suzuki Baleno and in maruti Suzuki's

plant in Gujarat when it's exported to

South Africa it's re-bashed at the

Toyota Starlet and the engine over there

changes to a 1.5 liter petrol engine

instead of a 1.2 liter engine here in

India

foreign lastly I want to talk about the

impact of this strategic Alliance has

had on the market overall this has

worked out beautifully between the two
companies Toyota and Suzuki they've been
able to diversify their product

portfolio and enhance their customer

base

uh Suzuki's budget watch as customers

now have access to Toyota's quality and

reliability and on the other hand Toyota

has successfully entered the budget

segment within India

they've been able to optimize their

costs enhance the production

efficiencies and streamline the

distribution channels which has led to

this collaboration being a win-win for

both the companies

I hope you found this video informative

and useful and I look forward to you
