Individual who have not already done so should apply as soon as possible. Individuals who have applied and sent = copy of the receipt do not need to take further action, If an individual is awarded a monthly benefit from Social Security Administration, they are required to notify the Office of Personnel Management immediately regarding the amount and effective date of the benefit. This can be done by sending a photocopy of the award notice or statem showing the monthly benefit amount with the effective date eligibility began. Periodic verification Social Security Administration records will be conducted to determine unreported awards. Payments from both OPM and OWCP for the same period of time are authorized only if, (1) OWCP payments are reeeived for a Scheduled (loss of limb or function) Award, (2) OWCP payments are received ‘due to the death of another person and the annuitant is eligible for receiving an annuity on the basis of their own Federal service, or (3) in place of receiving an OWCP Non-Scheduled Total or Partial Award, ‘an individual is receiving a Third Party Seitlement from the party directly responsible for their injury. A delay in filing could result in a delay in the date in which Medicare entitlement begins. Reporting Responsibilities It is important to notify the Office of Personnel Management of any changes to status such as becoming re-employed with the Federal Government, changes to marital status, or changes to address.
