Scrabble Games For Media Teaching

Based on Wikipedia Encyclopedia (2014) that Scrabble is a word game

which is played by two to four players on a square board with a 15×15 grid of
cells (individually known as "squares"), each of which accommodates a single
letter tile. In official club and tournament games, play is between two players or,
occasionally, between two teams each of which collaborates on a single rack.
The board is marked with "premium" squares, which multiply the number
of points awarded: eight dark red "triple-word" squares, 17 pink "double-word"
squares, of which one, the center square (H8), is marked with a star or other
symbol; 12 dark blue "triple-letter" squares, and 24 light blue "double-letter"
squares. In 2008, Hasbro changed the colors of the premium squares to orange for
TW, red for DW, blue for DL, and green for TL. Despite this, the original
premium square color scheme is still the preferred scheme for Scrabble boards
used in tournaments. The name of the game spelled out in game tiles from the
English-language version. Each tile is marked with their point value, with a blank
tile the game's equivalent of a wild card played as the word's first letter. The blank
tile is worth zero points.
In an English-language set, the game contains 100 tiles, 98 of which are
marked with a letter and a point value ranging from 1 to 10. The number of points
of each lettered tile is based on the letter's frequency in standard English writing;
commonly used letters such as vowels are worth one point, while less common
letters score higher, with Q and Z each worth 10 points. The game also has two
blank tiles that are unmarked and carry no point value. The blank tiles can be used
as substitutes for any letter; once laid on the board, however, the choice is fixed.
Other language sets use different letter set distributions with different point
values.
Tiles are usually made of wood or plastic and are 19 by 19 millimetres
(0.75 in × 0.75 in) square and 4 mm (0.16 in) thick, making them slightly smaller
than the squares on the board. Only the rosewood tiles of the deluxe edition varies
the width up to 2 mm (0.08 in) for different letters. Travelling versions of the
game often have smaller tiles (e.g. 13 mm × 13 mm (0.51 in × 0.51 in));
sometimes they are magnetic to keep them in place. The capital letter is printed in
black at the centre of the tile face and the letter's point value printed in a smaller
font at the bottom right corner.

 How to use
Without looking at any of the tiles in the bag, players will take one tile, the
player that has the letter that is closest to ‘A’ will begin the game. A blank tile
will win the start of the game. The tiles are them replaced to the bag and used in te
remainder of the game. Every player will strart their turn by drawing seven tiles
from the scrabble bag. There are three options during any turn. The player can
place a word, they can exchange tiles for new tiles or they can choose to pass. In
the most cases, players will try to place a word as the other two options will result
in no score.
When a player chooses to exchange tiles, they can choose to exchange one
or all of the tiles they currently hold. After tiles are exchanged, the turn is over
and player passes two times in a row, the game will end and the one with the
highest score will win
.
 The Strength
Spelling : The first and foremost advantage to Scrabble is spelling. The entire
game is based around spelling. Not only are you required to spell words
yourself, but you view words that other players spell as well. This serves to
increase your vocabulary and have a better grasp on the spelling of words.
This can be extremely advantageous for young children who are at a stage
where their vocabulary is expanding at a rapid rate.

Creativity and Strategy : One aspect of the mind that Scrabble forces the
player to use is creativity. When playing each word, the player must be able to
creatively think of a word that will play off of a previously spelled word. This
requires creative use of the letters that the player has. Some players even seek
to play words in specific areas as different spaces on the Scrabble board can
garner more points than others.

Entertaining : The aspect that keeps Scrabble a household name is not the
learning or educational advantage that it provides, but rather the fact that it is
entertaining. Scrabble includes competition with other players; if a player uses
her creativity to out-spell another player, she can win against opponents. The
game normally takes under an hour to finish.

 The Weakness
The weakness of this game is the Scrabble cannot used for multimedia
function for example for learn english skill like listening, speaking or writing.
Because it has to imroving skill vocabulary.
