Isaiah 14:12
How art though fallen from heaven, o Lucifer, son of the morning! How art though
cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Satan is a created being, he did not exist from the beginning, only God existed
from the beginning. In Genesis 1:1, the Bible says that God created the heavens
and earth, in Genesis 3:1, we see Satan appearing in the scene suddenly which tells
us that somewhere between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 3:1 Satan was created.
According to the book of Genesis, God created everything perfectly, God saw all
that he had made, and behold, it was very good. God has never created anything
evil and therefore, Satan too, must have been created perfect originally. The fall of
Satan is described in the book of Isaiah 14:12-21 and Ezekiel 28:1-10, We see God
speaking to the King of Tyre as well as Satan whose spirit indwelt him.
In Isaiah 14:12-21, we see the five I’s of Satan that consequently led to his fall, the
5 I’s assert Satan's will and not the will of God. The first I was, I will ascend to
heaven, this shows that in his mind he had the idea of wanting to be like God, in
the New Testament, in the book of Acts we see Jesus ascending to heaven as his
disciples watched, He was lifted, and a cloud took him out of their sight. The
second I was, I will exalt my throne, here we see pride, Satan exalts himself rather
than God, God is the only one who is worthy to be exalted and none other. Satan
desired to be exalted above the stars of God. The third I, I will sit upon the
mountain of Congregation, which means that Satan wanted to take a position that
was only rightfully God’s. Isaiah 2:2, In days to come, the mountain of the Lord’s
house shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be raised above
the hills, all the nations shall stream to it. The fourth I, was, I will ascend above the
heights of the clouds, this is again, Satan’s desire for exaltation above the glory of
God, the Bible says that Jesus is the only one who will be exalted. Philippians 2:9.
The fifth I, was, I will make myself like the most high, here, again we see Satan’s
desire to be like God, but there is only one most High God, Elohim! Genesis
14:19,22. Satan counterfeits the genuine nature of God through his deception.
Satan fell because of the sin of pride, his desire was to be like God and not to be a
servant of God, he was exceedingly beautiful, the Bible says, he was perfect in
beauty, full of wisdom, covered with precious stones, anointed cherubim, he
walked in the midst of the fire, blameless in all his ways, until iniquity was found
in him, he was the highest of all angels, but was not content in his position, he was
not satisfied with the power and gifts God had given him, he wanted more, he
became so consumed with pride over his God-given gifts, power and beauty, this
sense of superiority and self-exaltation, out of his own free will he schemed on
how to overrule God, Satan sinned without being tempted by anyone, he was
created with a free will, he chose to betray God’s trust. God trusted Satan enough
to give him a position of power among the heavenly angels, but he chose to go
against God and insight a third of all angels and rebelled against God, this led God
to cast him down together with all the angels who rebelled, they all will be
ultimately cast to the lake of fire together with all demons and sinners.
In the book of Luke 10:18, we see Jesus confirming the fall of Satan from grace
and likening it to lightning from heaven. Satan realized he did not have the power
to directly take God's throne from him, Today, he tempts the children of God, he
became the adversary and accuser of brethren, and his main goal is to deceive man
so as to strain the relationship between God and man, John 8:44, the Bible says, he
comes to steal, kill and destroy, to execute his missions he uses demons, they
deceive, torment and cause believers to go against the will of God so as to fight
and thwart the agenda of God. 1 Peter, 5:8, the devil is roaring around seeking
whom to devour, that is why as believers the Bible tells us to put on the full armor
of God.
There are many beliefs about demons, e.g., Ancient Egyptians believed demons do
exist, and they believed in demonic monsters that devour human souls in their
afterlife, even though demons did not exist in ancient Egyptian beliefs., Demons
carry out Satanic operations such as manipulation, wickedness, and destruction of
lives and properties, they are referred to as agents of darkness because they use
powers of darkness to carry out their Satan-given missions.
Demons can possess human beings, they are spirits and do not have a body, they
possess human bodies so as to control them and to fulfill Satan’s agenda, a person
who is posses by demons can blaspheme in a language unknown to them, and that
fear Holy objects like Bible or Churches, they have the supernatural ability to
know supernatural thins e.g., Mark 1:23-24, the man in the Bible who was
possessed and the demon in him was able to identify Jesus, as the son of God, they
do not have the ability to say the word, Christ, they have supernatural Strength
Mark 5: 4-5, and can be very violent, they have the ability to speak in different
voices, they have suicidal tendencies Mark 9:22, and can have seizures which can
cause abnormalities in behavior or movement e.g. stiffening of arms and legs.
There is a lot of controversy on the topic of whether a born-again Christian can be
demon-possessed or not. Demons can possess and indwell in the body of an
unbeliever but cannot enter the body of a born-again Christian, the bible says that
our bodies are the temples of God, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Or do you not know that
your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which you have from
God, and you are not your own? and that He who dwells in us Is greater than He
who dwells in the world. 1 John 4:4. Colossians 1:13,14 says that Christ has
rescued us from the powers of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his
beloved son in whom we have redemption and forgiveness of sins. In the Bible
there is nowhere we saw any believer who was demon possessed only the
unbelievers. Ephesians 1:13-14, also confirms that the Holy Spirit indwells
believers, “In Him, you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of
your salvation, and had believed in Him, were marked with the seal of the
promised Holy Spirit, this is the pledge of our inheritance towards redemption of
God’s own people, to the praise of his Glory.
