The Doctrine of Satan
The Doctrine of Satan
INTRODUCTION.
There is practically no culture, tribe, or society in this world that does not have a concept or a
fear of an invisible evil power. This has been witnessed by both Christian missionaries and
by secular anthropologists. The sorcerers, the reduced heads, the voodoo dolls, and the posts
totemic, all provide dramatic evidence of this universal fear. It is quite appropriate to ask about
where this fear came from and who it is directed towards. Let us consider the following:
The existence of Satan.
The world doubts its existence.
An example of this is the typical concept of cartoons. In most of today's world, it ...
represents the devil as a mischievous medieval and mythical creature, with two horns and a tail in the shape
with a fork, dressed in red flannel underwear, busy throwing coal into the ovens of the
hell. The television comedian Flip Wilson made a fortune making people laugh.
millions of people with her famous line: 'The devil made me do it.'
1.2 Another example is the denial from liberal pulpits. Of course, this has been going on for a long time.
Liberals who deny Christ have discarded concepts such as the "antiquated" old devil and the
new birth. The doctor Reinhold Niebuhr, a liberal theologian, once wrote: "It is not wise
that Christians claim to have no knowledge of the furniture of heaven or the temperature of
hell." The late Bishop Pike said that when he was a young seminarian, he had rejected
completely an angelic sky in the heights or a fiery hell. In the decade of
fifty, a national secular magazine conducted a census of about 5,000 American clergy, and found
that seventy-three percent of them ridiculed the concept of a personal devil.
1.3 also shows the silence of conservative pulpits. Even the pastors and laity who believe
In the Bible, they seem very reluctant to talk about the devil. Some time ago, an article was published titled
"If I were the devil." Allow me to quote briefly from it.
If I were the devil, the first thing I would do is deny my own existence. This strange approach is,
of course, completely opposite to that used by God, who desires, perhaps above all
things, let him believe fully in him! (See Heb. 11:6.) But it is not so with Satan. This disciple
Doubt seems to thrive more when it is underestimated, ignored, or denied.
Let's suppose there is a church that believes in the Bible and is going through a spiritual crisis. For
for several months, no soul has been converted. Attendance and offerings are low and the members are
they are unsettling. Finally, in desperation, the congregation appoints a special committee to
to discover the source of this coldness and lack of life. After much praying and inquiring, the committee
presents his report. What did he find? I think we can safely say that the committee
average would blame one or more of the following factors: (1) the pastor; (2) some of the members
of the church staff; (3) a cold congregation; or (4) a difficult neighborhood.
But which research group would present the following complaint?: 'We believe that the main source of
our problems over the last few months is satanic! We believe that the reason why it has not
There have been recently saved souls because the devil has attacked our church head-on!
We conclude our report with a strong recommendation that the congregation convene a
special meeting, rebuke Satan, plead for the blood of Christ and claim the victory.
If I were the devil, I would deny my existence in the world and hide it in the local church, to remain
free to do my things without being perceived, bothered, or controlled."(The Baptist Bulletin, December
from 1971, p.13.
2. The Bible declares its existence. We have seen the way in which it is doubted, denied, or diminished.
importance of the existence of Satan in the world of men. But in the Word of God it happens
the opposite.
2.1 The devil is mentioned in seven books of the Old Testament: Genesis, 1 Chronicles, Job (twelve times), Psalms.
Isaiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah.

It is found in nineteen books of the New Testament and all New Testament writers
they refer to him.
2.2.1 Mateo refers to him.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2.2.2 Marcos refers to him.
They came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been tormented by the demon, and who had had the legion.
sitting, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid" (Mr. 5:15).
2.2.3 Lucas refers to him.
And Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, which was one of the twelve.
22:3).
2.2.4 Juan refers to him. "He who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the
principle. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, to undo the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8).
2.2.5 Pablo refers to him.
And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with you
2.2.6 Pedro refers to him.
"But be sober and watch; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks around"
"seeking whom to devour" (1 Pet. 5:8).
2.2.7 Santiago refers to him.
Therefore submit to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
2.2.8 Judas refers to him.
But when the archangel Michael disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses,
He did not dare to pronounce a judgment of curse against him, but said: The Lord rebuke you" (Jude v. 9).
3. The Lord Jesus Christ mentions it about fifteen times:
Then Jesus said to him, 'Go away, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only...'
you shall serve" (Mt. 4:10).
"But he, turning, said to Peter: Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me, for you do not
you set your mind on the things of God, not on the things of men" (Mt. 16:23).
Then he will also say to those on the left: Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for
the devil and his angels" (Mt. 25:41).
And he said to them: I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He has been
murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When
"He speaks a lie; because he is a liar, and the father of lies" (John 8:44).
Jesus answered them, 'Did I not choose you, the twelve? And one of you is a devil?'
6:70).
The Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
(Luke 22:31)
Therefore, denying the personality of Satan is to deny both the statements of the Scriptures and the
testimony of the Savior himself,
3. The origin of Satan. Often the cynic makes a double accusation to the Christian: 'That's fine,
If God is so wise and so good, why did He create the devil? And if He is so powerful, why doesn't He...
Does he destroy?" A simple biblical answer to these two questions is: "He has not done it, but he will do it."
There are two important passages in the Word of God regarding the origin and the fall of the devil.
3.1 The origin and the fall as told by Ezekiel. Ezekiel predicts the coming judgment upon the city of

It was looted by Nebuchadnezzar in 573 BC and then destroyed by Alexander in 332 BC.
But during the second half of chapter 28, the prophet goes beyond the earthly panorama and us
describe the creation and judgment of a vile and depraved creature. Let us consider the passage.
Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You were…

you were; your clothing was of every precious stone; of sardius, topaz, jasper, chrysolite, beryl, and onyx;
of sapphire, carbuncle, emerald and gold; the beauties of your drums and flutes were prepared
for you on the day of your creation. You, great cherub, protector, I placed you on the holy mountain of God,
there you were; walking among the fiery stones. You were perfect in all your ways from the
day you were created, until wickedness was found in you. Because of the multitude of your trades
You were full of iniquity, and you sinned; therefore I cast you out of the mountain of God; and I threw you out from among the...
stones of fire, oh protective cherub. Your heart was exalted because of your beauty, you corrupted
your wisdom because of your splendor; I will cast you to the ground; before kings I will place you to
look at you. With the multitude of your wickedness and with the iniquity of your dealings, you have profaned your
sanctuary; I, therefore, brought forth fire from within you, which consumed you, and I turned you into ashes upon the
land in the eyes of all those who look at you. All those who knew you from among the towns
they will be amazed at you; you will be a terror, and you will cease to be forever" (Ezekiel 28:12-19).
Now let's observe some key words in this passage:
3.2 "You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty" (v.12). Never
describe a human being in these terms, rather the opposite. Note the following passages:
... for there is no man who does not sin...
"Who can say: I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from my sin?" (Pr. 20:9).
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? (Jer. 17:9)
Certainly there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
upon him was the sin of all of us" (Is. 53:6).
Although we all are like dirt, and all our righteousness like a filthy rag;
We all fell like the leaf, and our iniquities took us away like the wind" (Is. 64:6).
"For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23).
"But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin..." (Gal. 3:22).
Because we all offend many times... (James 3:2).
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
us" (1 John 1:8).
If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1:10).
So we see that it is impossible for Ezekiel to be referring to a human being in this verse.
3.3 "In Eden, in the garden of God you were" (v. 13). Some have speculated that Ezekiel was
referring to Adam here, but nowhere in Genesis does it say that Adam's clothing was 'of all
precious stone ... and gold.
3. 'The primacies of your drums and flutes' (v. 13). Regarding this, Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost

3.4.1 He was anointed. In the Old Testament, there were three anointed offices: that of prophet, that of priest and
the king. Here is a suggestion that Lucifer may have been originally created to serve
(under the direction of Christ) as prophet, priest, and king of heaven. But he failed. This may be the
reason why God separated these offices. We notice this defined separation of the offices of
priest and king in two specific passages of the Old Testament.

3.4.1.1 The example of King Saul. In 1 Samuel 13, Saul tries to forcefully fulfill the role of
priesthood offering a sacrifice. Let's read the details:
Then Saul said: Bring me burnt offerings and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. And when he
He had just offered the holocaust, here came Samuel; and Saul went out to meet him, to greet him.
Then Samuel said: What have you done? And Saul answered: Because I saw that the people were deserting me, and
that you were not coming within the specified time, and that the Philistines were gathered at Micmas, I said to myself:
Now the Philistines will descend upon me at Gilgal, and I have not implored the favor of the Lord.
I exerted myself, then, and offered a burnt offering. Then Samuel said to Saul: You have acted foolishly; you did not keep the
commandment of the Lord your God that He had commanded you; for now the Lord would have confirmed your
kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom will not be enduring. Jehovah has sought a man
according to his heart, which the Lord has designated to be prince over his people, because
You have not kept what the Lord commanded you" (1 Sam. 13:9-14).
3.4.1.2 The example of King Uzziah. This king of Judea was a wise and good king for most of
his reign. However, like Lucifer, he allowed his heart to become crazed by power.
Let's listen to the sad outcome:
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction; for he rebelled against the Lord his God.
God, entering the temple of Jehovah to burn incense on the altar of incense. And he entered behind him the
priest Azariah, and with him eighty priests of Jehovah, brave men. And they stood against the
King Uzziah, and they said to him: It is not for you, O Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the
priests, sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn it. Come out of the sanctuary, for you have
prevaricated, and it will not be for glory before the Lord God. Then Uzziah, having in his hand a
censer to offer incense, was filled with anger; and in his anger against the priests, leprosy broke out on him
in front of the priests in the house of Jehovah, next to the altar of incense. And the high priest looked at him

hurriedly from that place; and he also hurried to leave, because the Lord had struck him. Thus the
King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death, and he lived as a leper in a separate house, for which he was
excluded from the house of Jehovah; and Jotham his son was in charge of the royal house, governing the people of the
land" (2 Chronicles 26:16-21).
3,4,1,3 It was a guardian cherub. A cherub was a special type of angelic being whose purpose
was to protect the holiness of God (see Gn. 3; Ex. 25; 1 K.6; Ez. 1; Rev. 4). The evidence both
Archaeological as well as biblical suggests that they resembled a lion, a calf, an eagle, and a man.
Apparently Lucifer was created (among other purposes) to demonstrate the earthly work of Christ.
presented by the four authors of the gospels.
Matthew presents Christ as the King resembling a lion.
Marcos presents him as a servant resembling a calf.
Lucas presents himself as the perfect man.
Juanlo presents as the God resembling an eagle.
In fact, some Bible scholars suggest that these four creatures described in Revelation 4
they exist to carry out the task that God once assigned to Lucifer
And before the throne there was a sea of glass like crystal; and beside the throne, and around the
throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind. The first living creature was like a
lion; the second was like a calf; the third had a face like a man; and the fourth was
similar to an eagle flying. And the four living creatures each had six wings, and around and by
inside they were full of eyes; and they did not cease day and night to say: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God
Almighty, the one who was, the one who is, and the one who is to come” (Rev. 4:6-8).
3.4.1.4 Here we have the first sin and the self-creation of the first sinner in the entire universe.
In the New Testament, the apostle Paul refers to this tragic historical narrative, using it as a
warning against the ordination of an immature pastoral candidate.
Faithful word: If anyone desires the bishopric, he desires a good work. But it is necessary that the bishop be
irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach; not
not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy for dishonest gain, but gentle, peaceable, not covetous;

fading away falls into the condemnation of the devil. It is also necessary that he has a good testimony
from those outside, so that he may not fall into disgrace and into the snare of the devil” (1 Tim. 3:1-7).
3.5. The origin and the fall narrated by Isaiah.

I will ascend to the clouds, and I will be like the Most High" (Isa. 14:12-14).
Note these five reckless and fatal declarations of intent from the devil:
3.5.1. I will ascend to heaven. It is obvious that Satan had in mind the third heaven, the very dwelling of God.
(see 2 Cor. 12:2).
3.5.2 Together with the stars of God, I will raise my throne. It is likely to be a reference to the
angels. Satan wanted the worship of the angels.
3.5.3 On the mount of testimony I will sit, on the sides of the north. Lucifer now seeks to enter the
"executive office" of God somewhere in the north to sit at his very desk. I would try.
to control not only the angels, but also the size and number of the starry galaxies.
3.5.4 About the heights of the clouds I will rise. This may well be a reference to that special cloud of
the glory of the Shekinah of God that is so often found in the Bible.
3.5.5 I will be like the Most High. It is revealing to notice the name that Satan uses for God here. He wanted
to be like El-Elyon, the Most High. This name literally means 'the strongest strong.' The devil
He could have chosen other names for God. He could have used El-Shaddai, which means 'the one who'
He has breasts, the one who feeds his children," but he did not. He could have chosen Jehovah-Rohi, who
it means 'the Shepherd God', but he also avoided this title. The reason is obvious. Satan coveted power.
of God, but was not interested in His attributes as a feeder and guide.
Here you can see a great contrast between Lucifer's attitude in the garden of God and the attitude of
Savior centuries later in the garden of Gethsemane. In the first garden, the devil fought fiercely for
his own will, but in the second garden, on three occasions, our gentle Messiah prayed: "Not my
Let my will be done." Let's see Matthew's account of this midnight episode:
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to his disciples: Sit down
here, while I go there and pray. And taking Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to
to become sad and to become greatly anxious. Then Jesus said to them: My soul is very sad, to the
death; stay here and watch with me. Going a little further, he fell on his face, praying and
saying: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as you will.
He came to his disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter: So you could not watch

willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again and prayed a second time, saying: My Father, if it cannot

because their eyes were heavy with sleep. And leaving them, he went away again and prayed for the third time.
again, saying the same words" (Mt. 26:36-44).
So far we have considered the existence and origin of Satan. What about his personality?
4. The personality of Satan.
4.1 He is a real person. In 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul distinguishes between celestial bodies and
the earthly bodies. Write:
Not all flesh is the same flesh, but one flesh is that of men, another flesh is that of beasts,
another for the fish, and another for the birds. And there are heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies; but one is the
"the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another" (1 Cor. 15:39, 40).
In light of the fact that Satan is a fallen angel from the celestial world, some believe that he is
it is reasonable to suggest that he also possesses a body, of course not an earthly body of flesh and
blood, but perhaps a body of some substance.

4.2 It has intelligence.
"So that Satan will not gain any advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his schemes" (2)
Co. 2:11).
But I fear that just as the serpent deceived Eve with its cunning, your senses may be somehow
ways misguided from the sincere fidelity to Christ" (2 Cor. 11:3).
4.3 It has memory. One of the most astonishing episodes in Christ's earthly ministry was the
experience of temptation by Satan.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. And after
After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came to him and said: If you are

It is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve. Then the devil left him; and behold
angels came and ministered to him” (Mt. 4:1-11).
We are often reminded how Jesus cited the Scriptures to refute the devil, and so He did,
citing three times from the book of Deuteronomy. But it is sometimes overlooked that here in this very
Passage from Matthew 4, the devil also quoted Scriptures before Christ. Note again the reference:
And he said to him: If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will hold you in their hands, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone" (Mt. 4:6).
This quote was taken from Psalm 91:11, 12. Surely it took it completely out of context and twisted it.
but Shakespeare was right: 'the devil quotes scripture.' Now the question may arise: how
Could Satan do it? Apparently, they had memorized Psalm 91. Many Christians don't even
They have read this Psalm, but it seems that Satan has registered it in his memory. There is another example of this.
"declaring serpent of the Scriptures" in Revelation 12:12:
Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea!
for the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that he has a short time." Satan will be
cast out of heaven in the midst of tribulation and will descend to the earth 'with great fury, knowing that he has little time'
time." How does he know? The obvious answer is that he has read the ninth chapter carefully.
Daniel. If I were the devil, I would read the Bible. Then I could twist and fit the Scriptures to
to deceive both saints and sinners.
4.4 It has a will. Paul instructs Timothy on dealing with wayward Christians. He says that
calm sea but firm, so that "they escape from the devil's snare, in which they are held captive at his will" (2
Ti. 2:26).
4.5 It has emotions.
4.5 Desire.
The Lord also said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
(Le. 22:31).
4.6 Pride. When describing the qualifications of a deacon, Paul mentions the following restriction:
"Not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil" (1 Tim. 3:6).
4.7 Ira.
Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea!
For the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that he has a short time." (Rev. 12:12).
4.8 Has great skill in organization. The Bible speaks of synagogues, doctrines, and things
depths of Satan.
But the Spirit clearly says that in the later times some will depart from the faith,
listening to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons" (1 Tim. 4:1).

But to you and to the rest who are in Thyatira, to as many as do not have this doctrine, and have not

(Ap. 2:24).
4.8.1 It was the devil who organized and led the first rebellion against God. Revelation
12:4 indicates that he persuaded a third of the angels from heaven to march with him.
And his tail dragged a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them down to the earth. And the dragon
He stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, ready to devour her child as soon as he was born.

number of which is like the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and surrounded the
camp of the saints and the beloved city; and fire came down from God out of heaven and consumed them
(Revelation 20:7-9)
The contemplation of the organizational skills of the devil, demonstrated in these two episodes,
one a historical account and the other a future event, is simply overwhelming. To illustrate
this skill, let us consider the following: during the American Civil War,
Undoubtedly, the most beloved and respected Southern general was Robert E. Lee. Lee was kind and
considered with his troops, brilliant in battle and afraid of nothing. During some of the battles
sometimes the confederate troops refused to fight until their praised leader moved
backwards, so that he would not die for a piece of unimportant land. "It is better that a thousand die
before Lee" was the saying and the concern of the common soldier. In light of this almost adoration of
Lee, what chance would a discontented soldier have in his clumsy attempts to destroy the brave.
General and take total leadership himself? Also, what would be the likelihood that he could
to persuade a third of the officers and infantry to join him voluntarily? And yet
this is precisely what Lucifer did according to Revelation 12:4. He not only managed to pull off this trick
incredible during the early days of the earth, but it will do it again someday, this time after
of the glorious millennium.
It was the devil who systematically subjected the patriarch Job from the Old Testament to tests in an attempt
for breaking it. (Job 1—2.) Paul warns about the devil and his evil legions (but highly
organized)
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
governors of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the regions
celestial beings" (Eph. 6:11, 12).
5. The names of Satan. There are no less than twenty-two names and titles for this perverted ex
prince of paradise, whose study itself sheds much light on his evil character.
5.1. Satan (adversary): the most common of his names, used about fifty-three times.
5.2 The devil (slanderer): used thirty-five times.
5.3 The prince of the power of the air.
"In which you once walked, following the course of this world, according to the prince
of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience" (Eph. 2:2).
5.4 The god of this age. 'In whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,
so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, does not shine on them
(2 Co. 4:4)
5.5 The King of Death.
So, since the children have shared in flesh and blood, he also shared in the same,
to destroy by means of death the one who had the power of death, that is, the devil" (Heb. 2:14).
5.6. The prince of this world.
7
IECPNA

Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be cast out.
5.7 The governor of the darkness.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
governors of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the regions
heavenly places" (Eph. 6:12).
5.8 Leviathan (the one who dwells in the sea of humanity).
On that day the Lord will punish with his hard, great, and strong sword the swift serpent Leviathan, and the
Leviathan, the twisting serpent; and he will kill the dragon that is in the sea" (Isaiah 27:1).
Here Satan is compared to a powerful marine dinosaur that swam in the waters at the beginning of the
history of the earth. Job describes these fearsome sea serpents:

He was called Lucifer, because he once served as "son of the morning." But with the advent of
Christ, "the Sun of righteousness shall arise, and in His wings He shall bring salvation" (Mal. 4:2).
5.10 The dragon. "Then there was a great battle in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the
dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought" (Rev. 12:7).
5.11 The deceiver. "And the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where
the beast and the false prophet were; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever" (Rev.
20:10). Satan is not only a deceiver but also a self-deceiver. This is the worst deception. A

5.12 Apollyon (destroyer). "And they have as king over them the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is

The incredible brutality and cruelty of man towards his fellow man can only be explained by energy.
evil, and sometimes even possession, by this terrible destroyer.

Our blessed Lord was once compared to the devil by the wicked Pharisees.
5.14 Belial (vileness, relentlessness)
"And what concord does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does the believer have with the unbeliever?" (2 Co. 6:15).
Vileness and ruthlessness often go hand in hand, as can be seen in the rise of the
cases of vicious violations and senseless murders.

5.15 The evil one. "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom, and the tares are the children
of the evil one" (Mt. 13:38).
In this same parable, our Lord describes Satan as the evil one who sowed the bad seed (the
tares) in the wheat field of God. "We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the
"malignant" (1 John 5:19).
5.16 The tempter. "Therefore, I also, not being able to bear it any longer, sent to find out about...
your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain" (1 Thes.
3:5). He is called the tempter, of course, because his first crime against humanity was the
to convince Eve to disobey God. (See Gen. 3.)
5.17 The accuser of the brothers. 'Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying: Now has come...
the salvation, the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ; for he has been thrown down
cast out the accuser of our brothers, who accused them before our God day and night" (Rev.
This title describes one of the most malevolent and misunderstood current activities of the devil.
We will consider it in more detail in a later part of our study.
5.18 Angel of light. "And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Thus
well, it is not surprising if their ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of justice; whose end will be
according to their works" Co. 11:14,15).
These verses and this title in themselves explain the emergence of many false sects today. How...
polished and popular their ministers often become! With what skill they can distort and
twist the Word of God.
5.19. Liar. "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want."
to do. He has been a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth
in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies" (Jn. 8:44).
He is a liar by his words in Genesis 3:4, 5. "Then the serpent said to the woman: You will not die;"
but God knows that the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,
knowing good and evil" (Gen. 3:4, 5).
5.20 Killer. "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do."
He has been a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies" (Jn. 8:44).
It was Satan who inspired Cain to kill his pious brother Abel, thus earning himself the title of
murderer.
5.21 Enemy. "The enemy who sowed it is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age; and the harvesters are
the angels" (Mt. 13:39).
5.22 Roaring lion. "Be sober, and watch; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
"you prowled around looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).
Just as the lion is the king of beasts, so is Satan the king of demons. The two are
powerful and relentless towards their victims.
6. The activities of Satan. So far we have considered the existence, the origin, the
personality and the names of Satan. Now we will examine his activities. What exactly is it
What does this former prince of paradise do? We will see that besides anything else he can be...
to accuse. Satan can never be accused of laziness.
Imitate God.
Imitation may very well be the sincerest form of flattering someone. Although the devil hates God,
he has, however, the obsession to be like God. What irony that God freely offers to everyone
repentant sinner that invaluable privilege that Satan has desperately and uselessly sought so much
time!, that is, to be like God. The apostle John describes this truth to us:
Behold what manner of love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; therefore the world does not...
He does not know us because he did not know him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been manifested.
what we are to be; but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we
we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:1, 2).
6.2 How does Satan imitate God? Consider:
9
IECPNA
V.R Mz, 2 Lot 8 YEAR 2021 Professor Luis Reyes G.
6.2.1 It has a false trinity. "And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and its feet were like
bear, and his mouth like a lion's mouth. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne, and great authority" (Rev.
13:2).
And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three spirits
unclean like frogs" (Rev. 16:13).
Of course the true Trinity is composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But
Satan imitates this celestial trio with his own infernal trio. In this terrible trinity, he assumes the
role of the Father; the antichrist is compared to the Son; and the false prophet is assigned the role of the Spirit
Saint.
6.2.2 It has synagogues. 'I know your works, and your tribulation, and your poverty (but you are rich), and the
blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and are not, but a synagogue of Satan" (Rev. 2:9).
It is tragic but true that today there are literally thousands of churches, only in the United States, in the
which does not even remotely refer to the Book, the Blood, and the Blessed Hope. The doctor
Donald Barnhouse used to say that when looking for the devil, one must not forget to check behind
the pulpits.
6.2.3 It has doctrines. "But the Spirit clearly says that in the latter times some
they will depart from the faith, listening to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons" (1 Tim. 4:1).
Some of the doctrines taught in Satan's systematic theology school would be: love
free, voluntary abortion, homosexuality, salvation by good works, evolution, and many others
other current creeds that dishonor Christ.
6.2.4 It has mysteries. "But to you and to the others who are in. Thyatira, to those who do not have that
doctrine, and they have not known what they call the depths of Satan, I tell you: Do not
"I will impose another burden" (Rev. 2:24).
For the mystery of iniquity is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until
"that he himself may be taken out of the way" (2 Thess. 2:7).
6.2.5 It has a throne. "I know your works, and where you dwell, where the throne of Satan is; but
You hold my name, and you have not denied my faith, even in the days when Antipas, my faithful witness, was killed.
among you, where Satan dwells" (Rev. 2:13).
And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and its feet were like those of a bear, and its mouth like the mouth of a lion.
And the dragon gave him his power and his throne, and great authority" (Rev. 13:2).
Note especially the phrase 'where the throne of Satan is.' This seems to indicate that Satan has
moved its headquarters from Babylon (see Gn. 11:1-9) to Pergamum in Turkey during the time of John. Without
embargo, later on (see Ap. 18) the apostle John suggests that the capital of the devil will be relocated.
again to Babylon during the tribulation.
6.2.6 He has a kingdom. 'And the devil said to him: I will give you all this power, and the glory of them; because to
"it has been delivered to me, and to whom I want, I give it" (Luke 4:6).
It is often asked whether Satan really had the right to offer the Savior the kingdoms of
this land. In a very real sense, yes, he did. Note the testimony of the apostle John:
I will no longer talk much with you; for the prince of this world comes, and he has nothing in me.
(Jn. 14:30).
We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
7.2.7 Has worshipers. "And they worshiped the dragon who had given authority to the beast, and they worshiped the
beast, saying: Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it? (Rev. 13:4).
6.2.8 Has angels. "Then there was a great battle in heaven: Michael and his angels fought
against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought
In a previous verse (Rev. 12:4), John seems to indicate that Satan may have persuaded a third
from the angels of heaven to join him in a vile rebellion against Jehovah God.
6.2.9 It has ministers. "So it is no wonder if their ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of
justice; whose end will be according to their works" (2Cor. 11:15).
It is interesting to note that the movement that said: 'God is dead' several decades ago was not
started by a communist or an atheist, but was the product of a Methodist teacher who taught at

a department of a religious university. By the way, that movement is dead now,
while God is very much alive.
6.2.10 Performs miracles.
The iniquitous one whose coming is by the work of Satan, with great power and lying signs and wonders.
(2 Thessalonians 2:9).
Certain false religious leaders have deceived multitudes of people due to their apparent ability to
to perform genuine miracles. But the Scriptures declare that the devil also has this power. Let it be heard the
Jesus' warning about this topic.
Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of.
my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day: Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your
name, and in your name we cast out demons, and in your name we performed many miracles? And
Then I will declare to them: 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness' (Mt. 7:21-23).
Offers sacrifices.
I say that what the gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to...
"you become participants with demons" (1 Co. 10:20).
6.2.12 It has communion (1 Cor. 10:20).
6.2.13 Has armies.
It will happen on that day, that the Lord will punish the army of heaven on high, and the kings of the
earth upon the earth" (Is. 24:21).
These infernal armies will one day be utterly defeated by the Almighty God in
Armageddon.
I looked, and behold, a white cloud; and on the cloud one sat like the Son of Man, who
she had a golden crown on her head, and a sharp sickle in her hand. And another angel came out of the temple,
crying out with a loud voice to the one seated on the cloud: Put in your sickle, and reap; for the hour to reap has come
has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he who sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle into
the earth, and the earth was harvested. Another angel came out of the temple that is in heaven, also having a
"the harvest is ripe" (Ap. 14:14-17).
And he gathered them in the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon (Rev. 16:16).
Then I saw the sky open; and behold, a white horse, and he who rode it was called Faithful and
True, and he judges and fights justly. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and there was on his head
many diadems; and he had a name written that no one knew but himself. He was dressed in
a garment dyed in blood; and his name is: The Word of God. And the heavenly armies, dressed in
very fine linen, white and clean, followed them on white horses. A sharp sword comes out of his mouth, to
to strike the nations with her, and he will rule them with an iron rod; and he tramples the winepress of the fury and of
the wrath of the Almighty God. And on his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King OF
KINGS AND Lord of LORDS" (Rev. 19:11-16).
Thus we see, through these thirteen examples, how Satan imitates God. But, what other activity

more extensive.
He referred to them another parable, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good

Then, after sending the people away, Jesus entered the house; and his disciples approached him and said:

He who has ears to hear, let him hear" (Mt. 13:36-43).
6.4 Instigates false doctrine. "But the Spirit clearly says that in the latter times some
they will abandon the faith, listening to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons; through hypocrisy
of liars who, having cauterized their conscience, will prohibit marriage and will order abstention from
foods that God created for believers and those to partake of them with thanksgiving
they have known the truth" (1 Tim. 4:1-3).
6.5. Pervert the Word of God. Its methods are:
6.5.1. It takes it out of context.
And he said to him: If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will hold you in their hands, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone" (Mt. 4:6).
But the serpent was cunning, more than all the animals of the field that the Lord God had made;
which said to the woman: Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'? And the woman
she responded to the serpent: From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree
what is in the middle of the garden said God: You shall not eat of it, nor touch it, lest you die. Then
the serpent said to the woman: You will not die" (Gen. 3:1-4).
6.5.2 It causes misinterpretation. How much anguish, frustration, and confusion the devil has caused to
make Christians and unbelievers misinterpret the Word of God!
6.5,3 Overemphasizes one aspect of a doctrine and ignores the other. A classic example would be, for
supposedly, the doctrine of predestination and free will. An incalculable number of believers
(preachers included) have gone overboard by overemphasizing an aspect of this currency that
it has two faces.
6.5.4 It attenuates certain doctrines. Perhaps the great biblical truth currently overlooked is the doctrine
vital of the local church. I quote again from the article 'If I Were the Devil':
Then I would return to the institution I hated and feared the most: the local church! I would continue to attack it.
from the outside (to maintain the practice), but I would concentrate most of my evil efforts
from the inside. My creed and my saying would be 'the church is dead'. If I were the devil, I would do everything
possible to convince declared Christians that the local church is finished. Not weak, no
ineffective, but dead and in a state of decomposition. I would encourage them to dig a grave, carve an epitaph and
to bury her as quietly and quickly as possible. Christianity would then pass into new glories, in
which small groups would replace on Sunday nights, and the sermons would be left out.
on the side to replace them with group sessions.
Let us conclude that, contrary to common opinion, Satan is not afraid of the
Word of God. In fact, He delights in using it, if He can interpret it wrong in some way.
This is perfectly demonstrated by false sects, whose followers frequently recite verses.
biblical by the dozens to "test" their false doctrines, all taken out of context.
6.5.5 He hinders the works of the servants of God. "For this reason, we wanted to go to you, I Paul
certainly one time and another; but Satan hindered us" (1 Thess. 2:18).
He cannot do it, of course, without the direct permission of God, who sometimes allows obstacles to
teach spiritual lessons to the believer.
6.5.6 Resist the sentences of the servants of God. "Then he said to me: Daniel, do not be afraid; for since
the first day you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself in the presence of your God, were
having heard your words; and because of your words I have come. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood against me
he opposed for twenty-one days; but here is Michael, one of the chief princes, came to
help me, and I stayed there with the kings of Persia" (Dn. 10; 12, 13).

As in the previous point, it should be noted that Satan cannot do it without approval from
God. It is true that sometimes our prayer life becomes difficult, not because of personal sin or lack of
will of God, but only by satanic interference.
6.5.7 Blinded to the truth by men. 'In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of
the unbelievers, so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is not shine upon them.
image of God" (2 Cor. 4:4).

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceives
to the entire world; was thrown to the earth, and his angels were thrown with him. Then I heard a great

"accused before our God day and night" (Rev. 12:9, 10).
These verses inform us about one of Satan's most treacherous works: to speak ill.
of the believers. In fact, this was one of the main reasons why the crucified Christ
and resurrected had to ascend to heaven, to fulfill his role as our divine advocate. The
the following passages refer to this ministry:

In fact, what needs to be kept in mind here is that the victims in these verses are believers.
Although Satan cannot possess a Christian, however (to the extent that God allows it,
Of course) a child of God can be oppressed, both mentally and physically. Sometimes God allows
that this happens to purify his son (as in the case of Job), and other times to punish a
believer for his sin. Paul writes about this second case.

6.8.4 Deceives.

Very few marriage counselors consider satanic activity when advising

from Satan. The devil hates the institution of marriage because it was originated and given by God himself.

But Satan rose up against Israel, and incited David to number Israel.
6,8.6.2 It was Satan who made Judas betray Christ.
And when they were dining, the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, son of Simon,

It was Satan who made Peter rebuke Jesus and then deny him.
Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying: Lord, have compassion on yourself; in

(Mt. 16:22, 23).
Jesus answered him: Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you: The rooster will not crow, until

It was Satan who made Ananias lie to the Holy Spirit.

7.1 In the third heaven as the director of God's choir. This was his place in the past, before the fall.
See Ezekiel 8.
7.2 In the heavenly places as the main enemy of God. This is his current location.

Satan. And the Lord said to Satan, 'Where do you come from?' And Satan answered the Lord, 'From going to and fro on the earth.'

"The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?" (Zech. 3:1,2).
7.3 On land only. This will be their first future location. During the last half of the
coming tribulation, Satan will be cast out of heaven, and his sphere of activities will be limited to this
world. See Revelation 12:7-12.
Some believe that this passage refers to its original fall in Genesis, but this cannot be true, as
the two phrases 'the accuser of our brethren' and 'by the blood of the Lamb' are tested.
In other words, at the moment of the first fall there were no "brothers" to accuse, and the

In this passage, it should also be noted the phrase 'for the devil has descended upon you with great wrath,'
knowing that he has little time." How will the devil know this? By having read the book of Daniel. To

seven years old.
7.4 In the abyss. This will be their second future place. Immediately after the victory of Christ.
In Armageddon, we read the following words:
I saw an angel descending from heaven, with the key to the abyss, and a great chain in his hand. And
he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and threw him into the
abyss, and he locked him up, and put his seal upon him, so that he would not deceive the nations anymore, until
a thousand years would be completed; and after this he must be released for a little while" (Rev. 20:1-3).

8. The limitations of Satan. By gathering and analyzing the numerous biblical passages that exist about the
devil, it becomes evident that he is the most powerful creature in all of God's universe. This dragon
depraved and terrible has more strength and cunning than any archangel or saint. But despite everything
Hello, it is still a creature and not the Creator. As a result of this blessed truth, its power and
knowledge is limited. Now we will consider the restrictions of this red dragon.
8.1 He is not omnipresent. The devil cannot be in China, Chicago, and Cuba at the same time. Without
embargo, this in no way means that believers in those places cannot be tempted by the
same time, because Satan literally has millions of fallen angels to do his will,
thus extending its ministry universally.
8.2. He is not omnipotent. Although he is the most powerful creature in the universe, his power, compared to the
of God, is like that of the ant and that of a great elephant.
8.3 He is not omniscient. It is true that the devil has acquired an immense amount of knowledge by
the mere fact of having been lurking for the last 6,000 years, but completely ignores
many things known by the humblest and least prepared believer. He knows nothing of love
God, of his mercy, his grace, and his forgiveness. The devil does not know the future, nor all the secrets of
past. It is often asked about the so-called wisdom of Satan and his habit of reading
the Bible. If you have truly read the Word of God, do you not know that your fate is sealed and that the lake
Will fire be their eternal prison? Yes, he knows these prophecies, but it must be remembered that according to Ezekiel

9. The believer's victory over Satan. The word 'nikao' appears twenty-eight times in the New

in which this word is used:
I have spoken these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but take heart,
I have overcome the world" (Jn. 16:33).
Little children, you are of God, and you have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than the
"that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
The one who overcomes will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son" (Rev. 21:7).
If language means anything, these verses promise the son of God total victory over his
enemy: the devil. But, how does the Christian experience this promised victory? They do so by having in
maintain the same fundamental data that anyone who wants to be victorious, whether in the field of
secular or spiritual battle. Here then are four fundamental facts:
9.1 must know its own weaknesses.
9.2 must know its own strength.
9.3 must know the weakness of its enemy.
9.4 must know the strength of the enemy.
Overestimating or underestimating any of these four areas could be a fatal mistake.

In one of His parables, our Lord rightly warns about this:
For which of you, wanting to build a tower, does not sit down first and calculate the costs,
see if he has what he needs to finish it? Lest after he has laid the foundation, and cannot
finish it, everyone who sees him starts to make fun of him, saying: This man began to
build, and could not finish. Or what king, when going to war against another king, does not first sit down and
Does he consider whether he can confront the one coming against him with twenty thousand with ten thousand? And if he cannot,
"When the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace" (Luke 14:28-32).
Now we will examine the four pieces of information that the winner must know:
9.5. The weakness of the Christian.
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit;
for apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown out like
grapevine, and it will dry up; and they gather them, and throw them into the fire, and they burn" (Jn. 15:5, 6).
When I converted, I thought that the Christian life was a matter of halfway. That is, I
he would carry half of the burden and God would take care of the other half. But to my dismay,
I constantly felt like I was losing my part. So I suggested to God that He take sixty percent, and I...
I would take care of the remaining forty percent. But this also turned out to be too heavy.
So I reasoned that a seventy/thirty agreement would surely work. I failed again. By
Well, after many years in the work of the Lord, sometimes I think I have reached a ninety agreement.
and eight/two. But I am still tempted to believe that by this point, I should be able to
carry at least two percent of the Master's work by myself. It simply has to
to know something I can do in the flesh for God. However, Jesus said: 'For apart from me
nothing you can do.
In Romans 7:18, Paul refers to the same thing: "And I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, nothing good dwells"
well; because the desire for good is in me, but not the doing of it" (Ro. 7:18).
So, the first basic fact that the Christian must know to ensure victory over Satan is
his own weakness.
9.6 The strength of the Christian. This is the second vital principle to be observed to ensure success.
spiritual. What is, then, our main strength? The answer is:
I am crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live
in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Gal.
2:20)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil. 4:13).
9.7 The weakness of Satan. Third, we must fully understand the weakness of our
enemy. According to the Scriptures, the devil is weak in the following areas:
9.7.1 He cannot tempt the believer without God's permission. This is clearly shown in Job 1:8-12.
And the Lord said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth,
perfect and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? Then Satan answered the Lord and said:
Does Job fear God for nothing? Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has?
You have given blessing to the work of his hands; therefore, his goods have increased upon the earth. But
Now extend your hand and touch all that he has, and you will see if he does not blaspheme against you in your very presence.
The Lord said to Satan: Behold, all that he has is in your hand; only do not lay your hand on...
And Satan went out from the presence of the Lord" (Job 1:8-12).
Here it should be noted that in verse 10 Satan spoke the exact truth, because God truly
he had surrounded Job. Therefore, when a child of God is under a great temptation or trial,
You should keep the following exciting truths in mind:
First of all, God knows exactly how much your child can bear.
For he knows our condition; he remembers that we are dust.
Secondly, it will not allow Satan to go beyond that point.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man; but God is faithful, and he will not let you be
tempted beyond what you can bear, but will also provide along with the temptation the way out, to
that you may be able to bear it" (1 Cor. 10:13).

9.7.4 Thirdly, it only allows temptation in the first place to strengthen and purify us. In
Genesis 50, Joseph looked back with his brothers at the betrayal of having been sold to the
Egyptian slavery. It concluded thus: "You thought evil against me, but God meant it for good,
to do what we see today, to keep many people alive
Santiago and Pedro also affirm this third principle.
Santiago, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad: Greetings.
My brothers, consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, knowing that the testing of
your faith produces patience. But let patience have its complete work, so that you may be perfect and
lacking nothing" (James 1:1-4).
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the
crown of life, which God has promised to those who love" (James 1:12). "In which you rejoice,
although for a little while now, if necessary, you may have to be grieved by various trials,
so that your faith, which is much more precious than gold, that though perishable, may be tested
test with fire, may it be found in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is manifested" (1 P.
1:6,7).
9.8 Cannot bear to be resisted.
Submit yourselves therefore to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
But how does one resist the devil? James gives the answer: by submitting first to God. 'Do not give place
to the devil" (Eph. 4:27).
Satan enjoys a vigorous debate (like the one he had with Eve in Genesis 3), but he cannot tolerate the
be resisted. The Christian can successfully resist the devil if they do the following:
9.8.1 First, you must know how the devil attacks. Paul warns us about this.
"So that Satan will not gain any advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his schemes" (2
Co. 2:11).
But, what are his machinations? In the last section of our study, we will consider
briefly the sixteen deadly machinations of the devil.
9.8.2 Secondly, you must stand guard and wait for Satan's attack.
But be sober, and watch; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks around
seeking whom to devour" (1 Peter 5:8).
9.8.3 Third, one must have the proper protection when Satan attacks.
Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole
armor of God, so that you may stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For we do not have
fight against blood and flesh, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this century, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take
the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done all, to stand

that you may extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the
the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Eph. 6:10-17).
Of course, the Apostle Paul spent the last years of his ministry in a Roman prison (Acts.
28). He certainly had many opportunities to see how the Roman guards would put on all the
battle armor. Since the book of Ephesians was written in this era, it seems very likely that

against Satan. It has often been observed that Paul does not mention any piece of

3. He cannot stand the blood of Christ nor the positive testimony of the Christian.
And they have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and
"they disregarded their lives even unto death" (Rev. 12:11).

9.9 The force of Satan. This is the fourth and final principle that must be understood to ensure
the victory: the enemy's strengths. Below, we provide a list of what we could call
"The sixteen deadly machinations of the devil."
9.9.1 The disappointment. Who hasn't experienced this emotion literally hundreds of times? But
For the knowledgeable Christian, all disappointments are His (God's) arrangements and must be
considered as such, so that Satan does not take advantage. Feeling disappointed is to forget
Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, that is, to those
that according to their purpose are called.
9.9.2 Discouragement. Discouragement is the second stage of disappointment. All discouragement comes from
devil. There is an anecdote in the history of the Church related to the great reformer Martin
Luther. He had been in the valley of discouragement for days. The Pope was trying to kill him. Some
his friends had rejected him. Suddenly he saw that his devout wife was coming down the stairs dressed
dressed in black, as if she were in mourning. -Woman, where are you going? -he asked her.
—At a funeral, my husband —she replied. —But who died? —he said. —God —she replied.
gently.
Upon hearing this, the great reformer exploded with indignation. It was not enough that the Pope was trying to
to kill him; now he had to deal with the blasphemy in his own house.
—Woman, who told you such a thing? —he asked. Looking him straight in the eyes (as only can be done)

In recent weeks, I was sure that you had somehow found out that God was dead.
At that moment, Luther knelt and asked God and his wife to forgive him for his
discouragement. To be discouraged is to forget 1 Samuel 30:6: 'And David was greatly distressed, for the people...
he spoke of stoning him, for the whole town was in bitterness of soul, each one for their children and for
his daughters; but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
9.9.3 Despair. Despair is the third and final stage of disappointment and discouragement.
Unless controlled, it can be fatal to the Christian life. To despair is to forget 2 Corinthians 4:8:
"That we are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair."
9.9.4 The doubt. Satan used this terrible weapon for the first time in the Garden of Eden. He began his attack
against Eva doubting the Word of God.
But the serpent was cunning, more than all the animals of the field that the Lord God had made;
Which said to the woman: 'Did God really say: You must not eat from any tree in the garden?' (Gen. 3:1).
To doubt is to forget 1 Timothy 2:8: 'Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands'
saints, without anger or strife.
9.9.5 Unbelief. Unbelief is the final form of doubt. This has been widely demonstrated.
in the Eden. As we have noted, Satan began by doubting the Word of God in Genesis 3:1.
Then he ended up denying the order when he realized that Eva was listening.

Do not believe is to forget Hebrews 3:12: 'See, brothers, that none of you has a heart...'
bad unbelief to turn away from the living God.
9.9.6 Distraction. This weapon of the devil can be very subtle, because often distractions

Sometimes, the true enemy of the best is not the worst, but the good. To distract oneself is to forget Matthew.
14:30: "But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying:
Lord, save me!
9.9.7 The double-mindedness. How many believers have been affected by this virus! The Scriptures are
filled with examples. Consider only these few:
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one and...
You will despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth” (Mt. 6:24).

The New Testament word that describes a double-minded man in Greek literally means

9.9.8. Dishonesty. There are almost endless ways in which Satan can use this terrible weapon.
It is not necessary for the Son of God to simply lie or steal to be dishonest. Hiding certain

9.9.9 The deception. The word deception appears many times in the New Testament. When considering them,
it is amazing to see how many times it appears in passages that relate to either the Word of God, or
in the last days, or with both things. Note only some of them:
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and will destroy
with the brightness of his coming; the wicked one whose coming is by the work of Satan, with great power and
signs and lying wonders, and with all deception of unrighteousness for those who perish, because they did not

For we are not like many, who profit by falsifying the word of God, but with sincerity,

Therefore, having this ministry according to the mercy that we have received, we do not...
we faint. Rather, we renounce the hidden and shameful, not behaving with cunning, nor

In other words, the devil's great weapon in the last days is deception. On one hand, the sects
strangers of our time deceive people by trying to add things to the Word of God, while
that liberals deceive by taking things away from the Scriptures. Jesus himself apparently warns in
against the two deceiving groups in their last spoken message.

lineage of David, the bright morning star. And the Spirit and the Bride say: Come. And the

from the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the book of life, and from the holy city and from the things
that are written in this book" (Revelation 22:16-19).
To be deceitful is to forget Jeremiah 17:9: 'The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked;'
Who will know him?
9.9.10 Clumsiness. There may be disagreement regarding the author of the book of Hebrews, or even questions.
about the location of the recipients. But there is no doubt about the spiritual condition of the
readers. In a word, they suffered from clumsiness. The author reminded them of the lack of solid biblical teachers in
his group to halt the wave of iniquity and widespread apostasy even in that era. But the author
he concluded that they simply couldn't be used. He explains with sadness why:
For although you should be teachers by now, after so much time, you need someone to teach you again.
to teach what the first rudiments of the words of God are; and you have become such that
You have a need for milk, and not for solid food. And everyone who partakes of milk is inexperienced.
in the word of justice, because he is a child; but solid food is for those who have attained
maturity, for those who through use have their senses trained in the discernment of good and of
mal" (Heb. 5:12-14).
This foolishness was also infecting the church of Corinth. Let us listen to the severe admonition of
Pablo:
So, brothers, I could not speak to you as to spiritual people, but as to carnal, as to
children in Christ. I fed you with milk, and not with solid food; for you were not yet able, nor are you able still,
for you are still carnal; for where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not
"brothers, and you walk like men?" (1 Cor. 3:1-3).
Suffering from clumsiness is forgetting Hebrews 5:11: 'About this we have much to say and it is difficult to...
explain, for how long you have become slow to hear.
9.9.11. Stagnation. Stagnation is simply uncontrolled clumsiness. The following is
a summary of God's overall plan with sin and the sinner. While before we were
Dead in sin, after the marvelous grace of God we must be dead to sin.
Note:
And He gave you life when you were dead in your trespasses and sins ... even while being
we who were dead in sins, He made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved)" (Eph. 2:1, 5).
What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? By no means.
For we who have died to sin, how can we still live in it? So likewise you
consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 6:1,2, 11).
Therefore, we must be dead to sin, but alive for righteousness. But many believers have
allowed Satan to twist these two things, becoming dead to righteousness and alive to sin.
In the same way, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself. For just as the body without the spirit is
dead, so faith without works is dead" (James 2:17, 26).
To suffer from stagnation is to forget Revelation 3:1:
Write to the angel of the church in Sardis: He who has the seven spirits of God, and the seven stars,
It says: I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, and you are dead" (Rev. 3:1).
9.9.12. The delay. In the judgment of the great white throne, it may be revealed that this has been used
a terrible weapon to condemn souls to hell more than any other. It has been said that many
men are in hell today because they intended to save themselves the eleven, but died at the

9.9.13. The discord. It has been correctly observed that there are many more biblical churches than have been
divided by the disposition than by the position. This means that the tragic cause of a division

One went to the witch of Endor at the hour of death, while the other turned to the Word of

For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace. What,
Well? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means. Do you not know
that if you submit to someone as slaves to obey him, you are slaves of the one whom you obey,
