Profile
I am a second-year student enrolled at University of Plymouth studying Environmental Science BSc, building a strong
background in scientific, economic, conservation and management skills relevant to the environmental sector. I have
grown up in a small town, and have always been drawn to nature, fascinated by the diverse ecosystem niches that
we find ourselves living in. My passion has led me to believe environmental conservation is the key to securing a
sustainable future for all, protecting the worlds wildlife and providing wider food security.

Archbishop Sancroft High School GCSE’s 2014 – 2019
Achieved 9 GCSE’s
Relevant Skills and experience
Critical Thinking – Through analysing and evaluating complex environmental problems and developing
effective solutions such as assessing the sustainability of new lithium mines in Cornwall. During time in
cadets, I learnt to make informed decisions under time constraints with limited resources. This can be
applied into all areas of life but specifically within the environmental sector is a vital skill to have in order to
navigate complex and often multifaceted issues where the economic, social, and environmental factors
should be accounted for.
Communication and teamwork – As a pair, I believe it is vital to be a good communicator to work effectively
as part of a team. The usefulness of being able to understand the science after data analysis is limited to how
well one can articulate the results in a way that is accessible to the target audience. Group presentations in
my degree such as researching how climate change has affected natural glacial dam bursts, using case
studies from Patagonia and Peru, have been a valuable use of time. It has allowed me to practice how I
communicate my ideas both within the group and to a broader audience such as the public.
Leadership and management - Effective leadership and management ensures that resources are utilised
effectively, timelines are met, and objectives are achieved. It also allows for the identification and mitigation
of potential risks and blockers to progress. During my time in cadets I developed my teaching and leadership
skills as I progressed through the ranks, earning more responsibility in what the younger cadets were being
taught and fresh ways of delivering the information. Whilst at high school I was also part of the senior
student leadership team which meant I worked closely amongst members of the Senior Leadership Team in
facilitating how the school ran. I also had the responsibility of overseeing a small group of students who had
the opportunity to provide clubs and activities for the school which gave me further organisational skills.
Discipline – Working to deadlines is something I have always found attainable and have used to motivate me
with less engaging work. My time spent in the rose fields taught me the value of discipline due to the work
being so repetitive and physical, maintaining a disciplined attitude was key to staying focused in turn
stopping me becoming fatigued. Being disciplined was essential in ensuring a higher success rate of their
bloom next season.

Volunteering
2023
Plymouth Environmental Action and Natural Grid
Local conservation and citizen research facilitating broad community involvement with conservation efforts such as
litter and microplastic surveys as well as species identification.
Plymouth Environmental action are a conservation volunteer group that are currently funded by “sea
changes” which is tackling marine plastic pollution. By volunteering with them I have participated in citizen
science which has taken the form of beach litter and microplastic surveys where the data collected is being
compiled over the year to see trends in litter distribution round UK coastlines. We have also been doing
marine species identification using the “inaturalist” app.
Plymouth natural grid volunteering consists of hands on conservation across Plymouth city. The range of
activities as listed on their website include “scrub clearance and control, tree planting, biodiversity surveys,
coppicing, carpentry, path maintenance and clearance, flood management, the maintenance, cleaning and
repair of reserve access, habitat creation such as wildflower meadow creation or maintenance, flood
management and proofing including building leaky woody dam structures, invasive species control, dead
hedging, supporting events.”
2015-2022
Norfolk Army Cadet Force
Joined cadets aged 13 and worked my way through the rank system to Sergeant Major through deification
and discipline. Throughout the years I participated in various fundraisers such as raising money for EACH,
supporting the Royal British Legion with the poppy appeal, as well as organising and partaking in fundraising
for a skydive expedition. This was the first of its kind for the cadet force, in which seven cadets including
myself were able to achieve their AFF A Level skydiving license.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
I volunteered at my local primary school as part of my silver and gold award, joining a go kart club that saw
selected students who were challenged as-well as highly achieving build, design, and race eco-karts as part
of a national program.
Work Experience
Early bird café September 2023 – Current
Part time barista and front of house role serving local and sustainably sourced food in an independent café.
Proud to have moved on from Costa Coffee to a business that reflects my morals more whilst still being able
to utilise my barista experience.
Costa Coffee December 2020 – September 2023
With a mixture of part-time and full-time work at costa I have been involved with all areas of the job. Not
only have I gained barista skills while providing customers with brand standards I have done so in a high
paced environment that saw £23,00 weekly incomings for the company. Costa Coffee have also provided
various online training courses from disability awareness to fraud, as well as helping me develop excellent
customer service skills which have massively improved my communication and confidence skills.
I worked with two different teams due to university and found I was able to efficiently merge with my new
team credited to the amazing team back home that advanced my coffee knowledge resulting in being a
valuable new member of staff to the new team. It is vital that the team works cohesively due to the high
demand, therefore the systematic approach combined with room for creative problem solving when faced
with challenges ensures we can swiftly maintain service and high customer satisfaction. Being open minded
has also been vital in further improving my efficiency, the way I work has been constantly evolving as-well as
the environment for example reorganising the bar so that workers have to cross over less. Now that I have
been part of the team for several years now, I have gained the respect to suggest ideas about shift roles to
ensure people are not stuck in positions they are most comfortable at but also have the opportunity to
improve on areas they may lack through my support such as coffee training.
Wharton’s Rose Field Summer Work 2022 – 2023
This unconventional job has taught me the value of patience and dedication. Patching up to 4500 rose briars
a day in the summer heat for 10-hour days as proven to myself that with discipline I can see a job through no
matter how tedious. Although the long hours I really enjoyed being outside in nature for my summers and
found the work mediative. In 2023 I was also trained in “budding” the skill of propagating a new variety of
rose onto a new briar, developing my skill set and allowing me to become more financially independent with
the possibility of self-employment in future years.
Rushall Half Moon Pub September 2017 – November 2020
The pub was my first entry into the working world. For just under the first year, I worked as a kitchen porter,
supporting the chefs and maintain a hygienic environment to work in. I believe my work ethic and
communication with employees developed here and therefore really value the time I spent with the pub. My
confidence grew and I really enjoyed becoming more valued within the team. Once slightly older I began
supporting the bar stuff and waitering till this became my permanent role. Multiple bigger events involving
local bands and organisations were held at the pub resulting in my teamwork and communication skills
furthering under a more intense environment.
