TASK 1: SAMPLE WITH FEEDBACK
“Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning and welcome to the meeting. Parents are very important components of school
life. The growth, development and progress of the school depend a lot on your kind support and
co-operation. We have convened this meeting to request you to become more actively involved in
activities taking place on the campus.

We feel that parents, with their vast experience and expertise can be of great help to us in a
number of areas. As you know we have adopted a special children’s school. We are planning a
fund raiser to collect funds for stationery and books for the students. You can help by setting up
stalls and supervising some of the activities. The reading plan initiated to spark interest in the
written word also needs some helping hands.

We also feel that parental involvement will have a positive influence on the students. It will
serve as a motivating force for them and their involvement will be more wholehearted. It will help
to boost their confidence and give them a feeling of joy that their parents are interested in their
performance. On the other hand, it will be beneficial for you all as well. Working in close
proximity with the students will make you aware of the problems the young generation faces,
how it thinks and reacts and what ways can be found to solve these issues. This will help to
bridge the generation gap and develop mutual respect and tolerance.

I can see from your expressions that many of you are interested in becoming a part of school life.
Mrs. Ayesha Nadeem, the Principle’s secretary, is in charge of working out the details. You can
contact her on the school number between 10 am and 11 am. We hope to develop a closer
association with you in the near future”.

TASK 2: SAMPLE WITH FEEDBACK

“Good morning, my fellow students! It feels great standing amongst you on this fine morning. What
makes this even more pleasant is the fact that we are gathered here to celebrate a small victory…
Our class X C recently worked on an after-school project that was a roaring success.

The magic began when we started studying a chapter on mental health in Biology. It taught us a lot
and we realized how important it was to take initiative and spread awareness amongst the junior
classes as well. Accordingly, we organized an after-school seminar on the fourteenth of March in the
school auditorium, highlighting the significance of being mentally healthy and less stressed due to
the mounting pressure of studies and the problems faced by students in a school setting.

The programme included a speech delivered by the school counselor followed by a slideshow
prepared by our classmates. Flyers were distributed and the juniors were reminded that their
mental and physical health always comes first, and that the school counselor is available at all times
to offer any kind of assistance. We ended the seminar showing a series of small videos on how to
cope appropriately with bullying and peer pressure for a better and healthier environment for all the
students.

We measure the success of this seminar by the fact that it helped the juniors understand what an
imperative role mental health plays in their lives and it also heightened our roles as mentors to help
them overcome these challenges constructively. It also gave us valuable experience for organizing
further events.

My dear peers, this activity may be the first step in addressing these issues in an organized manner,
but let me assure you this is certainly not the last. So, do yourself this favour and step forward and
be kind to yourselves and others around you. After all, we all deserve it.”

TASK 3: SAMPLE WITH FEEDBACK

“Honourable Principal Ms. Tan, esteemed teachers and fellow students, I am here today to tell you
about William, who is an excellent candidate for the Student Council.

First of all, I want to say that he cares a great deal about the school and the students. This is attested
by the fact that he is President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society in our school. This society helps
needy boys with book and stationery. Will is untiring in his efforts in helping these students. Even
though it is not his responsibility, he takes it upon himself to make sure new boys feel welcome., by
giving them informal talks about our school history and rules. As a prefect, he is a fair disciplinarian to
all and does not have favorites. I am sure we will all benefit if he is elected to the Council.

He is also an all rounder and capable in many areas. Even then he is good in studies. He came in top
place in the recent examinations and is an excellent sportsman as well. He was in the team that won
the Inter-school basketball championship last year. He is also active in school clubs and won the Public
Speaking Competition this August. Indeed, he combines many rare qualities.

Do you remember the school’s holiday dinner and dance? It was a great success, wasn’t it? He and his
fellow prefects organised the function and brought in the local rock group “Milestone Round My Neck”
to play for us.

Lastly, I want to say that you won’t find a more dedicated and committed Student Council member
than Will. Vote for Will and you know that your interests will be looked after! Thank you.”
