The Christian Messenger

Fifth Avenue Church of Christ
115 W. Fifth Ave. Lancaster, OH 43130 740-654-0626 e-mail: info@myfacc.com
This is going to be a an exciting day as we have a special time of worship which will include personal testimonies and praise for the good that God is doing through the lives of Christians here at FACC. On this day, you will have opportunity to peruse the various ministries of the church to see where you might be able to get PLUGGED-IN. Everyone needs a ministry! God requires you to serve Him in some capacity. In preparation for that day, I ask that you take time to pray for the Spirits leading in your life, as well as having read through the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25.

LaCOMEDIA TRIP: Several of our folk found it necessary to cancel their attendance but we were able to resell some tickets. Our final total was 24. It was another great dinner and entertaining show. GIANT PRINT BIBLES: In response to a number of requests, I now have, on hand, a supply of the giant print (easy to read) Bibles. They are soft cover editions of the New International Version that sell for just $12.50 each. If you are interested, see me. WEDNESDAYS: We are resuming our 10:00 am and 6:30 pm sessions this week, October 19. Our focus, for study, will be II Corinthians, chapter 5. You are invited to attend either of these informal study groups. SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: On Sunday evening, October 16, I launched a new series on The Hard Sayings of Jesus. This week, October 23, the theme will be Did Jesus Come To Bring War? based on Matthew 10:34 where He says, Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. On October 30, the theme is You Must Be Perfect, based on Jesus statement found in Matthew 5:48; Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. FINAL THOUGHT: Some minds are like concrete all mixed up and permanently set.

A Note from Brad

I hope everyone enjoyed participating in the Fair this year. It is always good to stop and enjoy the simpler life for awhile, especially when that includes greasy french fries and elephant ears. Speaking of ears, please lend me yours for a few seconds. I am really looking forward to October 29th when we have our GO FORTH weekend. We still need more of you to make a difference that day. Wont you please consider doing your part? As I challenged you Sunday, Do something! We are in need of several of you to help with our church kitchen project. It really needs a good cleaning up. If you can help, please contact Don Taylor. Thank you! In our Sunday night LIFE group we have been studying the book, Not A fan, by Kyle Idleman. Last week we had to come to grips with the message of two scriptures. John 3:16-For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever would believe in Him, would not perish but have eternal life. That verse focuses on believing. Luke 9:23-If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. That verse focuses on following. Those two things must necessarily go together. There is no believing without following. That word anyone is very significant and is all-inclusive. I know that you have to have friends or co-workers or family who still need to know that Jesus said anyone. No matter what mistakes they have made; no matter what sins they have committed. Jesus is relying on you to get the word out so that anyone can become one of his followers. Think about it! This Sunday I will begin introducing to you a very challenging sermon series for the month of November. It will cause you to trust more than you ever have. I hope to see you Sunday.
