Writing VI

The speaker tells the listener a bedtime story about how humans are made of stardust. The story explains that the atoms that form human bodies, as well as other elements like oxygen and water, were originally created in the interiors of stars. The speaker feels closer to space and the universe knowing this fact. They also feel a connection to the listener, proposing that they may have come from the same star since they are made of the same particles. The speaker wants the listener to think about the stars and their connection when apart.

“Can I tell you a bedtime story? It won’t take long, I promise.

Did you know that we’re made from stardust? I’m being serious, hear me out. I read it

yesterday. Look! If you need proof, here you are: ‘We came from the stars”. Do you

see? Okay, that doesn’t prove anything, but wait, it also says, “Not exactly us, but the

materials we are made of - our bodies, our surroundings, and our world - they are all

made out of particles of stars: carbon that forms our bodies’ organic molecules, the O2

we breathe, hydrogen, H2O and nitrogen. ‘Wait! Here is something marvellous, I’m

almost done, I swear: ‘The atoms that form us - literally the exact atoms that form us,

everything that we are and want - were born in the remote hot interior of some star and

time and the historic path brought us here’. What do you think? We’re so lucky. Now I

feel closer to the stars, and you? I feel closer to space and the universe. I also feel

closer to you. It’s like we came from different places, our families and our friends too. In

a way, we’ve just met. We also have our paths, issues, and private thoughts. We don’t

share much, but I like to think that you and I came from the same star. Maybe we’re

made of the same particles, and that’s why we found each other. I’m telling you this

because I want you to go, thinking about the stars and our lives. I’d like you to

remember us when we’re apart.

Do you think that time and the historical path brought us wherever we are now?

I’d like to make the best of our time left.”
