The gear reductions required to obtain the various speeds are provided by planetary gearsets. ‘The fluid coupling acts as @ hydraulic clutch which is used to transmit engine torque to the transmission. The use of the fluid coupling eliminates the need for a manual (mechanical) clutch and it also provides a cushioning effect of the gear changes between the engine and the transmission. ‘The main working units of the transmission are the front unit, rear unit and the reverse unit. The front and rear units both consist of an individual planetary gear reduction and means for locking up these planetary gear ains for direct drive, depending on driving require ents.
