2.2 GENERAL INFORMATION

The following advice is given to ensure optimum use of the equipment.

IMPORTANT

• The tasks must be performed in the order specified.

• A range of greases for cylinder seals and valve seals has been defined for
be in phase with their nature and the regulations according to the uses (See § 6.11.14).

MAINTENANCE NOTICE VEOX SP Mixproof valves

3 INTRODUCTION

CAUTION: Before carrying out any maintenance work, check with the supervisor that
the installation is stopped and drained (pipes empty and depressurised, pumps stopped,
CAUTION! tanks shut off or empty).

The disassembly process for mixproof valves is divided into two distinct steps.
3.1 DISASSEMBLING THE VALVE: (Extracting the isolation sub-assembly from the body
of the valve).

This operation enables access to the isolation seals (Changing the seals, see § 6.11.14
for lubrication) and the removal of the pneumatic actuator.
This is a straightforward procedure and can be performed on-site as it does not present
any particular problems.
This is the case in the majority of maintenance operations on this type of valve.
3.2 DISASSEMBLING THE PNEUMATIC (Changing the internal seals).

CAUTION: This operation must be performed using a special tool ensuring that
the necessary precautions are taken. (CAUTION: stressed spring)
CAUTION!

NOTE: After carrying out any maintenance work on DEFINOX products it is essential
that you check the correct function of the equipment concerned: tightness, pressure,
etc.
IMPORTANT

CAUTION: In the lower section of the valve, NEVER BLOCK or RESTRICT the flow
from the LEAKAGE CHAMBER.
CAUTION: Ensure that the lubricants used are compatible with elastomer seals (See
CAUTION!
§ 6.11.14).

Before starting the disassembly procedure, if the valve is fitted with a signalling unit it may
be necessary to detach the signalling system from the actuator.

4.1 DISMANTLING THE SIGNALLING BOX

4.2 BODY AND PLUG
Supply air to the main air cylinder to relieve the upper clamp collar of the compression force
from the spring.
If a signalling box is installed on the valve, use the box’s air circuit to manoeuvre the valve
into an open position.

Remove screw [85] in order to remove the sensing cam [39] or unscrew the sensor cam
[38].
Disassemble the upper clamp collar [48].
Interrupt the air supply to the actuator (the valve returns to a closed position).
Remove the isolation (pneumatic actuator) assembly [A] from the body of the VEOX SP [47].
Disassemble the lower clamp collar [48] and remove the protector [49].

Screw the protection screw [81] onto the actuator rod [1] to protect the tapped hole.

Using a plug valve wrench [77] on the lower plug side [61] and the holding wrench [79]
on the flats on the actuator rod side [1], unscrew the lower plug sub-assembly
of the pneumatic actuator [58]. (See drawing below)

Using the plug valve wrench [77] on the plug side and the flats on the breakaway piston side
[60]. (In a vice with protective clamping jaws or with an open-end wrench).

Unscrew the 2 fastening screws [41] in order to remove the lantern protection plate [40].
Unscrew the indexing screw [54].

4.6 DISASSEMBLING THE MAIN PNEUMATIC ACTUATOR
Disassemble the air pipes [13] and [14] from the upper plug supply.
Position the actuator sub-assembly [58] on the press. (See drawing below).
Ensure that the stroke of the press is adapted to dimensions [A] and [B].
Use a tube [C] to prevent damage to the upper part of the actuator lantern [58].
Press the springs to release the snap-ring [15].
Remove the snap-ring [15] from its housing using a screwdriver, then release the pressure.
Remove the sub-assembly for the lantern/rod/piston [6] [7] [8] [9], the stop [10],
the shaft/main actuator [1] [3] [5], the springs [20] and [23] from the actuator body [2].

5 REASSEMBLING THE VEOX SP VALVE
5.1 REPLACING FAULTY COMPONENTS OR SEALS ON THE PLUGS
5.1.1 CHANGING THE PFA SEAL ON THE UPPER PFA PLUG:

CAUTION: It is essential that you disassemble the lower plug before replacing the PFA
CAUTION!
seal located on the upper plug.
Isolate the damaged PFA seal using a cutter taking care not to mark the bearing surface of
the plug (protect the stainless steel surface using the edge of a steel rule or a plastic off-cut).
Place the new seal in an oven 165°C (±-3%) for 30 minutes

CAUTION: Do not exceed a maximum of 200°C. If the temperature is too low,

CAUTION! there is a risk that the seal will deform or tear during installation.
Insert the PFA [69] seal quickly from one side of the groove, then progressively
push it into its housing.

CAUTION: Be sure to position the bevelled side of the PFA seal correctly on the plugs.
(see drawing below)

5.1.2 CHANGING THE PLUG SEALS ON THE VEOX PLUGS.

CAUTION: It is essential that you disassemble the lower plug before replacing
the seals located on the upper plug.
CAUTION!
Before replacing faulty seals (see list of seals and kits at the end of the notice),
grease the seals with a suitable lubricant.
For the process seals [66] in contact with the product use a food grade silicone grease
(Paraliq 703 GTE type, see § 6.11.14).
For the dry-mounted external seals [67 and [68] of the upper plug [55].
It is essential that the seals [67] and [68] are not twisted when mounting.
Be sure to distribute the volume of the seal into the groove to provide a uniform contact
surface around its entire rim.
Remove the O-ring seal [66] as well as the ring [65]. (If a replacement is required,
see parts reference at the end of this notice)

Dry fit the seal [62] on the insert [63], and fit the lightly greased assembly between marks
[60] and [61]. Make sure it is concentrically mounted on the plug.
Tighten the assembly using the plug valve wrench [77] on the valve side [61] and the
retaining flats on the actuator rod side [60]. (preferably in a vice with protective jaws or
failing that with an open-end wrench as a last resort).
Tighten the plug [61] on the shaft [60] until a meal/metal contact is achieved.

5.1.3 REASSEMBLING THE VEOX SP SHAFT/PISTON ASSEMBLY
Remove the O-ring seals [19] and [21] (If a replacement is required, see parts reference
at the end of this notice), lubricate the seals with grease. (4025 H1 QUINPLEX type by
Lubrication Engineers, see § 6.11.14)
Remove the rings [18] and [22] (If a replacement is required, see parts reference at the
end of this notice). Ref.: [21] Assembled only on DN63 to 125.
After replacing the seals and rings, reassemble the shaft [1] in the main piston [5].
Screw the protection screw [81] onto the actuator rod [1] to protect the tapped hole.

Tighten the nut [3] using a plug valve wrench nut [78] and the holding wrench [79].
Then lock the set screw [4].

5.1.4 REASSEMBLING THE VEOX SP LANTERN ASSEMBLY
Remove the O-ring seals [11], [16], [17] and [27] (If a replacement is required, see parts
reference at the end of this notice), lubricate the seals with grease. (4025 H1 QUINPLEX
type by Lubrication Engineers, see § 6.11.14)
Remove the rings [12] and [26] (If a replacement is required, see parts reference at the
end of this notice).
After replacing the seals and rings, position the protector [A] on the thread of the clamp pin
[8].
Insert the clamp pin [8] in the lantern [9] and the breakaway piston [7].
Remove the protector [75] to tighten the nut [6] on the thread of the clamp pin [8].
Use the clamp pin guide [80] and the plug valve wrench [B] to tighten the assembly.

5.1.5 REASSEMBLING THE VEOX SP ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
Tighten the guides [76] and [74] on the shaft [1]. (See table and drawing below).
Position the spring [23] on the body [2], reassemble the shaft/piston assembly on the spring
[23], position in the spring assembly [20] and thread the lantern assembly on the guide [76].
(See drawing below).
Mount the assembly on the press to position the snap-ring correctly [15].
(For press strokes see page 11, ditto disassembly).
Reassemble the connectors [13] and [14] on the lantern [9]. (Be sure to check
the alignment of the connectors, see drawing below).

5.1.6 REFITTING THE VALVE ASSEMBLY ON THE VEOX SP BODY

- Check that the old seal [51] has been removed.
- Lubricate the interior diameter of the new seal [51]
with auxiliary silicone grease (Kluber Paraliq GTE 703 type).
- Fit the seal [51] in the lower part of the valve body.
(It must hold on its own and the entire perimeter of the upper
toric part of the seal must be visible when looking into
the body through the upper opening).
- Insert the protector [49] into which you have placed
the lubricated segment [50] (Kluber Paraliq GTE 703 type) into
its inside diameter, until it touches the seal [51].
- Place the lower clamp collar [48] around the body [47] and
the protector [49] "WITHOUT TIGHTENING" the collar (you
must still be able to rotate the guide and collar). 58
- Insert the isolating assembly [58] via the upper opening,
ensuring that no seal (old or new) has been forgotten.
- Fix the ACS casing to its related valve and connect
its pneumatic Rilsans to the actuator connectors.
- Manually operate the main actuator control solenoid valve 1 in
order to place the valve in the open position.
- Place the upper clamp collar [48] around the body [47] and
the lantern of the isolating assembly [58] and tighten
it by distributing the tightening force over the two diametrically
opposed screws (tap on the collar with a hammer),
the tightening torque of the clamp collars is 10 Nm.
- - Refit the detection cam [39] with the screw [85], or screw in
the detection cam [38].
- Manually operate the main actuator control solenoid valve 1
in order to return the valve in the closed position.
- Tighten the lower collar with the same precautions as the
upper one. (Check via the openings of the upper and lower
clamp collars that the two tightened parts have a good
metal/metal contact for the correct alignment of the guides)
- Check the strike of the upper and lower valves by manually
acting on the pulse controls for solenoid valves 2 and 3. Ensure
that the LEDs of the AS-i module light up for the desired 48
sensing position.
- Open and close the valve fully two or three times via solenoid
valve 1, checking that the sensors indicate the O and C
positions and that the valve operates smoothly in both
directions.
- Position and close the housing cover.

6.9 LANTERN-MOUNTED SENSOR ADJUSTMENT

1 Position the sensor support [70] at the very bottom of the

lantern and tighten the 2 fastening screws [71]. 71
(this operation is essential for the correct adjustment 70
of the M12 sensor).

2 Tighten the M12 sensor [72] until it comes into contact

with the face of the sensing target [54].

3 Then unscrew it by MAX half a turn.

4 Tighten the nut of the M12 sensor. M12 nut

5 Loosen the 2 fastening screws [71] and slide the sensor

support assembly towards the top of the lantern.

6 Place the connector [73]. 73

7 Lift the upper plug and hold it in the open

position.

8 Slide the sensor support assembly gradually

downward until you obtain a sensor signal and
tighten the two fastening screws [71]. 71
Lower the upper plug.
(It should lose the signal)

Raise and lower the upper plug to check the

adjustment.
