NOTES
PLASTIC EGG MEASUREMENTS
The plastic egg I used is about 2.75 inches long.
The diameter is about 1.5 inches.
SUBSTITUTE EGG
If you cannot find (or don’t wish to use) the same size egg, you can still use this pattern. If
the plastic egg you have is smaller (or larger), still follow the pattern but remove (or add)
rounds of increase. If you follow the template described in the pattern (a round of increase
followed by a round of single crochet after the first 5 or 6 rounds), your crochet shell should
match the size of most plastic eggs.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 3|Page
NOTE ON TENSION
Depending on your tension, you may need to adjust your rounds and/or stitches to match
the shape of the egg. Compare your crochet layer to the plastic egg regularly by placing it
on or inside the egg as you are working on it to make sure your work will fit.
PART 1: Top of Rocket
OUTSIDE LAYER
Start with Lizbeth 20 rose (metallic) and a 1.25 mm hook.
Join each round with a slip stitch and chain 1.

Round 14: 64 sc
Change color – steel blue (metallic)
Round 15: (7 sc, inc) x 8 – 72 sts
Round 16: 72 sc
Rounds 17 – 26: 72 sc
Leave a long tail. It needs to be long enough to make one last round of single crochet.
Weave in only the end from the magic ring and set aside.
INSIDE LAYER
This layer is made entirely with Lizbeth 20, light yellow thread and a 1.25 mm hook.
Before starting the magic ring, make sure to leave a long tail for sewing.
Follow the pattern for the outside layer but fasten off after Round 25.
Weave in the end. Leave the magic ring tail. We will need it later to sew the inside layer
top to the plastic egg.
As you can see from the picture, the metallic layer turned out to be a little bigger. This
might be because the metallic thread is stiffer than the regular Lizbeth thread.

PART 2: Bottom of Rocket
OUTSIDE LAYER
NOTE: Both layers (outside and inside) should cover only the bottom of the egg without the inside
plastic piece that is used to close the plastic egg tight. We will cut that out later.

Join each round with a slip stitch and chain 1.

Rounds 15 – 24: 72 sc
Leave a long tail. It needs to be long enough to make one last round of single crochet.

In order for the rocket ship to close like a box, we will need to create a part on the inside
that will hold the top and bottom together. We will do so by crocheting a piece using the
FLO stitches we left earlier on Rounds 21 and 22.
(RS) Start with Round 21 of the bottom inside of the egg. Insert the hook in any one stitch
of Round 21 (I keep it close to where we joined rounds when we made the inside layer of the
rocket). Use Lizbeth light yellow thread.
Crochet around for 5 to 8 rounds (depending on how tall you need it to be in order to close
the egg). Each round has 72 stitches.
Once you finish Round 8, fasten off and weave in the ends.
Now insert your hook in the FLO of Round 22 and crochet 72 sts for 8 rounds. Fasten off
and weave in the ends.

Row 5: 12 sc
Row 6: dec, 8 sc, dec – 10 sts

WINDOWS (x 2)
Start with Lizbeth 20 iridescent (metallic thread).
Join each round with a slip stitch and ch 1.
Round 1: mr, ch 1, 8 sc in the ring – 8 sts
Round 2: 8 inc – 16 sts
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 8 – 24 sts
Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 – 32 sts
Round 5: 32 sc
Change color – rose (metallic thread).
Round 6: 32 sl st
Fasten off.
PART 4: Assembly
Sewing the Windows
Sew the windows on the top outside layer of the rocket, one round below the pink part. Sew
the first window right at the back where you joined rounds.
Before finishing, stuff the window lightly.
The other window should be sewn on the
opposite side (the front).
NOTE: It is easier to sew the windows on before
assembling the rocket.

Assembling the Top of the Rocket
Turn the inside layer so the wrong side is facing outwards.
Place it inside the top part of the plastic egg. Your plastic egg should have two holes on
both ends.
Sew the crocheted layer to the plastic top using the thread from the magic ring.
When going through the crocheted layer, do not go directly across (see picture on the left)
because that will leave a long line of thread on the inside of the rocket. Instead, insert the
thread through the next stitch (see picture on the right) and then back through the hole you
just sewed it in. This way, the inside of the rocket will look clean and the stitching will be
virtually invisible.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 11 | P a g e
You will go directly across from one hole to the other when sewing through the plastic egg.
After sewing a few times, tie a knot to secure and cut the excess thread.
Insert the plastic top into the metallic crocheted layer. Single crochet for one round by
inserting the hook through the outside and inside layers of the top of the rocket (see picture
below).
Fasten off and weave in the end.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 12 | P a g e
Assembling the Bottom of the Rocket
Using an X-ACTO knife, cut off the extra plastic part of the bottom of the egg that is used
to close it securely.
The bottom of the rocket is assembled the same way as the top. Flip the inside the layer so
the wrong side is facing outwards and place it in the plastic egg. Sew the crocheted layer to
the plastic top using the thread from the magic ring (the same way you did the top).
Then place the bottom of the plastic egg inside the metallic layer and crochet the inside and
outside together. Fasten off and weave in the end.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 13 | P a g e
Cut a piece from a yogurt container (or any other plastic container). The plastic piece needs
to fit well inside the part of the INSIDE BOTTOM LAYER you crocheted earlier.
Put the plastic piece inside and crochet both sides together (WS).
You can tie a piece of thread holding the inside and outside together so the plastic is not
moving around while you are crocheting. See pictures below.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 14 | P a g e
When you close your container, it should still look like an egg.
The next few steps will make your crocheted egg look like a rocket.
Turn the bottom of the rocket upside down. Now we will crochet in the FLO of Round 14.
Insert the hook in the stitch closest to where you ended and began rounds. Using color
Rose metallic thread, chain 1 and make 1 sc on the bottom piece.
After each round, sl st and ch 1.
Round 1: 71 sc – 72 sts
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 15 | P a g e
Round 2: 72 sc
Round 3: (35 sc, inc) x 2 – 74 sts
Round 4: 74 sc
Round 5: (36 sc, inc) x 2 – 76 sts
Round 6: 76 sc
Round 7: (37 sc, inc) x 2 – 78 sts
Round 8: 78 sts
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Adding the Wings
NOTE: Metallic thread is still and holds the shape of whatever you are making well. But if you are
using just regular thread to make the wings, you may have to put a cardboard or plastic piece inside
the wings.
Fold a wing in half and sew to close. Do not cut the thread. We will need it to sew the wing
to the rocket later.
Repeat for all four wings.
Pink Mouse Boutique, 2018 16 | P a g e
Sew the wings 19 stitches apart.
The top of the wing should be sewn 4 or 5 rounds above the rose pink part of the rocket
you just made.
Make sure the tops of all four wings are laying on the same round (4 or 5 rounds above the
pink part). Once you finish, the rocket should be able to stand well on its own.
