Reflection Report

Group 1: Family Life

Eshika
I was the group head. I ensured clear communication and
workflow for the group to meet the expected criteria of the
task assigned. I, along with the rest of my group, conducted
interviews and assisted in the completion of tasks, and
organized our manner of working to be more efficient.
Conducting interviews for our main research topic is
particularly memorable for me. Once conducting the
interviews, it was to be compiled. We faced a few technical
obstacles, but all in all, due to the efforts of our entire group
we overcame them. This taught me the importance of
collaboration and has improved my ability in delegating tasks
and managing our method of working.
Our videos and write-ups about various topics were
interesting and fun to create, due to the combined efforts and
energy of all the members of our group. However, in terms
of time management, I would have spent less time on each
of the tasks and have been more efficientin handling
technical difficulties. I am very thankful for the way our
group collaborates and communicates, and for always
maintaining a productive and positive environment,
irrespective of our obstacles faced.
Communicating with the partner school has allowed me to
observe the cultural differences and similarities. They, like us,
are close to their family and cherish them. However, most of
them have a different relationship with their parents
compared to ours, their parents being more permissive and
them being able to talk back to express their viewpoint. In
most of their families there isn't a fixed hierarchy, with the
exception of Alexandra, who stated that her father was the
person in charge before her parents had parted ways
Rishaan
As the group proofreader, my task (Rishaan) was to look at
all the various interviews people had conducted with their
parents, grandparents, etc based on the general and family
questions and summarize them into a few words. Then I had
to compile them all into a document and send it to our editor
to beautify it.

My most memorable learning experience was when I figured

out how to work under pressure. Since I was on holiday
with my family I had only two days to finish all the write-
ups, so I had to optimize it and realized that taking breaks
every 5 or so interviews really helped with my pace and
stopped me from feeling burnt out fast.

I would say that the summaries I had written were great so

the final product was good and the write-ups went well, but
if I could do anything differently I would start earlier so that it
wouldn't be as stressful as it had to be and so that I would
have more time to think about the best strategy to
summarize fast, even though I had found a good one.

Our partner school has been very cooperative and I would

say that one of the few things I have learned from the school
is to loosen up a bit and not be very serious and neutral all
the time as sometimes it is okay to have fun and enjoy as
long as you don't get off track.
Mariska
My name is Mariska and I'm the group photographer. I haven't
really had the task of taking many pictures of the group
except for the bloopers in the Diwali video.

I was very humbled by how hard our editors have to work

because, at one point during which 1 out of 2 editors were
not available, I was asked by our group leader(Eshika)to step
in. Due to this, I had to learn patience and practice it to be
able to edit the video faster and better, the next time.

One major obstacle was obeying the deadlines for videos,

writeups, etc. because we wanted to focus on the quality of
the video and we, therefore, wanted to take more time to
make it look amazing rather than have it look shabby and
not have anyone understand it, but if I could change anything
I would have tried to work a little faster without
compromising the quality of the video.

We've definitely learned to be more patient as when asking

the group questions during the Zoom call there would
sometimes be a network interference, or even a language
barrier because English is their second language. All in all, I
would say our group was very cooperative especially when
it came to asking questions. The Eumind program has been
an experience like no other and I'm so grateful to be a part
of it.
Shreya
I am the group editor and was tasked with editing all the
group introductions, cultural and interview videos, and
compiling all the written reports into a single appealing
document. Upon receiving the video clips I would compile
them together along with the background track and subtitles
to make the video. I made a blank document more appealing
and upon receiving the reports from my fellow group
members compiled it into the document,
I vastly improved and honed my editing skills with the aid of
EUMIND. Editing was no easy task and took time. This taught
me to exercise patience. We often had to work with
deadlines and our group's workload was more compared to
the others since we had six people in our group. This meant I
had to work efficiently under pressure and taught me to do
the same efficiently.
Overall I feel like we have done a great job though I feel like
we spent too much time on certain tasks unnecessarily and
that we could have utilised our time better.
Our intercultural peers like us are close to their families and
love them wholeheartedly. However, some of them had
different relationships with their parents being divorced with
the exception of Feline and Annemarie. Religion also doesn't
play a major role in their life with the exception of
Annemarie as compared to ours. A majority of them didn't
have a hierarchy in their family as compared to ours. Overall,
their family life is slightly different from ours and EUMIND
was a wonderful, eye-opening experience.
Ananya
I, Ananya am the group editor.
I helped with interviewing and recording interviews in
addition to editing our videos. Our second group editor,
Shreya, and I have worked tirelessly and put in many hours
editing the group videos to ensure the best possible result.
But the many hours I've spent working with my group have
resulted in some amazing memories. The most noteworthy
were the sessions with the other group. We had a great
connection and learned a great deal about their way of life.
Making every video helped strengthen our sense of unity and
improve our communication. Nonetheless, there were issues
with mutual understanding and task delegation.I believe that
the group's output would have been more beneficial if we
had divided the work more fairly and finished it more
quickly.
By communicating with the opposite group, we were able to
recognize the cultural differences. Our school uniform is one
such instance. We were surprised to learn that they were
allowed to dress however they pleased, while it is mandatory
for Indian students to wear school uniforms. We also saw the
differences between our families. The majority of their
families consisted of only 3 - 5 members, whereas a typical
Indian family consisted of 5 - 9 members. Speaking with
them allowed us to understand various global perspectives.
Samaira
Engaging in this project as the IT head broadened my
perspective on family life. I aided in filming videos and
creating a Padlet link to streamline communication. Interning
family members provided diverse insights, enriching the
project and my understanding of the world. The highlight of
the program was undoubtedly the second group call, where
deep connections were forged with fellow students. Exploring
their diverse cultures and shared interests like dancing and
volleyball created a strong bond. Learning Dutch stood out as
a unique experience Cherishing the time spent together, our
connections deepened through Zoom and WhatsApp. I
yearned to understand their school and culture even more.
Longer and more frequent calls would have been ideal,
allowing for a more profound bonding experience. Through
this experience, I discovered my fellow students are open
and share their problems freely. They embrace their
personalities and express love for family. Interestingly, they
differ in culinary preferences, avoiding spicy foods that
contrast with our taste The overall experience has been
invaluable, teaching me to thrive under pressure, meet
deadlines efficiently, and cultivate open-mindedness. Despite
challenges, I wouldn't trade this journey for anything.
