Total marks / Total des points / Puntuación total 29
Criterion A / Critère A / Criterio A:
11
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada
The candidate makes effective use of vocabulary, including some nuanced expressions that are adequate for the
context of the ideas presented, for example, “hard to swallow”, “suffocating atmosphere”, “her priority”, “cultivate your
mind and your imagination”. Her speech displays authentic intonation and mostly accurate pronunciation, enhancing
communication at all times. Complex structures are effectively developed and minor inaccuracies in word choice,
prepositional phrases and word forms do not hinder communication.
Criterion B1 / Critère B1 / Criterio B1: 6
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada
The candidate offers an adequate, brief context, and her presentation focuses on clearly explained ideas (for example,
the tension among characters and their cultural differences). Examples and quotes from the extract are used to support
observations and details regarding the characters’ dialogue and attitudes. The personal connection she makes about
one of the characters is relevant and meaningful. She goes about her analysis in an organized and effective fashion and
is able to properly close her presentation. At all times, her focus on the extract is convincing.
Criterion B2 / Critère B2 / Criterio B2:
6
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada
In part 2, the candidate’s responses are relevant, well developed and supported by details from the extract and the rest of
the novel. In part 3, she makes use of good strategies to present her ideas in an interesting manner, trying to understand
the character’s motives (minute 8) and thus effectively engaging her listener. Her responses demonstrate she is able to
handle a variety of ideas clearly and lucidly, offering personal interpretations and opinions.

Criterion C / Critère C / Criterio C:
6
Marks awarded / Points attribués / Puntuación asignada
The candidate responds promptly at all times and demonstrates an excellent understanding of the questions posed by
the teacher. She also provides evidence of independent contributions at some point in part 2, when she connects events
in the passage to her own experience. In part 3, she uses expressions to effectively keep the conversation going: “The
first things that come to my mind when you say that are …” In this case, she acknowledges the contribution of the other
person and makes it clear she means to continue actively participating in the conversation. Even when one of the topics
discussed is relatively simple for a strong candidate such as this (minute 9), she is able to discuss it imaginatively. Other
conversational strategies she uses include her ability to indicate she has changed her mind about a response or ask for
repetition of one of the questions; both instances are perfectly valid and demonstrate mental agility.
General Commentary / Commentaire général / Comentario general:
• Effective interview, with a good balance between the teacher’s input and questions.
• Notice that although the questions about a healthy lifestyle at first might seem a bit simple for a candidate with this
level of proficiency, the teacher also has asked other questions that adequately challenge the candidate and allow
her to perform successfully.
