2 METHODOLOGY
i) Single Lightning Mast
The radius of protective zone (rx) at height (hx), for single lightning mast of height 'h' < 30m
rx = 1.5 * h* (1 - hx / (0.8 *h)) : hx < 2/3 *h
The radius of protective zone (rx) at height (hx), for single lightning mast of height 'h' > 30 m,
rx = ρ * 1.5 * h * (1 - hx / (0.8 *h)) : hx < 2/3 *h where, ρ = 1
rx = ρ * 0.75 * h * (1 - hx / h) : hx > 2/3 *h where, ρ = 5.5 / sqrt (h)

ii) Two Lightning Mast
The protective zone between two lightning masts have considerably greater dimensions
than the sum of protective zones of two single lightning masts. If two lightning masts are
located at a distance of S=7*ha*ρ, the point of ground surface which lies midway between
the two lightning mast will not be struck by lightning. In otherwords, a fictitious lightning
mast will be formed in between two lightning masts at midpoint with a height (Ho)
ho = h-S/7
The radius of protective zone (bx) at height (h0) for fictitious lightning mast
bx = 1.5 * ho * (1 - hx / (0.8 *ho)) : hx < 2/3 *ho
bx = 0.75 * ho * (1 - hx / ho) : hx > 2/3 *ho
for two lightning masts of height h > 30 m, point Ho is determined as
ho = h - S / 7ρ where, ρ = 5.5 / sqrt (h)
iii) Group of Lightning Masts
When the number of lightning mast is more than two, the internal part of the protective zone
of a number of lightning masts are not constructed. The external part of protective zone is
is determined in the same way as the protective zone of two lightning masts. An object of
hx situated inside the triangle or rectangle formed by the lightning masts will be protected
in case the diameter (D) of the circle passing through the tips of the lightning masts or
the diagonal of the rectangle at the corners of which the lightning masts are situated is not
greater than 8 times the active height (ha) of the lightning masts . i.e. h - hx
