TRAVEL AND

TOURISUM...

diversification to become a major force in the
international economy. Many developing countries have
increased their presence in the market, particularly as
travelers have expanded beyond the more traditional
destinations in order to seek out new places and
experiences.
Tourism
Discovering unexplored corners
The intent of this guide is to provide resources for those
interested in researching current tourism and travel
industry and trends, though a few historical resources
have been included for perspective. We have also tried
to include resources that provide data and information
that will help researchers develop their own market
profile. We have also covered a few specific areas that
are frequently discussed; however, this guide does not
attempt to go into all sectors of the tourism and travel
industry.
Travel and tourism is the largest service industry in India.
It provides heritage, cultural, medical, business and
sports tourism. The main objective of this sector is to
develop and promote tourism, maintain competitiveness
of India as tourist destination and improve and expand
existing tourism products to ensure employment
generation and economic growth. In this section, we
provide information about various tourist destinations,
modes of travel, accommodation and approved travel
agents.
What is the
importance of
travel in tourism?
Is travel
important in life?
It helps us to forget about our problems and
frustration. During our journey, we experience
life in different ways we explore new places ,
cultures, traditions and ways of living we
could never experience these things at
home. This is why travel is such a unique and
individual life experience.
Tourism
Tourisum is travel for pleasure, and the commercial activity
of providing and supporting such travel. The World Tourism
Organization defines tourism more generally, in terms which
go "beyond the common perception of tourism as being
limited to holiday activity only", as people "travelling to and
staying in places outside their usual environment for not more
than one consecutive year for leisure and not less than 24
hours, business and other purposes". Tourism can be
domestic (within the traveller's own country) or international,
and international tourism has both incoming and outgoing
implications on a country's balance of payments.
Tourism numbers declined as a result of a strong economic
slowdown (the late-2000s recession) between the second
half of 2008 and the end of 2009, and in consequence of
the outbreak of the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus,[3][4] but
slowly recovered until the COVID-19 pandemic put an abrupt
end to the growth. The United Nations World Tourism
Organization estimated that global international tourist
arrivals might decrease by 58% to 78% in 2020, leading to a
potential loss of US$0.9–1.2 trillion in international tourism
receipts.
