Background of The Study

This document discusses three studies related to the effects of technology use, factors affecting student academic experiences, and perceptions of leadership dynamics in group tasks. The first study examines the impacts of technology overuse on well-being and productivity. The second identifies common factors influencing student performance like attendance, resources, environment and peers. The third explores perceptions and perspectives of leadership behaviors and interactions within student groups.

STUDYING THE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY USE ON STUDENTS, WELL-BEING

AND PRODUCTIVITY AT GENERAL LUNA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL. (main point

effects of technology use on students)

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In recent years and as technology evolves, technology has impacted our lives in
many several ways. It enables us to improve our communication, it helps us gather
better information access, and it gives us flexible working experiences. But there are a
lot to consider in technology, especially the effects it is giving on the students.
According to Timothy J. Legg (2023) advancements in technology allow people to be
more connected than ever, but this may come at a price. Overuse of social media and
mobile devices have been linked to eyestrain, difficulty focusing on other tasks, and
depression.

In a study produced by Target Informatics (2023) They stated that today where
technology is taking control of everything, there is nothing wrong to say that it is
harming society as well. Idleness is one of the common negative impacts of technology
on society because everything is digital and technical in the environment and making us
less likely to do things ourselves. We all use different tech gadgets and devices to do
things instead of doing on our own and it is making us inactive that can arise many
health-related issues.

Countless studies have established that technology is a beneficial supplement to

the education system. One such study, done by Sean M. Corcoran, Ed.D, (2019)
focuses on the effects that tablet apps have on reading instruction of first-grade
students. The students using tablet apps performed better than the ones without these
apps. Thus, Corcoran’s research concludes that “the use of tablet apps during reading
instruction had a statistically significant impact on student achievement.” Technology
has a positive impact on education, and the people of the Philippines have taken notice.

An article published by The Manila Times highlights a study done by Houghton

Mifflin Harcourt in California. This study “showed that students using iPads performed
better in math compared to students using traditional textbooks.” The article goes on to
list even more convincing evidence by citing an Oklahoma State University study which
“found that 75 percent of students said use of gadgets enhanced their learning
experience.” With so many advantages, it is easy to understand why the Philippines is
looking to increase its use of technology for improving education.
THE COMMON FACTORS THAT AFFECTS THE ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE OF THE
GLNHS-SHS STUDENTS IN THEIR PERSPECTIVE: A QUALITATIVE STUDY.
(common factors that affects the academic experience)

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

According to Xiang Zheng (2022) Academic stress may be the single most
dominant stress factor that affects the mental well-being of college students. Most of
what students learn is acquired in school. However, some pupils encounter learning
difficulties which are not properly addressed by the teachers. In this study we will be
able to understand what are the common factors that affect the academic performance
of students.

In defining what is academic performance people often tend to define or consider

it as grades first basis. This includes some of the ranking of their students by their GPA,
special awards such as as valedictorian and salutatorian. However, several factors
indicate a student’s academic success. Academic performance issues are a common
problem in children referred for psychological evaluation. Even in cases where
behavioral regulation or emotional problems is the primary concern, academic issues
are often a secondary or coprimary area of difficulty. (Holdnack et al., 2019). Some of
the factors that affect academic performance of students are attendance, resources,
skills, classroom and home environment, student gender and parent educational level.

Social circle and peer influence can also affect the academic performance of
students. A study titled Academic Stress and Mental Well-Being in College Students
shows a primary findings with positive correlation between perceived academic stress
and mental well-being in United States College students, suggesting that academic
stressors, including academic expectations, workload and grading, and students'
academic self-perceptions, are equally important as psychological well-being.
PERCEPTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES: A QUALITATIVE INQUIRY INTO
LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS IN GROUPED PERFORMANCE TASKS (perceptions and
perspectives into leadership dynamics in grouped performance tasks.)

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In an article by Mckinsey & Company (2022), leadership is a set of behaviors

used to help people align their collective direction, to execute strategic plans, and to
continually renew an organization. For leaders who chase every opportunity it is said to
be that they need to keep an eye on the track that they are leading. Leaders need to be
dynamic. According to Curtis Odom (2021), dynamic leaders understand that we no
longer live in a static world.

According to Jennifer Herrity (2023), responsibilities of a team leader include

decision-making, coaching, mentoring, developing the team’s skills and managing
conflict. Learning these important team leader skills is an ongoing process that requires
regular practice and use. Leaders play a vital role in making a team performance
effective and valuable. A leader should always be a good listener and also a good
follower. Some leaders only chose to focus on only one thing at a time. Leaders know
that they must help their teams experience a sense of stability while also continuously
challenging the status quo. They must build strong relationships while also pushing
through performance.

A leader that is effective coaches his or her members on achieving goals and to
develop necessary skills that get positive results. Coaching on the other hand involves
developing team members’ good performance, offering feedback and to demonstrate
the desired process and expected work ethic. This study aims to understand and focus
on the perceptions and perspectives into leadership dynamics of students in grouped
performance tasks. The researchers wanted to know how the leaders and members
interact with each other in their grouped performance tasks.
