Kanvinde's Philosophy of Design


1. Played with space and form. His designs are slender, balanced, proportionate, neat
and well crafted.
2. The porch and staircase were given emphasis in his buildings.
3. Natural light was given utmost priority. The form of the building solved the problem
of ventilation as well as excessive heat through covered verandahs, walkways and
staircases.
4. He believed in Vernacular Architecture. He was of the opinion that values and

1. A set of vertical volumes that rise gradually- this building is visually
appealing, and unimposing. It has a large grand flight of steps on its entrance
and providing a feeling of the ancient building.
2. The skylights- which are the dominant highlight of the design are a common
repeating element in many of his works.
3. The building seems to have a simple & efficiently designed structural
system, and a functional approach in its layout.
4. The building accommodates a complex of workshops, library, lecture halls
and observator
5. An entrance concourse on the first floor leads to the multi-level display; and
terraces provide additional outdoor exhibition areas.
6. Materials Used: RCC frame, brick infill plastered in a fine
Plan stone grit finish.
