Submission

1. Submission is expected of all believers to one another and to those in authority such as spiritual leaders. Wives are specifically called to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ. 2. Submission by a wife to her husband should not be difficult when the husband shows loving leadership, just as Christ loved and sacrificed for the church. A wife must respect her husband as he loves her. 3. Older women should teach younger women to exemplify submission to their husbands through their behavior and actions, with the goal that no one would speak against the word of God.

3. Submission is not difficult when it is in response to a loving hus-
~ band's leadership.
Ephesians 5 :25-29,33 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ
loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy,
~ cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to
present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle
or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way,
~ husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who
loves his wife loves himself Mter all, no one ever hated his own
body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church. . . .
~ However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband.

~ 4. A woman should not be afraid of submission.

1 Peter 3:6 Like Sarah, who obeyedAbraham and called him her
master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not

5. Wives need to be submissive to their own husbands.
~ 1 Peter 3:5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who
put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They
were submissive to their own husbands.

6. Submission does not mean that a wife does not have input. Sarah,
the example of submission in 1 Peter 3:6, gave Abraham input

of his wife's submission.

8. It is the responsibility of older women to teach and exemplify sub-


mission to younger women.
Titus 2:3-5 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in
the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine,
but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women
to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure,
to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands,
so that no one will malign the word of God.
