SAMPLE WRITING BUSINESS PARTNER B1+
Unit 1 (Ex 3B, p.16):
Dear Greg,
Thank you for your email about the induction day next week, which I am very keen to attend.
Unfortunately, I am unable to attend on Thursday as I'm going to an important conference with the
Finance Manager and will be away from the office all day. Therefore I hope that it will be alright for me
to have the induction day on Friday. However, I may be slightly late in the morning on Friday as I have a
dentist's appointment at 8.30 a.m.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Unit 2 (Ex 3B, p.26):
Dear Ms Pannu,
Thank you so much for inviting me to the preview of the Street Art Exhibition at the NGMA on 22nd
November. As you know, modern art is a great interest of mine and this exhibition sounds fascinating.
I am writing to let you know that I would be delighted to accept your invitation to the event. Moreover, I
am very keen to hear what Karla Lansing has to say about street art and marketing.
I very much look forward to seeing you there.
Kind regards,
Ted Vesely
Unit 3 (Ex 3B, p.36):
Dear Mr Slater,
I would like to apply for the position of Digital Technology Sales Trainee as advertised on your website
and which interests me very much.
Having completed my degree in multimedia three months ago, I am now looking for an opportunity to
use my skills working for an innovative company such as MolMedia. I have spent every vacation working
in a similar company to yours. My duties included calling potential clients and explaining how we could
help them, experience which is very relevant to your vacancy.
This year my team and I have already won an award for some of our designs, which have now been
entered into an international competition. Being very competitive, we are hoping to win an award there,
too. I also represented my university at an international media conference in Barcelona last year where I
gave a presentation on new developments in digital technology.
I would very much appreciate having the opportunity of an interview to learn more about your company
and demonstrate to you how I could be of value to your company.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,

This report aims to outline problem areas within the company and details reasons and results.
Problems
Customer complaints
There has been a big increase in customer complaints over the past few months. The main problem
seems to be because customers are unable to get through to customer service by phone. Secondly, when
they manage to speak to someone, staff are very rude and are unable to explain the situation to them.
As a result many customers have cancelled their contracts with us.
Phones not working
There appears to be a big problem with some of our phones, which do not work properly. We have
investigated and found that in order to reduce costs, we had changed supplier, but some of the materials
proved to be substandard. This has resulted in the failure of two models and, to solve this, we have had
to replace many of the handsets.
Poor network service
Some customers say they are experiencing poor network service since there are not enough masts
around the country and that their phones are useless in some areas.
Unit 5 (Ex 3B, p.56):
Dear Sirs,
Re: Order number 34 B/101
On 12 November we placed an order for 1,000 units of your robot cleaning appliance, catalogue number
XYG 54. You assured us that the delivery date would be 20 November. However, the goods did not arrive
until 23 November.
When we checked the items, we discovered that they were catalogue number XYG 53 and not XYG 54 as
we had ordered. When we contacted your company, they informed us that we had ordered XYG 53 but I
attach a copy of our original order, which was correct. As this is obviously your company's mistake, we
expect you to resolve the situation immediately.
We have been customers of your company for several years now, and are surprised by this failure.
However, if you are unable to supply the correct order, we will be forced to find another supplier.
Nevertheless, we sincerely hope that this matter can be resolved to our mutual satisfaction considering
our good working relationship over the years.
We look forward to receiving your prompt response.

Cross-cultural project teams
There have been several problems recently with our cross-cultural teams. It seems that some of the
team members are not getting on with each other and this is causing serious delays and
misunderstandings.
Firstly, the most important thing to do would be to get feedback from every team member, focusing on
2
both the strengths and the weaknesses of their teams. I would then advise the company to provide
training for all project team members immediately. If possible, the company should also try to arrange
for team members to meet face-to-face so that they can get to know each other better and understand
their different cultures. If it becomes apparent that there are still problems, then one thing which could
be done is to move team members from one team to another. However, it is hoped that this will not be
necessary.
In conclusion, I would strongly recommend that you organise training for current team members and
also for anyone else who may be involved in cross-cultural working in the future.
Unit 8 (Ex 3B, p.86):
Dear Team,
This is to inform you of the decisions made at Monday's sales meeting.
Firstly, regarding the point about customer feedback on the new product range, it was agreed that all
customers will be asked to do an online survey as soon as possible. It was also thought that we could
encourage them to participate by offering some kind of incentive.
With regard to the replacement team leader for national sales, we are very happy to announce that we
decided that John Hedges should take on that role. He has been a regional team leader with us for two
years and we are sure he will do an excellent job.
The lack of staff training for new staff was also discussed and we reached an agreement about giving
more training to new team members. We agreed that we would contact the training company
immediately to arrange this.
Unfortunately, we were unable to come to an agreement on conference dates for this year, so they are
still to be confirmed. However, we agreed on two potential venues for the conference.

Answer:
Dear Ms Pfennig,
6
I had a meeting with the Sales Director this morning and we discussed the problems we are facing.
Firstly, stock levels are very low because of the fire at our factory last week. As a result, we were unable
to supply customers on time. Consequently, they are very unhappy as they have to wait for their orders.
Secondly, the GH4 product is faulty due to a design error. As a result of this we have recalled all faulty
products.
Regards,

We received our order for 1000 crates of giftware this morning, arriving three days late. In addition, two
crates were damaged and some items were broken and cannot be sold.
We tried unsuccessfully to contact you yesterday.
We have been customers for two years, but recently several problems have occurred with our orders.
If you do not respond immediately, we will be forced to review our contract with you.
We look forward to receiving a prompt response.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir,
I am writing to see if you are interested in investing in our company.
We produce and sell healthy street food. Our business has increased dramatically in the past year and
we would like to have more kiosks around the city. However, we need to find premises to prepare the
food and employ more staff. We are looking for an investment of $100,000.
We would appreciate a meeting with you to discuss our business plan.
Yours faithfully,
7. You have been asked to recommend some language training courses for your company. Write an
email to the General Manager:
• saying which languages the company needs.
• briefly saying why these languages are needed.
• suggesting three different options.
• recommending one option.
Write about 60–80 words.
Answer:
Dear Jane,
It has become obvious that staff need to speak some Chinese and Spanish because of our cross-cultural
projects. After researching, I suggest three options.
Firstly, online courses seem to be the cheapest way of learning. Secondly someone could come into our
company to teach staff, and finally people could attend full immersion courses in countries where the
languages are spoken.
I recommend that we use online courses to keep costs down and because staff can study in between
other commitments.
Regards,
