GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CELL BOOSTER
The cell charger consists of one Double Wound charger input transformer, charger control Board,
SCR/Diode Rectifier circuit, Blocking Diode, Voltage and current adjust Pots in PCB and AC
input and DC output circuit breakers.
The spare cell Charger is manufactured utilizing SCR/Diode Blocks. The DC Output voltage
regulation and over load drooping characteristics are achieved by carefully determining the
precise moment to fire the SCRs by supplying the proper gate pulses. This fimction is achieved
by charger control Board-PC 1
The Charger works on 240V AC, single phase S0Hz supply. The Charger is capable of delivering
the full rated current at the specified voltage at output terminals. This voltage is maintained for an
input voltage variation of 240V + 10% and load current variation from 10-100% at full load.
The charger charges the cells by adjusting the voltage and current to the required level by using
the potentiometers in Pot Board PC 3.
All these circuits are housed in a single cabinet of free standing steel construction . All the
meters, indications ,AC input and DC output breakers are provided on the front panel.
Termination for AC input, DC output are provided at the front Panel of the cabinet for easy
accessibility.

CELL BOOSTER THEORY
The Spare cell Charger is designed to charge the Spare cells. Voltage and current regulation is
achieved by employing a Control Circuit Board circuit. PC 1 does the function of voltage
regulation, current regulation output current limiting .All the indications and meterss are brought
on the Front Panel for voltage and current indications. Three meters mounted on the Front Panel
to indicate AC Input Voltage, charger output voltage and charger output current. For clear
understanding of system description, refer enclosed Schematic Drawing.
The Single phase input AC supply is connected through Circuit Breaker to the Charger Inut
Transformer (T 1) and control transformer (T 2). The secondary of the Transformer (T 1) is
connected to Reetfier Bridge (SCR/V1-2) through a Fuse F1, The secondary of the transformer (
T 2) is connected to the charger control circuit Board (PC 1) and Power Supply Board (PC 2),
This control card PC 1 fires charger SCRs (SCR 1 & SCR 2) slowly initially for DC soft start
and and transients at AC controls the phase angle depending upon the output voltage of the
Charger. Voltage and current can be adjusted to the required level by using the front panel
potentiometers in Pot Board PC 3. PC 4 is the Snubber Board that protect the system from surges
Input DC Output is connected to inductor LI and Capacitor C1 which in turn filters out all
Blocking Diode (V 4)
harmonies and provide DC voltage with low ripple content as specific
prevents the reverse current flow into the Charger, Shunts SH 1 provide Charger current
feedbacks respectively to PC 1 for current regulation. DC Voltmeter (P 3) measure the DC
output and DC Ammeter (P 2) measures the charger output current, AC Voltmeter (P 1) is used
to monitor AC Input Voltage.
The charger is provided with different indications for continuous monitoring of the system
operation, All these indications are provided on the front panel.
