Product Overview
TriStation 1131 Developer’s Workbench is a software application for developing, testing, and documenting
safety-critical and process-control applications that execute on Tricon™, Trident™, or Triconex™ General
Purpose (Tri-GP) controllers.
The version 4.x release includes the following products:
   • TriStation 1131 Standard
   • TriStation 1131 with CEMPLE
   • TriStation 1131 Demo Version with CEMPLE
These versions of TriStation 1131 are used to develop applications for use with any Triconex controller
(Tricon, Trident, or Tri-GP).
The version 4.8.0 and later releases also include the following products:
   • TriStation 1131 Standard for Tri-GP Systems Only
   • TriStation 1131 with CEMPLE for Tri-GP Systems Only
The Tri-GP-only versions of TriStation 1131 are used to develop applications for use only with the Tri-GP

Upgrade Information
If you are upgrading from a previous version of TriStation 1131 (including a previous version of 4.x), please
note the following:
   • Projects created in previous versions of TriStation 1131 should be backed up using the version of
TriStation 1131 they were created in, before opening the project in a later version. Projects backed
up using a later version of TriStation 1131 cannot be opened by older versions. For example, a
project backed up using version 4.3 cannot be opened in TriStation 1131 version 4.2.
   • If you have previously installed version 2.x, 3.x, or 4.x of the TriStation 1131 software, you do not
need to uninstall it before installing a later version of 4.x. However, only one version of TriStation
1131 can be open at any one time; for example, you cannot have 3.x open at the same time as 4.2.
   • If you have previously installed version 4.x of the TriStation 1131 software, you may wish to keep
both versions of the TriStation 1131 software installed on your workstation until you have finished
converting all your projects to the newer version.
However, uninstalling 4.0 after you have installed a later version (4.1.x or later) will cause the
later version to no longer work. To correct this, simply uninstall both 4.0 and the later version, and
then reinstall the later version (4.1.x or later).
   • If you installed other Triconex applications (such as SOE Recorder) after you installed TriStation
1131 version 4.0, uninstalling version 4.0 may cause other installed Triconex applications to no
longer work. To correct this, simply uninstall and then reinstall the other Triconex applications
after you uninstall TriStation 1131 version 4.0.
   • If you are upgrading to TriStation 1131 4.15.x or later from a previous version, files that were saved
to the folder C:\ProgramData\Triconex\TriStation 1131 4.x are retained in the original location.
   • The programming model for TriStation 1131 4.x is significantly different from versions prior to 4.x.
Any project created with version 2.x through 3.x can be automatically converted to version 4.x. See
the TriStation 1131 Developer’s Guide, 4.x for more information.
       — If an original program name ends with an underscore (such as TankAlarm_), converting the
project to TriStation 1131 4.x will result in multiple program instances that have two
underscores in the name (TankAlarm__1, TankAlarm__2, etc.). Because two consecutive
underscores are not allowed in program names, you must rename each of these instances to
remove the consecutive underscores before building the application.
   • When converting a project from a previous version of TriStation 1131 to 4.7.0 or later, Standard
Security will be enabled by default (for information about security settings, see the TriStation 1131
Developer’s Guide for 4.7.0 or later).
   • The updated ALARMS library (version 1.111) released with TriStation 1131 4.10.0 is significantly
different from earlier versions of the library. See Using the Updated ALARMS Library on page 14
for more information about using this upgraded library.
   • The ALARMS3 library released with TriStation 1131 4.12.0 is the updated library for process
alarms. It is required for Triconex controllers that are used with Safety View Alarm and Bypass
Management (ABM) 1.1.0 and later. See Using the ALARMS3 Library on page 14 for more
       information about this library.
      • If you are upgrading to TriStation 1131 4.16.0 or later, and your Tricon system version is 11.2.x,
you must run the TriStation Analysis Utility prior to upgrading your project file, to ensure it is not
affected by PAN #30. Once your project file is upgraded, TriStation 1131 4.16.0 will disable the
types of changes described in PAN #30 so that the PAN #30 issue can no longer occur.
If you are upgrading to TriStation 1131 4.16.0, and your Tricon system version is 11.3.0, before
performing a Download Changes operation, make sure you save your project (click File > Save
           Project) after:
                  — Making a change to the number of allocated I/O points
                  — Adding one or more I/O modules
                  — Finishing all I/O allocation changes, before creating one or more new tagnames
For more information, see PAN #30 - Possible Memory Corruption Following a Download Changes
Operation That Changes the Number of I/O Points, Peer-to-Peer Blocks, or SOE Blocks, available on the
           Global Customer Support website.
   • If the library version is earlier than those listed above, the library can only be updated if the project
is in the Download All state.
For more detailed information about updating project libraries, see the TriStation 1131 Developer’s Guide.

 Version Known Limitations
4.11.0—4.17.0 TriStation 1131 reports can no longer be exported to the tab-separated text (.ttx) format,
due to the integration of the SAP Crystal Reports 13.0 viewer in TriStation 1131.
As a workaround, export the desired report to one of the available Microsoft Excel
formats, and then use Excel to export the report to the tab-delimited text (.txt) format.
For more information about generating and exporting reports, see the TriStation 1131
                        Developer’s Guide.
4.16.0 You cannot drag-and-drop multiple tagnames from the TriStation 1131 Tagname Editor
to test steps in Triconex Safety Validator, or to a spreadsheet (.xls) or text file (.txt).
For information about a workaround procedure, please contact Global Customer
Support (see Contacting Technical Support on page 2).
For more information about methods for copying tagnames to Triconex Safety
Validator, see “Copying Tagnames from the Tagname Editor” in the TriStation 1131
Developer’s Guide and “Adding Tagnames to Steps” in the Triconex Safety Validator User’s
                        Guide.
For projects with a target system version of Tricon 11.2.x, you cannot perform a
Download Changes operation after doing any of the following:
                          • Increasing the number of allocated Peer-to-Peer Send blocks.
                          • Increasing the number of allocated input or output (I/O) points.
                          • Configuring one or more SOE blocks in the application for the first time.
These features have been disabled for Tricon 11.2.x projects in TriStation 1131 4.16.0 to
ensure that the issue described in PAN #30 will not occur. Making any of the above
changes will require you to perform a Download All operation.
For more information, see PAN #30 - Possible Memory Corruption Following a Download
Changes Operation That Changes the Number of I/O Points, Peer-to-Peer Blocks, or SOE
Blocks, available on the Global Customer Support website.
For projects with a target system version of Tricon 11.3.x, you cannot configure Tricon
CX I/O modules and non-CX I/O modules in the same system.
                          • If the Main Processor in your Main Chassis is a Model 3009, only non-CX I/O
modules can be installed and configured in your system.
                          • If the Main Processor in your Main Chassis is a Model 3009X, only CX I/O modules
can be installed and configured in your system.
Tricon CX I/O modules are identified by an ‘X’ at the end of the module’s Model
number. For example, the Model 3626X Supervised Digital Output module is a Tricon
CX I/O module. The Model 3625 Digital Output module is a non-CX I/O module.
For more information about compatible I/O modules, see the Product Release Notice for
your Tricon system version, available on the Global Customer Support website.
