Jonah chapter 1- You can’t out tough God.
1. God’s plan for a prophet 1:1-2
         1. International-
            1. Arise, Go
            2. Evangelistic-
                1. Would lead to the salvation of a pagan nation
                2. Cry against it
      2. Jonah Passed on performance 1:3
         1. BUT
            1. The rst of 2 times we see “BUT” in this chapter in reference to God being more
powerful than man (Though Jonah tries one more time)
      3. God’s powerful persistence 1:4-12
         1. The Storm vs 4
            1. A reverse uno card to play on Jonah’s uno card.
            2. Jonah tried to ee, but where can you go to hide from God? He’s everywhere. And
He knows what you’re going to do before you even do it.
            3. BUTJonah also tries to sleep it o (ignoring his circumstances)
               2. The Sortition vs 7
                  1. Means casting of lots
                  2. It was not a coincidence that the lots also fell on Jonah
               3. The sailors vs 8
                  1. Their questions made him re ect and admit his godly identity
                  2. This must have been the most embarrassing part of this story.
                  3. Like getting caught eating donuts when you’re on a diet.
      4. Jonah’s puny persistence 1:13

         4. Once again, God plays an UNO reverse card on Jonah.
         5. “OK, now what”
      5. God’s piscine problem solving 1:17
         1. This just wasn’t a random sh bumping around in the sea.
         2. God had, once again, put this sh here to catch Jonah, and give him time to re ect and
            come to God
      • Throughout this whole chapter, God has been putting the squeeze on Jonah, bit by bit, and
after several opportunities to do right, God really clamps down.
      • He never hurts Jonah.
      • He never puts Jonah in a situation where he couldn’t have turned around.
      • Jonah continued to do wrong, and God, mercifully, brought him to a place where He had no
               other option.
      • Going into the sh’s belly was the best thing that could have happened to Jonah
