How do Gen Z approach romantic relationships?
Love is always a "hot" topic at all times, the most concerned is still love between
couples, but besides that there is also love for family, love for nature, love for
country... The direction of love changes with each stage of historical development.
In the digital age, Gen Z and changes in love trends represent the clearest reflection
of reality.
1. How does Gen Z perceive love?
Gen Z (born 1995 - 2012) is a young generation in the stage of adulthood. Gen Z
has been exposed to technology since childhood, so almost every activity in life is
inseparable from technology, and so is Gen Z's love of youth.
Gen Z people look for love through online platforms such as dating apps,
Facebook, Instagram..., using online applications such as Video call, chat, email...
to maintain relationships. Therefore, geographical distance, differences in
culture/skin color... are no longer a concern
Gen Z's age of love is earlier than other generations, since middle school there
have been many couples dating in school. Although it is just youthful love and
rarely lasts until marriage, Gen Z sees it as a way to prove their attraction to their
peers.
Gen Z's age to get married is now quite late, because they want to have stable
economic conditions before getting married so they don't have to quarrel over food
and money.
2. Factors affecting Gen Z's love trends
2.1. Technology environment
Online technology platforms create environments of continuous connection
between people around the world. With today's free chat or calling applications,
even if you are in a different time zone or want to contact immediately, it can all be
completed within a minute. Therefore, the technology environment helps Gen Z
find love more easily and keep in touch more conveniently.
2.2. Love trends from developed countries
Youth love in developed countries is seen as a forecast for development in smaller
countries. Therefore, young people's same-sex love, same-sex marriage, love with
foreigners... are gradually becoming more popular in Vietnam. Society is also less
strict because this trend is being followed by famous people and gradually appears
more often so it no longer receives harsh reactions.
2.3. Cultural education of love, marriage, family
Children don't yet know what love is, but children in kindergarten now know how
to pair a teacher with a teacher at the same school. It can be seen that the culture of
love education in today's society is expressed in many more forms (such as movies,
music, news...), so when Gen Z youth are at an acceptable age, you continue to
approach and experience love sooner.
2.4. Hobby of self-expression
Gen Z wants to experience everything adults will experience sooner, so signs that
Gen Z is ahead of older generations make Gen Z feel proud. The same goes for
love, seeing your friends have lovers, you also learn and create a relationship with
someone.
2.5. Respect personal feelings
For Gen Z, love does not mean commitment or commitment. It's just a stage for
Gen Z and the object of their love to learn and realize whether we are truly
compatible or not. Therefore, Gen Z's love changes at a fairly rapid rate. They do
not want to waste time on one person, one genre of music, one "fashion" taste...
that no longer creates emotional feelings in their hearts.
Gen Z and changes in Gen Z's love trends have both positive and negative sides,
but this is an inevitable trend of the times.
