Sub: Summer and Pre-Monsoon Precautions.

Followings measures, apart from local requirements, shall be taken to minimize

effect of high temperatures on Signalling systems during the ensuing Summer.

a. Track Circuits:
• Adjustment of track circuit parameter to keep track relay pick up Ivoltage within
safe limit. .
• Corroded track lead connections to be renewed & double bondings to be ensured.
• Arresting of creep to avoid crushing of end posts of insulated joints. At least one
.rail length on either side of the insulated joint should be provided with anti-creep
devices by Engineering Deptt.
• Provision of J-clip at glued joints by Engineering Deptt.

b. Points:
• Adjustment of point rodding, adjustable crank, rod compensators for rod
operated points.
• Joint inspections with P. Way staff of points & crossing and track circuits
and compliance of deficiencies noted during joint inspections.
• Ensure Point machine cover gaskets are effective to prevent ingress of rain water.
• Ensure that Point machine is responding properly.

c. Signals:
• Adjustment of wire runs for semaphore signals.
• Ensuring provision of hood on CLS Signals.
• Ensure Signal unit back cover gaskets are effective to prevent ingress of rain water.

d. Power Supply:
• Proper maintenance of IPS and functioning of exhaust fan of IPS.
• Proper ventilation and exhaust fan in IPS and Battery rooms.
• Proper working of auto-change over arrangement of Power Supply.
• In coordination with Sr. DEEIDEE, improvement in local power supply of
State Electricity Board at identified stations having unreliable & low voltage
supply.
• Proper working of stabilisers and inverters at CLS Stations.
• Proper working of distilled water plant.
• Checking of battery & ensuring adequate distilled water in cells for maintaining
required specific gravity.
• Cleaning of Solar panels and its proper functioning.

e. DG Sets:

• Proper functioning of DG sets and availability of sufficient spare parts, where two
DG sets are provided both shall be in working condition.
• Availability of portable DG sets at strategic locations for use in emergency.
• Adequate stock of diesel oil for working of DG sets during prolonged power cuts.

f. Relay Room:

• Proper working of air conditioning equipment wherever available.

• Proper ventilation in relay room for air circulation.
• Cleaning of relay room to make it dust free.
• Visual inspection of relay wiring to ensure proper locking of connector clips.
• Cable entries to be sealed 01'
• Provision of fire alarm / fire extinguisher systems and ensuring their proper
functioning.

g. General (Electronic Signalling System / Cable / Block):

""'jt-'" ~

• Ensuring proper Earthing for all electronic signalling systems & Block circuits and
earthing of cable armour at both ends.
• Tightening of terminals used for jfnnecting cables, equipments, wiring etc.
• Ensure adequate spares of all safety and vital equipment.
• Take measures to reduce temperature inside location boxes in high temperature areas.

h. Lightning and Surge Protection System:

• Check all existing A,B,C and D type protections available for their effectiveness and
replace ineffective ones.
• Earths connected to these devic ., .:hould be less than 1 ohm.
• Earth pits to be periodical!y w .ttO;~ure low earth values.
• Type A, B, C and D tY@} . ':;. .:!\iops should be provided in Lightening prone
wtiere' sqCL
areas, especially in locatitSD incidences have occurred in the past.
