The MOM

Test

01 THE MOM TEST

1. Ask about their life NOT about
your idea
2. Ask about specifics in the past
instead of generics or opinions
about the future
3. Talk less and listen more

02 AVOID BAD
INFORMATION
1. Compliments - Look for the truth
2. Fluff (generics, hypotheticals, and
the future)
3. Ideas - Dig into the motivations
behind their requests

03 PREPARE YOUR LIST

OF 3
Always pre-plan the 3 most
important things you want to learn
from any given type of person.
Choose the 3 questions which
seem murkiest or most important
right now.

04 KEEP IT CASUAL
Learning about a customer and
their problems works better as a
quick and casual chat than a long,
formal meeting.
