Check -Match Mathieu Bich

Effect:

One Match is hidden under a card; another match is hidden under another
card. After a magic word, one match disappears from under one card, and
reappears with the other match under the other card.

Preparation:

To make that trick, you have to build some gimmicks.

You need:
- a few wood matches
- A color photocopy of a match (a scan of a match and a regular printer will work
as well as any 1:1 scale picture).
- Three bicycle blue backed cards
- a small piece of double side tape ( one inch) or, some sticky glue,

Make the gimmicks:

a) With an x-acto knife, cut one match on the THICKNESS (you

can put some “krazy glue” on the end of the match to make the
colored part stay in place during the cutting process).
CAUTION : The use of X-Acto knife is dangerous, do not hold the
match with your fingers when you cut it…

When it is done properly, you can place the two haves in between your thumb,
and it will look as one regular match.

b) For the second gimmick, you need to make a very flat

match… To get that gimmick, you simply cut the
photocopy around the match.

To make that match invisible on a card, glue it on the face of one of your blue
backed card (at the center)

Cut around the match again. You should get a flat

match that looks like a match on one side and that
have a part of bicycle back on the other side.
Note: We used one red back for explanation purposes

Place the tape on the back of one of the blue backed card the (tape is in black
on the picture)

Touch the tape many times to remove some of the stickiness…

Set-up:

Stick the « paper » match on the tape, on the back of the card. (Remember,
we used a red back for explanation purposes)

Place the cards face down on the mat, the ordinary card on the
left (long side towards you), and the gimmicked card with the
small side towards you.

Pinch the two halves of the match in between your

left thumb and index (now it looks like ONE match
ONLY)

Place the other match on the left of the “first” one (PICTURE)

You’re ready to start !

Method:

The left hand takes the regular match and places it in on the
gimmicked card ( the card on the right)
The left hands take the card on the left, flashes the face and the back and place it back face up
on the mat

Now, the left hand lifts the card, and the right hand drops the two halves of the
gimmicked match as one match behind the card.. The two halves must look on
the mat as two matches.

The left fingers release the card which falls face up on the two halves.

The right hand takes the ordinary match on the card,

and the left hand flips this card face up. This card is
still lengthwise.

The left hand takes the mat, and lifts the part close to the magician (about 2-3 inches)

.The right hand pretends to put the match under the mat, but when the hand is close to the edge
of the table, you lap the regular match without stopping the action…

Say some magic words, and explain that the match came back under the card thru the mat!

Now, your are going to show the paper match as if it was a real one!

Place your Left hand on the back of the gimmicked card, thumb on the
edge close to you, fingers on the top half

The thumb lift the edge, that gives you access to the paper match..

The right finger squeeze the match on the mat, and the left hand unstuck the
card to show the match on the mat (let the match on the table, if you take it in
your hands the gimmick will be obvious!)….

The left hand places back the card (face up) on the
match.
You are going to mime the action of taking the match and placing it under the other card.

When you fingers touch the back of the card pretending to take the
match, push slightly on the back to make the match stick to the tape….

Pretend to place the invisible match under the other card

You can now show both side of the two of clubs to reveal
that the match has gone. And show that the match as join
the other one. (You see two halves of a match)

Note:

1 - Do not use photo paper

2 - To drop the two haves of the match under the card, and put them in the right position for the
final revelation, try to squeeze hardly on the halves. When you will open your thumb and index
finger, the two halves will stick to your fingers and you will fall face up.
